Master File Updated Version |
|
Hey:
Went to the download site and no file, tried the new link and again no
file. Whats going on? Is this a drinking buddy venture, or an open
participation effort?
With No Height Map, or No Master File, and No nitch to participate, I see No reason for continued interest in this project.
Goodby!!!!

Adi?s amigos!
The file has expired, no big deal. It just needs to be uploaded again.
The lack of a height map on the other hand is very annoying and I don't
think anyone is particularly happy about that, but we have managed to
make a lot of progress on interiors and cities etc. Personally I don't
think that anyone who would quit solely on a download that has expired
would be very useful to us, or any other modding group for that matter.
'Goodby' is spelt 'Goodbye' btw, you might want to get that right next time you make a dramatic exit
.

Whats the plan for detailing the exterior Skyrim world? I remember
someone here mentioned that we can't merge exterior data but there
should be some way. I hope

The towns will be copied onto the heightmap from their worldspaces and
the necessary adjustments will be done to the surrounding area in order
to make the towns fit on the landscape.
Some of the landscape details (trees, rocks, etc) might be done be The
Grey Wizard himself, but most of the real details will probably be done
by people who are in charge of a Hold.
Once we have the heightmap I'll make a reference map with all the
forests, climate types, and general landscape detailing data. The map
will show where every type of flora goes and what kinds of rocks should
be used in every area. Most of the land will be textured previous to
putting objects on the heightmap, but precise adjustments will be made
during the detailing process.
Once we have the map with all the landscape details the modding can
start. The person is in charge of The Rift will detail The Rift, the
person in charge of The Pale will detail The Pale, and so on for every
Hold. Once every Hold has been finished landscape-wise someone will go
though all the hold-to-hold borders and make sure that the landscape is
compatible and flows smoothly from one Hold into another.

Objects can be placed through the region editor, not just textures

Trees and rocks are best done in the region editor, placing them by hand is too time-consuming.

Of course, most of them will be placed by the region editor... but if
you want to have unique rock formations or unique landscapes in general
hand placing stuff to a certain degree is recommended.

I didn't realize how "generic" the Ob landscape was until I downloaded
some of the Ultimate Landscape mods. What a difference a little TLC
makes! So, while we can fill the landscape with the region editor, we
might also want to go over it manually to improve the atmosphere. |

Sorry for all the questions
Are the towns and cities just being copied so there is an exact LOD replica in the exterior? I figured that would be done
If a person is in charge of a town but isn't the same person in charge
of the hold, will he/she be able to modify the exterior around their
claimed town?
Glad to hear there will be a detailed map explaining everything. Will there also be a cell map?
Example (from Unique Landscapes): http://images6.theimagehosting.com/OB-UL-CellGridMap.6e8.jpg
Who are the people in charge of each Hold? How will the exterior be
modified if they can't be merged supposedly? Will one person detail his
hold, save it and send the file to the next person to detail their hold
and so on? I'm curious because if I can, I'd like to help in the
exterior. The way I mod exteriors is a lot like the Unique Landscapes
in detail.
Can't wait to see what the Skyrim map looks like

The towns will be copied directly on the heightmap. They will be like
the cities in the "Open Cities" mod... or like the Morrowind cities.
The player won't have to enter a new worldspace when he enters a city,
it will all be copied into one big worldspace (except for the interiors
of course
), no loading screens, no nothing.
Every person with a city on their hands will have the right to modify
the landscape accordingly, though he will also have to adjust the
layout of the buildings to fit the default landscape.
Yes, there will be a cell map.
Not every Hold has been claimed yet. All the modifications to the land
will be done one by one, the file will be transferred to whoever needs
it at that moment. Once the terrain itself is final people can add
objects (trees, rocks, etc.) to their Holds in separate ESPs (an ESP
dependant on the heightmap master) and they will be merged with the
master as they are completed.
Your enthusiasm (and questions) are appreciated.

If framerate gets too bad I can place the upper area of Riften in a
separate worldspace however I cannot place the lower area of Riften
into a separate worldspace because it is very easy to jump onto the
walls and out of Riften. |

What we are going on with the open cities is that by the time Skyrim is
released (completely) the performance of the average computer will be
improved enough to handle the frame rate hit.

I have posted roughly that same info in the FAQ forum and in the Skyrim
for Oblivion Outer Core board, it's why cyrodiil doesn't vanish in the
latest master. |

It would be nice to see a few new books in Skyrim. If anyone is interested, I could get some of our books ingame tonight.

That would be great! The books in the "Published Quests and Books" sub-forum should be good to go.
