I had this idea when I was in bed last night. I was thinking that I
always disliked the fact that in most RPGs in the end you're forced to
use a certain set of armor (Glass and Deadric
) while in most books/movies the heroes often use a lot of common
armor. I mean look at Aragorn from LotR, Druss from the Chronicles of
the Drenai etc.
So what? Well I though, it might be cool if we make several versions of
certain types of armor, like a serie. That trough most/all of your
levelling you can have a certain look. For example a set of "ranger"
armor, the cheap version is a shirt with a cloak and hood and a pair of
boots and bracers, the better versions for higher levels will add a
leather vest, which becomes a cuirass, whcih will at the end be
enforced with metal burl. So in the end the hiugh level set of ranger
armor has some ornate leather cuirass, A set of enforced leather pants,
some very nice boots and a pair of light metal gauntlets.
That was just an example, but I think I made myself clear, so what do
you think? The aim for this is that even as a lvl 30 I can still look
like a ranger etc.

Do you mean it just magicly upgrades or you go to a certain person to
get it upgraded, if so that sounds like a pretty good idea.

Not neccesarily upgrde, a new set of armor with a familiar look will
work too, but I indeed like to have some armorers, or PC with master
Armorer beeing able to upgrade it.

I've been thinking if the player can craft adn upgrade itself. I'm not
sure. Qazaaq is a scripter and he said that will be somwhere around
hard to impossible. Basically with each upgrade the upgraded item is
replaced by a better one and with OBSE we also transfer any
enchantment. (yes that indeed does reset the hotkey you assignent the
item to) Such a script can easily be bound to a line in conversation,
not sure with crafting it yourself, perhaps with a pop-up screen. But
then, how does the player gets all the materials and tools?
I think we need to give this some thought.
This concept is really focussed on more roleplay for OB

I was thinking of something similar. In the DLCs there are Masterforge,
Fine, etc... versions of armour. Character Generation featured Rough
Leather and Rusty Iron.

Yep, I don't like it always though, sure you can get rusted, poor,
(normal), fine and perfect sets of weapons, but don't start with more,
I mean pure...
No I wanted this to be more visually as well, not just a name. Increase
the level of your ranger cuirass will add some mails etc. But there's a
non-core topic about this already
Lets continue there.
