City of Black Light v.1-1 |
|
The new version is available at my website (hit the www below and go to
Morrowind, Hosted Mods). There should be absolutely no conflict between
my city and the new Silgrad build.
Changes so far (from v.1):
Redoran section destroyed and a new imperial, common area at (-21, 12) is being built (WIP)
Redoran plantation destroyed NE of Cormaris View (new plantation WIP)
Changed statue at (-19, 12) to Golden Dragon (if it doesn't appear please tell me)
Changed building at (-21, 11) to new structure (also WIP).
Please use it as an evaluation and I will set up a thread for comments
(what can be changed, what can be improved, etc. ). Please don't be
afraid to be blunt, the sooner I get feedback the sooner more interiors
can be claimed
My web address is www.q-pages.com

I'm checking it out now, and have some quick notes. You mention here
that it's a new version, but the one I see on your site says it was
last changed in 2003. Also the text next to the download says the
version is "Pre-Beta 1.5" while the readme says "This is The City of
Black Light, version beta 1.2". So I was a bit confused if I had the
right version or not, but I assumed I do since I didn't see another
one. When I checked in the CS later it did say that the esp was
recently modified, so now I'm sure I have the right one.
I would like to offer some humble notes.
1. It struck me that the wall in the attached screenshot would look
really nice if you added some ivy and other details here and there.
2. I like the layout of the city, but looking at it in the editor I got
a feeling that it was empty and a bit lifeless. One way to liven it up
could be to add some NPCs here and there that wander around, and
perhaps have interesting things to say to the player. You could also
add some more city-clutter here and there, like crates and urns,
signposts, random junk, lights and such. When I saw the area occupied
by the three trees I though, here would be a good spot for a
mini-plantation (vegetables) or maybe a park?
3. The seabed might look more varied if you added some "in_cave_plant"
(static) and "kollop" (container). The first one looks better if the
top is above water though. There's also an animated seaweed in Silgrad
Tower you could check out, it's really cool but it's murder on
bandwidth so might not work. I personally think kelp look better in
patches then as forests, but that might just be my taste. But for
variety you might consider adding more rock piles?
4. Cormaris View looks really cool and inventive
Lively and interesting. I noticed some grass levitating in the park, shown in attachment #4.
5. There's an empty tomb exterior in "Northern Coast Region -24, 8" and
the only way to get to it would be by levitating - which would reveal
the void. But perhaps it's intentional and meant to line up with
another TR plugin? Still, if it's empty, maybe it'd be a good idea to
nix it?
6. The guard "mys_BL_DarkGuard2" has a script that's already in the game. It's called plainly "nolore".
All in all, a sterling piece of work! I hope you get the open claims filled

I'm attaching screenshots of two spots I found where the land textures join badly.
Certain exterior areas could use a bit more detailing. If you want you
could post that as a permament claim (we have), as I'm sure there are
plenty of modders who love detailing landscapes.
But all in all I'd be proud to see Silgrad Tower and Black Light / Blacklight side by side

Thanks Razorwing, the feedback helps! I'm also going to try some
portucullis at the gate area to see if it makes it more realistic. I'll
be adding a lot more NPC's later but putting up more urns, benches
should be no problem. Like the idea for the park where you had the
screenshot at. I'll get to the other fixes as well
Arcadea, I'm using all the original interiors except for the Redoran
ones so I'll have to build a new library interior. I was never happy
using the Redoran style there so the new common buildings should blend
in better.
Does anyone know where I can find a good fountain object to use that
will fit into the city? Also if anyone knows if some hedge fencing was
ever created as well.

Excellent.
Greybeard has a fence set I think, I talked to him about it recently. I
don't think he released it publicly so you'd need to email him about it
at spreemans@hotmail.com if you want to check it out. I think it's part of his great "Flora additions" pack.
The Inwah (http://theinwah.silgrad.com/)
has a Bird Bath model which could function as a decorative item in a
park. It looks very nice, I think. I'm sure there are other fountains
out there too, I just remembered his bird bath off the top of my head.
Click on the "WIP's" link and scroll to the bottom of the page to find
them.
