In the South I see the Green Pact having less of an impact on living.
Cliffs can house natural caves which can be used for living. Same goes
for the old and usually abondened Altmeri structures in the south west.
If you go more away from the cliffs you get driftwood to build from.
Not to mention Redguards and Nords who build their own houses either of
stones cut from the cliffs or from trees in the jungle.
Higher up north deep into Valenwood I imaging the more magic orientated
clan(s) to use more of a magicbased grow technique while others less
magic involved will use more like large animalshells.
In the more hilllike areas with larger wildlife I imaging the Bosmer to use tents and lots of bones.

Hey guys, thought I'd post some interesting info for ya, related to
being Green Pact friendly, and as an add on for "what do we get alcohol
drinks from?", and possibly more, that I saw in another thread
here...somewhere.
Someone mentioned mead as friendly alcohol, since made by bee honey,
but there are other ways to get sugar without killing, hurting trees:
Honeypot Ants - they store "honey" in their rear ends, and the "storage
ants" stay in a storage facility clinging from the ceiling (it's their
lifelong job, they're so bloated they can't move anyway, lol), while
other moving ants can "milk" them for food when they're hungry. The
storage ants are periodically fed more "honey" in bulk, so they don't
run out. It was estimated that 1000 ants produced 1 pound of this
"honey", and yes, people use them to make alcohol and as sweet snacks.
Plant Louse - they suck on plant juices all day, rooted to one spot.
They produce "honeydew" which they feed to ants in exchange for
protection the ants offer. An ant caresses the louse, the louse exudes
the dew from its rear, and the ants eats. They produce the dew
regardless of whether ants are around or not, since they would use that
same honeydew for their own food reserves.
All that info found here: http://members.aol.com/dinarda/ant/forage.htm
(Look under "HoneyPot Ants" & "Breeders" title sections)
Also, trees can be be tapped without being killed for sugary saps, like
Maple trees and Palm trees (as in Coconut palms, Arenga palms, Kitul
palms, etc). If not done by the bosmer, then by trained insects/animals
maybe.
See here for tree sugar saps: http://www.neerasupercleanse.com/pages/madal_bal.asp
Lastly, as far as the Bosmer not utilizing living plant parts because
of pact to not hurt trees, you might find this interesting: fruiting
plants produce fruit for a very good reason, and it's not to feed the
seed within - plants actually form fruit around the seed so that
creatures are attracted to and eat the fruit, in hopes that the seed is
dispursed in another area. The seed itself has it's own food supply
within its husk. Think of the fruit as a painless, expendable part of
the tree/plant, like hair or fingernails are to us humans. They mean
for it to be discarded, it serves no other purpose for the fruiting
plant. Yes it's part of the plant, but once the fruit's on the ground
or turns ripe on the stem, it's ready to go. I think this info would
come in handy for future alchemy/etc ideas and incorporation. Fruit
juice makes nice alcohol too,
. I know harvesting fruit seems totally against Bosmer style, but if
they did not keep the seed and maybe planted the seed to help the
mother plant and show respect, maybe it'd be ok. |

Very weird stuff haha, I cant help thinking of Dark Crystal.
Could these insects be in mines, a la morrowind's kwarma caves?

The immobile storage ants that hang from ceilings - they're so bloated,
I don't see them fighting, even in real life. They have mobile,
fighting guard ants that would keep watch over them, though, and the
rest of the colony. I'd say either kill or squeeze the ant to get the
honey.
I like the idea a kwarma-esque cave for the ants, sounds appropriate.

I vote for squeeze. Killing doesn't make much sense. You'd get splattered with insect gore ^^
Also, you can squeeze them more than once to get more honey out of them. For aaaaaaall their life .. !!!! *dammdammdaaaaaaamm*
