at high altitudes on alpine and sub-alpine forage.
What are we going to do about this? Are we to treat it as one of the
PGE1's many errors and exaggerations, or could we do something with
this? |
Well, I can tell you that it'd be bloody hard to implement.

Too true.
I know very little about modeling but even I can see that.
But at the very least we need an excuse for why there aren't any left...

You could use a giant sheep as a base, stretch it, then pull the fur down where it just looks like a giant fuzzy caterpillar.

Still though...
Something like that might be worth a try. We can always say that the
"centipede" part is an Imperial innaccuracy and in reality it's some
kind of yak or other high-altitude mammal. |

Okay, I have something to say - but don't get your hopes up about it, promise?
I've actually been working on a centipede creature for a while now.
It's modeled, textured, got a skeleton, and has the initial weight
painting done. No animations done, though, and it still needs to be
tweaked in areas.
When I saw your post about a shaggy centipede, I was like "WHOA!", I'm actually already working on one. Talk about DeJa-vu.
But this centipede started as a personal project of mine, so I'm doing
it at my leisure. So I'm not gonna say I'm going to have it done in
such and such timeframe.
However, I would suggest you put your idea of making a sheep/hairy yak
creature for the centipede on hold, cause I'm kind of working on the
real deal here, sort of. So I'd say let's see how mine turns out, even
if it is a little while.

The time it takes to do really isn't an issue at all. "It'll be ready

be a long time until we get around to doing this part of High Rock
anyway, so feel free to take as long as you need to.
I'm sure everyone would love to be updated from time to time on how
it's coming on, so please drop by to let us know how it's going.
Again, what a bit of good luck!
Thanks for letting us know!

Here is link to my photobucket pictures (centipede should have 4 pics on first page):
http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn62/PhreeSpirit_2008/
The "shaggy coat" pic shows the extra layer that will be alpha'ed later
on, for hair effects. I made it after hearing that your centipede was
shaggy, and it was easy to make anyways, so I made it for kicks not too
long ago.
I know it looks kind of stubby, but I don't think you can make land
creatures excessively long and not run into problems. As it is, I think
if the centipede walks over a rock or ledge, it's body will be hanging
in mid air until the whole body clears that obstacles collision (kind
of defying physics, ya know).

It looks great! It really does. I totally see your point about the
length. If we can avoid "levitation" issues, short is definitely the
way to go.
By the way, those Naga Huts look simply amazing. Did you by any chance
make them for Black Marsh, or are they for another project? |

Thanks!
However, I can't let you use those Naga Huts. I made them special for
Giskard, per his request for his own Black Marsh version. I'd basically
be imposing on his project's custom assets by letting you have them,
and I wouldn't feel right doing that.
If he finds he can't finish his mod after all, he might not care what I
do with them. But even then, I'd ask him first to be sure it's alright.
I sent you a PM, Tlo, basically stating the above.
Sorry guys, but I can't help you this time *waves hanging carrot on stick*

That's alright.
I understand completely.
Do you know how much of Black Marsh he's doing?
Is it a small area like with his Arenthia mod?

I'm sorry, but I can't.
Between trying to relax and still do some projects on my own time,
taking on another project right now would defeat the purpose of me
getting better.
I'm not really joining the projects here, and not officially making claims for anything that I can't promise I'll finish.
If I make something for any of you, it'll most likely be spontaneous
and without making a claim, except I will research to make sure said
item has not been done yet, and maybe PM a knowledgable person as such.

Hi Koniption and thanks for the possibility of the giant centipede. It
could be a lot fun to see this in the game. Let us know when you get it
to a point where you think it is ready to give a test run. We really
appreciate the offer.
Great work you have done so far - looking forward to seeing how it turns out down the road.
