Yup, Deus added it from a mod on the net. I haven't tried it myself but
it's supposed to be a real live chess set you can actually play on.
From what I remember Deus proclaimed the creator a "mathematical
genius".

There is a Tavern in London called the Troubador where people play
chess and make music (so I have heard) and in Hampstead in the '70s
there used to be a vedgimitatering restaurant called Cyrano's where
chess, music (a piano on both floors and guitars eveywhere) were the
order of the day in between coffees. Great times.

I'll have to look it up. 
I've gotten a number of permissions (blast this eyesight) for some mods but I've always forgotten about the chess mod.

I now remember one mod I was allowed to transfer. It was called the
'love mod' but the version I had destroyed some dialogue that I never
got around to fixing it. Also I had some concerns about bringing an R
or X rated mod into the city.

Don't overdo it with the eyes. Better to take it easy now and regain
perfect sight gradually than to overdo it and risk damaging your eyes
permanently - we want you at your best.
Get some extra rest, eat more, take the cat for walkies and enjoy a
break - you've earned it. Then when you are really fed up do a tiny bit
of modding to see how you feel...and build up gradually if it feels
good.
I had a virtually immobilised arm for nearly a year because I was
trying to exercise too hard. Then I decided to back off for a few days,
tried just a tiny bit of exercise each day for a fortnight and was
almost back to normal.
So spoil yourself!

The chess mod is a scripting wonder you should realy try out. It's in
the "Tired Silt Strider", that is the tavern in the Velothi building at
the Silt Strider station.

wait a second how did we go from a casino to chess? 
well anyway, yes, the mod has excellent scripting. even after the "scripting for dummies"
I still am terrible at it. guess it's just not my thing...

Both casinos & chess = games...? So the one might provide some ideas as to how to go about designing the other?
...and worry not about not being able to do everything RtS, just enjoy
the things you are happy with, like smacking Ordinators over the head
with a Daedric Dae-Katana! 
and designing Daedric Shrines not least!

definitely one of the districts for the new mod will have hotels,
casinos, and some risque areas. Possibly an Arena as well.
