When I remember correctly he has them from Arena ... :hmm: ... am I right, Rodan?
I think this compendium is more than helpful and I'm glad you decided you undertook the task and listed them here. Thanks
Greeting

I actually took the time to visit each city in the game and list it.
Missing 3 files though, Valenwood, Hammerfell, and Summerset Isle.

So these are bonafied titles taken from TES I: Arena? That's awesome, I bet you spent a lot of time compiling it
We should definitely use the names in this list, I think (but not
restrict ourselves to only using them, I'm sure there'll be room for
more). Is there any other information in Arena which could be used for
our parts of Morrowind next time around, you think? Does it show the
layout of Kogo-Tel and other places for instance, or mention NPC names
in our towns? It'd be really cool to tie in with Arena when we can, I
think.
And it intrigues me that Kogo-Tel is on your list. Zalzidrax said
Tamriel Rebuilt made up the name to differentiate between us and them,
but if the town was called Kogo-Tel in TES I: Arena his theory was
wrong. And if so, that would give a bit more substance to my idea that
Dunmer could call the town Kogo-Tel and outlanders call it Silgrad
Tower.

The Kogo-Tel listing is Silgrad Tower. Since I just cut/paste it from
the TR forums I didn't see that a few changes were made. (changed it)
A lot of the cities were just walled in with a huge amount of
buildings. The Mage's Guild's there were very basic and was the only
guild in the game (you could not join it either in Arena). But for the
original game, it had lots of statues, garden mazes, fountains, canals
and since most of the buildings were locked, breaking into one of them
mostly led to encounters with guards, rogues or monsters.
Edit 2006.01.26 11:22 C.E.T.: I'll have the building names soon
for Vvardenfell. When I sign up for the new server I'll be able to
upload the pictures from the other computer and put in the old HD's
that give me access to my game at Arena.

Rodan:
You mention both that the names are from Arena, and that you
copy-pasted it from the TR forums. I'm curious which, if any, of the
town names are internal to Tamriel Rebuilt and which are bonafied Arena
names?
Because I had the assumption that Karthor Dale in particular was a name TR had come up with, since it isn't on Bethesda's concept map for TES3
- but I don't know if it was in Arena or not, maybe it was? There are
other town names in your excellent list I don't recognize either, but
if they are from Arena as well then I think we have to consider them to
exist in our vision of Morrowind whether on the old concept map or not.
Oh, and I'm doing a bit of planning regarding Reich Parkeep at the
moment and your listing will definitely be used for store- and tavern
names, thanks!

Actually, all the names are part of Arena. What I did was start a new
game in Arena and visited each area. It was a lot of tedious work, I
had to type each name into my laptop and then use the files to paste
into each posting. I did check up on the map for Morrowind and the
names are correct (it was only Silgrad that they changed). I have the
file for the last three villages on Vvardenfell but the laptop is
acting up again (bad HD and battery) so I may have to go there again
and write it down so I can post it here.

Ok, perfect, thanks for cooberating that! I'll check out the TR map for
locations and add the missing official Arena towns to the 3d overview
map.
I bet it took you forever to compile those lists so the least the rest of us can do is use them I think.

It is kind of funny that I've looked over the list again for Morrowind
and didn't list which was a village, town, or city. Or that it could
have been erased. I'll have to look at Arena again and get the info.

How much time has passed between Arena and Oblivion? If too much time
has, we should assume that some of the personally owned stores would
have been sold and changed names...

well, the emporer who dies in oblivion is the same emporer from
arena... and even if more time had passed, I say we could still put
them in there as a tribute
also, great job rodan!
theres some good stuff there that we can reuse

I do find it interesting that Bethseda used none of those Vvardenfell
names either those of the cities or those of the interior locations in
Morrowind. I mean they had Vivec and they renamed Dagoth Ur as Red
Mountain, but nothing else carried over. Strange. |

Bethesda changed a lot from Arena to Morrowind. If any of the new towns
is expanded for Vvardenfell maybe some of the old names can be used
again.
