Houston, we have a serious problem... |
|
Hi folks. Some serious explaining to do here.
First off, the good: I have recovered after a couple of months of lousy health.
Now for the bad. (And it is pretty bad too.)
I have lost everything on my main computer - all my archived HR
development info, the height map, everyone's e-mail addys, my Skype
install... you name it. I'm coming in on my legacy system right now
(which just barely handles the boards.) I had a catastrophic
motherboard failure that took out my sound card, hard disks and video
card on my up-to-date system. Basically, the entire computer is shot.
Not going to be cheap to replace either. So, this leaves me in a bad
spot.
Now, I did get a large amount of the needed info up here in the forums
before getting ill. I also intentionally got a backup copy of the
working height map off to TOYB just as soon as I could before getting
ill, so that is one very major relief right there.
Also, I note that the board appears to have life and activity - that is
really good. I'm not certain what I can do from this position to help
ATM. I don't have a system that can even run OB at this point and it
may be a while before I get one.
So, let's get everyone's ideas here. The mod needs a leader who can do
the necessary and that means one with a working 'puter. At the moment,
that is not me. So, let's not cry over spilt milk - who has been doing
the work? That's who should fill in for me. (I'm hoping Gyssar has been
around too.)
Over to you folks - I'm open to ideas here!

I am sorry to hear about your computer, but nowhere near as much as I am glad that you have made a recovery!
I don't know how much you know about what's been going on while you've
been away, but TOYB took over as acting leader, since Gyssar has gone
AWOL. We have actually made quite a lot of progress, with advanced
plans for most of the cities, moving on into NPC lists. TOYB has also
been hard at work making meshes.
There's not been much activity the last week or so, I have been
ridiculously busy myself, so I haven't contributed much. Hopefully that
will now change (just finished my university semester). |

Yes,
glad to hear your recovered! Pity about the computer though, ah well, such is life
Yes, TOYB has been doing quite a bit of work, he has created a site as
well. My only concern for if he was to be leader is that he is the
leader of a Fallout 3 London Mod (to the extent of my knowledge).

Computers are awsome till they break. I wish you the best in recovering
your tech. I also hope you are feeling better physically. I know your
situation and how it feels to want to work on a mod and not being able
to. Again, God speed in a complete recovery.

Manged to get connected again.
If TOYB is running the show and getting things done, he has my complete and total blessing!
I was afraid that Gyssar might have gone AWOL. I had hoped otherwise, but it looks like I was wrong. Regardless, you do
have someone here who can do the job and enjoy it to boot. Would that
my OB-capable computer were not just a pile of soot-stained parts
sitting off to one side of the room.
TOYB, whenever you see this, PM me to discuss making the temporary
leadership permanent. You have done a fantastic job in keeping this mod
going. Bravo!
Therefore, let's make it official with Silgrad, if it hasn't been done
already in my absence. I can get at my e-mail, so I'll receive a
notification if you PM me through the board.
And the rest of the modding team? You guys have kept at it I see. The
threads are active and there is real development happening here. Thank
you, each and every one. I hope it's been fun and I regret not be able
to share it in the last few weeks.
Anyways, I'm off for now. TOYB may be busy with school - I remember him
mentioning something to that effect, and that it would be coming up
either around or just after X-mas. So, Ill be patient. (Lord knows you
folks have been with me. And thanks for that too, everybody.)
Off for now.

It's good to hear your recovered and welcome back.
Good luck with the computer problems.

Since TOYB was quite open and quoted from his PM to be, I might as well
lay my cards on the table too folks. Here's my reply to him:
I have no desire to add further stress to you if that is what
leadership will do. I'm very grateful for the work you have put in and
didn't realize you had another mod off site that you were heading. My
apologies.
The fact is, I am not made of money and getting an OB capable computer
will cost. Could be a few months before I am able to return, assuming
my health holds up. I have my laptop to run my business (which I keep
strictly for that purpose to prevent problems with viruses and such)
which is powerful, but not enough to run OB, the legacy machine for
really old stuff and the now-toasted up-to-date system.
Between you and I, my doctors made it clear that the kidney stones are
likely chronic. This is a new development for me. I asked what I could
do to prevent them and one of the factors he cited was stress. When I
told him of my schedule before the attack and how much time I had been
devoting to online pursuits, in addition to everything else, he asked
me how much sleep I was getting.
I had to stop and think a bit. I realized that I wasn't getting much
more then 3-5 hours some days (often due to time zone differences) and
that was happening two, three and even four days in a row sometimes. He
then said to me: "There is your major source of stress. You run your
business, take care of a house full time and don't sleep enough,
something is going to give. Slow down or it will happen again."
I'm not certain what to do now. I don't believe I can continue as mod
leader and it's not a job I want to push on you (or anyone not willing,
to be honest). Any suggestions - as always I am open to them. I ask
mainly because you have seen who has been doing the work, so you have a
better idea on who would be qualified at the moment.
B
I welcome ideas. I hadn't counted on Gyssar not showing like this - it
is a quite a letdown after all the planning and design work we did in
the summer. I know I can't keep the schedule this mod needs to keep it
vital. (I've never been in this position before, BTW. My energy and
health were always pretty much limitless, or so I thought)
So people, what do we do?

RE Gyssar, I can say that right after the mod re-started he took up a
new job doing IT. That is a very demanding, draining job when it is for
a larger company, which I suspect it was. I've known a number of IT
guys to be placed on call, especially the newbies, only to discover
that -"zip"- they have no life any more.
As far as organizing, TOYB also said something similar in his most
recent PM to me, the one following that which I quoted above. I'm
mulling over his suggestion, because it is quite practical. I just need
to be certain I can keep myself from overdoing. As I said, this is a
new situation - so I'm a bit at sea.
I can say that my main thing is to keep the stones from re-occurring.
They can lead to kidney failure if chronic, which is something I have
seen first hand already in two friends younger then I am. Dialysis is
not a fun way to live and I've seen both of them live with it for over
a decade now, between the two of them.
Anyways, I'll chew on this carefully. Thanks for your patience
everyone. Please keep working away - you've all done fantastic work!

Hello guys. I'm dreadfully sorry I wasn't able to contact you with info on my current situation.
Got a bit stuck with RL for several months. My father passed away two
months ago, had to travel abroad to arrange the funeral (he was being
treated for cancer in Germany).
He also left loose ends in three different countries, and a very complicated probate. Had to take care of that.
Also, at about the same time my PC went pear-shaped.
That's long story short. Anyway, I have, thankfully, done away with
those issues and am willing and able to continue my efforts to see this
project to the end. If you'll have me that is.
Give me a few days to get the feel of the thing. I see there thankfully
has been quite abit activity around here even without me.
I'd like to extend my gratitude to Brian, Adam, Tyler and everyone else
who has kept this alive. You've done a tremendous job, thank you.

Great to see you again! I have found some hut meshes for Orsinium (may
need texturing though) plus I will soon upload a full set of concept
art for the city. |

Us not sure whether HR was going to stay alive or fail? lol, cause you
werent here and Braggi just returned to say he was pulling out. I was
worried that this being sent into mine and TOYB's hands would
inevitably fail and the HR would fall apart

Okay, as we lack any strong leadership in this thread, I'll step in to get things rolling.
To Braggi: Go through what you've missed in the last month or so
on the forums, and post as you do. Update any of your old threads with
the new info on the boards, and get integrated again with the commings
and goings of the boards, obviously we don't want you to push it, but
it would be good if you could step more into the role of forums
moderator rather than the more central, and demanding role as Leader of
the mod, though it would be good if you could compile what we have so
far on the boards into a Word doc like you have done so in the past
(with all the new stuff, the old file you had before your melt down was
very out of date anyway).
Also, please start planning Courtable Npcs for Jehanna.
To Gyssar: Get the bloody Height Map done. Period. We'd
have gotten a lot more done in your absence if we had the Height Map,
and we've been waiting for you to come back and release it, and it's
still of the utmost importance. Get it done pronto.
Also, please start planning Courtable Npcs for Daggerfall.
To Deeza: Get those concepts online that you mentioned awhile
back, you were away for a week and after that you were going to post
them; now would be an excellent time to do so. Revisit Orsiniums
planning, and edit the frst post in your Orsinium thread with
up-to-date details.
Also, please start planning Courtable Npcs for Orsinium.
To Tabber42: Finish up Wayrest's and Evermore's planning ASAP.
Get the threads up for the rest of the Npcs that have been planned for
both citys, even if they are just rough threads.
Regarding the assets .esm, I'm going to hunt down Ja'Kha-jay and
get her to start work on compiling it (having prior accepted the role
of organising it, though not having the get-go in the past).
I'm going to PM the Silgrad Admins and get Taber42 moderation over the
boards, and post some of the stuff I've been working on, along with
posting new threads and update posts on the forums.
To Everyone: Get on Skype,
so that we can sort out a more stable core. This means in particular:
Taber42, Gyssar, and Braggi. Get on when ever you have a spare moment,
so we can maximize the chances of seeing each other online.
We will probably end up with no formal 'leader', but rather an balanced
Core in which everyone is equal, so we avoid the stuff ups that have
hampered us in the past months, e.g. so if one os us has to leave
again, we don't get screwed.
Get to it people!

Actually, I was going to do that today.
Thanks for reminding me.
I've also got a few ideas for courtable NPCs.
