The Nastiest Fungus' - jelly fungus, slime molds |
|
( Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this on your forum. I
previously posted this on the DUNE project's forum as flora ideas for
moist underground caverns and the jungle area, but thought it'd fit
well with you guys as well. Forgive me if these ideas already exist
here in some form, but I thought these specimens were neat and fit your
mod theme, too. )
THE NASTIEST FUNGUS'
Jelly Fungi (see bottom of this link for names on more jelly fungus species, site has pics): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jelly_fungus
-rubbery and gelatinous in texture,
-become hard and shriveled; when exposed to water, they return to their original form
-A number of the jelly fungi can be eaten raw; poisonous jelly fungi are rare [but usually taste like dirt]
-Snow Fungus (Tremella fuciformis) is edible highly sought after
-off-white in color and very translucent
-tasteless, but used in desserts for jelly-like texture [like Jello] [one dessert called ?luk mei?]
-names include ?Silver Ear,? ?White Wood Ear,? ?White Tree Jellyfish?
- Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_fungus
-Yellow Brain Fungus (Tremella mesenterica) (also named golden jelly fungus and witch's butter)
-this one looks real nasty, likes brains?
Site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremella_mesenterica
Slime molds: (a fungus that has outer crust, but inside is ooze, and some can move too!! Some eaten?*barf*...): Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slime_mold
Puffball mushroom: ?puffing? a cloud of mushrooms into the air:
Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vessciaesp.jpg
Earth Stars mushrooms: shoot ?cannonball globs of black spores? (I think the glob is like mucous consistency): Website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geastraceae
Off-Topic Highlight - Amanita muscaria: (yes, the mushroom in Oblivion really exists):

Yo OblivionMon! Didn't you say somewhere on DUNE that you were East Coast USA?? Cause I am too.
Mormacil: you can check out some of my other posts on DUNE
official forum if you want; not all of it deals with dry & arid
stuff. I have a bioluminescence post also, among others. I would post
appropriate ones here also, but its easier just to visit the "Ideas
Forum". Website: http://z11.invisionfree.com/Dusaar/index.php?act=SC&c=1
I just hope DUNE and Valenwood don't end up with too many similar
flora, like the same jelly shroom..hehehe. I dunno, maybe blame it on
convergent evolution?? |
