There is a tree city in FF9 with the name of cleyra. This city is located in a large tree. You get my point
here is youtube video I could find: http://images.google.be/imgres?imgurl=ht...l%3Dnl%26sa%3DG
You should only look when there are no battles.
http://images.google.be/imgres?imgurl=ht...l%3Dnl%26sa%3DG
look at aprox. 1:00 a nice overview of the tree.

look from 1:30 a view of the city

- Green Pact - do not read all about it unless you want nightmares

- what is there is inspiring, but we would have to hold off on wood/metal structure until Green Construction has really been sorted.

It's mainly battles. I asked to look at the enviroment when there are no battles. I'm sorry for it's not a very good reference.
The second and the third one is a wrong link, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for your inconvenience, but it seems that I can't post the good link, although I copy it.

Is this kind of what we're looking for in Falinesti, guys? But perhaps more horizontal-ness in the branches.

Eek 1 I don't think it's skinny. Remember, only half a mile wide. Imagine the player as a tiny dot in the middle of that.

I think it looks good. Its quite a lot how I pictured it just with buildings out of woven branches.

The only guy I know who ever got banned from here started that process of by lifting another game's graphics, and then compounded it by denying what he had done. Not suggestin you guys intend that, but ...

Also that is fine for another, smaller kind of tree - but it aint 1/2 a mile high with a trunk that skinny.

Look at the way skyscrapers are built. they use special construction methods and have to deal with wind forces etc too. By comparison a tree is a bloody sail. Adding to that the sheer mass and with Falinesti the weight of the City too ... you've had time to think about these things Flesh, whereas for JAA this is a new adventure.

It's an interesting find, and we will no doubt have other stuff that is comparable though unique in its own way.

The only way we can get in trouble like that is by actually taking the model file, and importing it into oblivion. No one here can, or wants to do that, just inspiration is all =)

Grumpy raggidman pulls out some more hair and beard ...

We all want wonderful, normal, familiar treeishness ... but I have been realising that will not work here for the Graht Oaks. We have to get back to basics and find some new solutions from geometry and physics, then we can graft treeishness onto that.

Sometimes I fell happy that I don't live in the Netherlands.
More on topic: that tree is also tall. I guess 200 à 300m tall, almost as high as the eiffel tower. The player has to climb in the trunk to reach the top. By the way, this game is built only for the playstation 1 version, so don't judge the graphics too hard.

Even with a small 200m tall tree that does not and never did walk the puir wee thingy is like tae be fell on it's skinny little ass the first time a small breeze gets up - because the Canopy will act like a sail! In addition to the the load-bearing factors.

Roll Eyes

pretty obvious eh?

Why do you think trees do not grow that tall in RL?

Are you looking at the same picture as the rest of us, raggidman? I see this thing as a mountain of wood with a crown of branches (the main trunk before the branching is almost as wide as it is tall).

Now I remember seeing somewhere in this forum that the districts for Falinesti were planned to start at about halfway up the tree, where the branches begin. If this thing is a mile tall by half a mile in diameter, starting halfway up with the branches/districts would mean a trunk that is as wide as it is tall (half a mile by half a mile) before the branches. Is this not, in fact, what the picture portrays, but without the branches and whatnot extending another whole half a mile?

Plus, who's saying that Yffre didn't make the Graht Oaks an extremely sturdy specimen of wood?

STOP THE PRESSES. THE LOWEST BRANCH DESCRIBED IN DitF IS ONLY 200FT UP!

You are correct about the strength needed. Consider mass + movement = heat, but how hot? Does Falinesti have asbestos underpants? Or a built in fridge?

There is a lot more to be added to that. Even so I stand by my assertion that any ordinary tree structure (as I see the one in the pic here appears to be comparatively) will not be enough.

Somewhere in this forum - w/out source? ... will check Ch2
