This tune will play in Riften during the night. It should be a calm, mildly dark piece. It should be peaceful, somewhat slow and soft, fadeing in and out, so at times you can hear the foot steps of the guards on patrol. Also it should set the mood that though things are overall safe and peaceful now, there are darker thigns lurking nearby and beneath, and there could very well be a thief slipping up behind you, or worse...

A bit like Daggerfall's night-time music then?

Probably, but I'm not overly familiar with Daggerfall's soundtrack.

Perhaps a fiddle or a violin?
That would get you the sound you're looking for.

Woodwind might work too... But yeah, I can imagine string instruments would indeed suit this at least to some extent, if not perfectly. I don't know, I'm not a genius when it comes to music, but I have some very basic knowledge about it.

Yeah, mix a violin with a quiet wind instrument... nothing like the bagpipes or anything....
If you'd want my opinion I'd say have a violin playing quietly which would sound quite of eerie... and toss an oboe in every once and awhile

Obviously no drums ( :) ) Some background sound effects like the quiet whistling of the wind could also help to reinforce the emptiness of the background... I'd do that seperately though... I think it'd be interesting to see what we can do with the instruments we have right now... Like I said, I'm no expert or anything, so my suggestions may or may not be good ones. So do whatever you think is best. :)

Well, I can't play those instruments, I was just giving you a suggestion of what to look for.

I used to be able to play the recorder flute... But it'd probably sound terrible as it has been so long since I've had anything new to try to play... That was 4 years ago.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll be able to manage something for this, some members of the team are sure to be able to play some woodwind instruments. Someone should be able to help.

I play the Cello and Violin, and can have someone play the flute or do it with samples... I might come up with something for this....
