Quest Idea: Who Can Drink The Most |
|
This quest is relatively simple: The player walks into a tavern, there
is a Nord in there boasting about how much he can drink. If the player
talks to him, the player will have an option to challenge him. The two
of you will consume 10 flagons of mead, you will then have to beat the
Nord in some kind of a competition (can't decide what it will be yet,
since we I don't know what alchohol will be like in Oblivion) it will
probably be a duel. Not sure what a drunk would have to give you for
winning, maybe a treasure map?
This quest could be a smaller part of a larger quest line. For example:
the Nord and one of his friends went to deep into the catacombs beneath
Riften one day, his friend was torn to shreds, and the Nord was
traumatized. Now he tries to drown his sorrows in mead. If the player
can beat him he will tell the player some significant piece of info
about the catacombs. |

LOL I was going to suggest a knife or axe throwing contest, but...
after 10 mugs of mead I don't think I'd want to be in the same area
with the combatants if that were the case. LOL

There was a mod kinda like this for Morrowind (it added drinking
competitions). As far as I know it based your success off your fatigue.
For this mission I'd say your fatigue could be drained by a set amount
with each drink (the drained amount would be reduced by, say, luck and
strength) and when you reach 0 fatigue you pass out and come to behind
the inn wearing nothing but your boots and helmet.
That way the dungeon's difficulty and its treasure's value are
auto-balanced by your character level. It would also spawn a fairly
crucuial sub-quest to get your equipment (and decency!) back.

I just read this snippet off the Wikipedia and the Nordic Whiskey,
rotgut, reminded me of this thread. Especially the part about people
passing out after drinking it. It also gives me the idea that banditry
and smuggling runs wouldn't be uncommon.
A variety of crops are raised in Skyrim, from wheat to the hardy
snowberry. Of note is that the particular climate of Skyrim makes it
the only region in Tamriel, outside of the most northern reaches of
High Rock and Morrowind, suitable for the brewing of the infamous
alcoholic beverage Nordic Whiskey, also known simply as "Rotgut". This
is because, several times during the distillation process, the
substance must be subjected to extreme cold temperatures, so that it
may freeze and refreeze. The drink is noted for the distinct "cold"
taste, similar to extraordinarily strong mint, which persists as a
feeling of ice in the stomach, as well as for the very deleterious
nature of its content. Nordic Whiskey is illegal throughout the Empire,
but this does not stop many proprietors from stocking smuggled bottles
for those brave enough to try a mug. People are known to faint
afterwards.

OMFG
That video is too funny. And the image of a riekling dancing to that song would be worth the effort.

It could be a scripted beverage which reduces your health based on your
strength (mass), endurance and willpower, and your current health (so
it would take a percentage off, rather than a certain amount). If you
lose a quarter of your health, things go blurry. If you lose a half,
your skills and attributes get damaged, if you go down to a quarter,
you're knocked out and lose.
If you win, the other guy get's angry, and starts attacking you with
his fists. You have to knock him unconsious with your fists (if you
don't, it's a crime). To knock him out you have to get his health to a
quarter left, which could be pretty funny, considering you probably
won't be able to see very well and will have your stats degraded.
Maybe if it's possible, when you start fighting, the NPCs gather around
you in a circle and force you to stay in so you don't run away. They
also start cheering and stuff.
