I might have a full computer this weekend |
|
The components for 3 of the parts have been shipped. The site said by
5/12. So I may have the new machine up sooner. Let us hope so!
Edit: The speakers came in, so 5 to go !

Motherboard and Processor (Athlon X2 4800), 2 GB Memory, ATI X1600 512
MB Video Card, Win64 Software. Should be a lot of work but since I've
built a number of machines before it can't be to bad to get it all
fixed up

The funny thing is that I just read that the the ATI Radeon X1800 has
reached the end of its life cycle. What also is amusing is that many of
the machines I have looked at has more X1600 than X1800 cards. I know
that most of you know as much as I do but why is this so?

I think it has to do with the price/quality ratio.
Card, MHz (chip), Pixel Pipelines, Vertex-shader , Price
ASUS X1600XT, 590, 12, 5, USD 210
Allin Wonder X1800XL, 500, 16, 8, USD 570
Asus EAX 1900XT, 625, 48, 16, USD 625
The first two are 256 Mb GDDR3. The X1900 has 512 Mb GDDR3.
Price indication in the Netherlands.
If you have to choose (budget wise) the X1600 is the best compared to the price (of the X1800).
The X1900 is the best compared to the price of the X1800.
Also the X1900 outruns the X1800 by miles.

The only problem with the X1600's is... 128-bit memory interface.

Everything is together. I still have to get the HD card so I can begin.
You have all been very patient since I've lost the main machine. I do thank you for that.
When I have the machine going I am going to release the landrun and
also get a new version of Morrowiind: Blacklight up for all to d/l

Hi Rodan,
Everything ok ? I hope you have all the parts together (HD card as the last one), as I am eager, to start modding again.

I apologize. Just got the new medicine yesterday (and it seems to be giving a good effect
) and am now getting the speakers and monitor reconnected. The next
step is turning on for the first time (always give a little prayer to
make sure I didn't get anything wrong
).

Good news! It turned out without problems. Got to switch the keyboard
and mouse (wouldn't recognize the Wireless, lucky I have others that
use a cord). The next step, working on the BIOS before installing
Windows.
With my schedule this weekend I'll probably start installing Morrowind
and Oblivion on Monday (lots of drivers and apps take priority first
).

Now some bad news, the landrun file was lost also all of my Morrowind
files. But I'll start a new landrun as soon as possilbe (I wrote down
all the coordinates needed so it shouldn't take long).
Sandor, I've lost a lot of the file attachments you've sent me. So when
I get everything back up, send me the tower files and the other
interiors you've done for me since 1-3e. I'll get as much fixed up
afterwards.
I had a feeling that this might happen so I'm taking out that HD. So
for now I'll have 3 120GB drives but since I like this SATA2 format the
next one will be larger.

I sent you, the file on May 6th, I'll do it again.
As I recall your laptop was not so friendly towards incoming E-mail
.
I sent it by E-mail to the sisna adress or should I use the comcast one ?
It's bad news al along
. I hope it ends here and now.

The comcast address. I'm finally going to cancel the sisna one.
Edit: The good thing is that I have a huge amount of data backed up.
Also with the Blacklight files on the server I can d/l them quickly.
The new one is great, with a 1GB Lan connection downloading is 6x
faster.

A little bit of a mystery. On the older machine I had a 30GB on the C:
drive and 3 120GB drives. I was wondering why 1 drive was 30GB
afterwards (that was the one that failed) and found out that I'm
missing one 120GB drive. So I'm using the H: drive for Windows (put it
as a Primary slave drive) and the other drive (which was the F: drive
which had all the Morrowind and Oblivion data, don't ask I thought it
was erased).
If you are wondering why, I had someone work on the computer because I
was unable to (Epilepsy - was shaking so much I couldn't even put a
wire or card in place, it got really serious after the March accident).
When I was able to I ripped the whole thing apart and rebuilt it from
the start.
So to sound Superheroic, the old Rodan is returning to normal. It'll be
a few more days before the medicine gets me fully functional but at
least I'm no longer shaking and am able to properly type on a computer.
I'm also going to learn how to model for Oblivion. Hopefully, I'll have
a model or two to give to the team

I decided to replace the 3 drives with a new 300GB one. It will be 1
120GB drive (as the C: drive) and 1 300GB drive (probably as the F:
drive). I still have to install the video and sound drivers but it is
working.

It's kind of funny what you back up. I'm finding a lot of the files
from TR which I thought were long lost. So if anyone needs one of the
files from Necrom (which I've found again). I haven't found the Dres
meshes yet but I think they are on one of these disks.

DVD's would be a good way to go but I've been archiving files on CD for
8 years. I now have a DVD writer so I may be able to get rid of 3/4 of
the CD's I have.
