It was brought up somewhere that the maps concerning Valenwood are very unclear, and often conflicting, especially concerning the Xylo river, and not always in tandem with Dance in Fire.

I went on TIL and gathered every map I could find with Valenwood in it, that had some information on the city locations and rivers/bodies of water. They were mostly maps of Tamriel itself, and made by fans from official sources like Pocket Guide to the Empire. I've gathered three of the best I could find and am currently overlaying them to see what conflicts exist, and seeing if I can make a combined map from that.

One interesting thing I have so far noted is that in most maps there are FOUR islands to the south of Valenwood, not three. The map made for the Bosmer for Oblivion that has three is the only triple island map I could find of any note. Oddly... Arena's map has four islands as well, not three. The redguard map is useless as it doesn't even show islands around Valenwood.

It raises the question; three islands, or four? Did the fourth sink into the sea between Arena and Oblivion? Maybe we should at least hint to the past existence of a fourth island, if we follow the three-isle Oblivion map.

Okay, scratch that other part. I can't make a decent looking map to save my life, and trying to make one from all the existing conflicting maps is way over my head on the task difficulty scale; I ain't got the time for it. Or patience.

I found my old Valenwood map folder with all the sources I used (my valenwood map dates back to june 07).

Of these, only the first, and the last 2 are official. The 3rd and 4th were made by the same guy (ArthmodeusD), the 4th one being the more updated version.

I based mine on a mix of all of them I guess, with the coastline mainly based on the latest map at the bottom.

As for the Xylo river, I guess on my map I based that on ArthmodeusD's latest map, seperating the border between Valenwood and Elsweyr. I'm not sure if this is lore or what, but I thought it fit. As for the 4 islands, those were on the old maps, the latest only show 3 which is best to assume more up to date and official.

That one is from the (extended) official Redguard map. Too bad you can't really read any of it though.
