Voice Claim: Baryn Indarys

Hi all, I'm in need of a Dark Elf voice for Baryn Indarys who runs Fine Goods in Riften. You can see work on the Tower for Sale (which he sells furniture for) and his shop here.

He should be a middle aged Dark Elf, about 50 and a bit crotchety although not overly so.

Also Sieg. from Skyrim has said the following:

4. There's a tower available here in Riften at a very good price of 20,000 septims.
5. Oh well, you don't look like the rich type. Come back when you've raised enough money.
6. Hello, my name is Baryn Indarys, proprietor and owner of Fine Goods. I sell many fine goods such as clothing, diningware, books and more.

Hey, I'll put together some recordings over the weekend, then let you have a look at em, see what you think yeah?

Dunmer voices are tricky, but fun to imitate

I love randomly comming out with a "You N'Wah" every now and then..

Hey, I got home and started messing around recording stuff..
and well, I came up with this.

anyways, lemme know what you think, and if you wanna change anything.

(as a side note, I wish Bethesda used a similar voice actor for the Dunmer like they did in Morrowind, Oblivion Dark Elves just lack that dunmer feel...)

01.mp3 get rid of the "Hi..." just do this: "I am the owner of this house and the Fine Goods store." Can you cut it out in an audio editing program?
02.mp3 Awesome work. No changes

03.mp3 Another good one. I think a "Very well.." sounds better than "Well.."
04.mp3 Excellent. But it's "20,000 septims" not "2,000 septims"
05.mp3 Perhaps, "didn't" instead of "don't"?
06.mp3 Nice!! Spot on. I might add some more stuff that he sells later.

All in all, you've got a great knack for voice acting. Good job!

I like the 4th one the most with the little "hmph" inserted. Spontaneous!

I hope you don't mind but I took the files and cleaned them up a bit. I didn't change them, just made some EQ adjustments to clarify the speech. I think they sound better - unfortunately the clipping where the sound peaks became MUCH more audible when I increased the upper frequencies.

Baryn Indarys cleaned

I don't know if you feel like re-recording anything since it probably takes a while and also tears up your voice something fierce, but it would really increase the quality if there was no clipping. It's impossible to remove that popping noise once the file is recorded. It may be possible to cover it up but only at a loss to the overall quality. I like the voice you use though.

Also, I felt like I would contribute a little as well...

Yeah, editing is not a problem, I actualy put a couple of those together from a few recordings..

Sorry about the 20,000 thing Confused

my mistake. It's difficult speaking in a Dunmer voice, and I was distracted trying to get it to sound right.
Not to mention, some words are hell to pronounce correctly when you talk like that.

I'll fix up the ones you mentioned.. and I might see about re-recording if only to try to clean it up a little..

@bobbyhood: It doesn't so much tear up my voice, it's just freaking hard to get the right tone and 'gravely' kinda sound.
I have to practice saying "You N'Wah", "Your life's end is approaching" and "I could kill that Guar, those boots are ruined" several times to get it right

allright, here's the fixed up, and hopfuly better sounding recordings..
Voice files

I fixed the two thousand septims mistake, it now says 20,000.
tried a new technique with my microphone, to try and reduce noise..
It sounds clearer to me, but lemme know what you think yeah?

I left the old recordings in the file, to compare them.
New ones have 'new' in the title

Dunmer voices as a whole don't realy sound 'natural'
people just don't normaly talk like that

However if your gonna say you don't like it, you could at least be more specific as to what the problem you see is and give suggestions..
You know, instead of the typical, "It sucks I don't like it" mentality..

It gets kinda old if you only give negative words, and is not realy helping anyone.

I'm open to suggestions and such, but aimless critisim just tends to tick me off.

@Smokingdan: Lemme know how it goes yeah? and if you need anything else worked out or changed.

to me, it sounds like they have severe lung damage from all the ash. Mabey that's why all of the dunmer in Cyrodiil sound like brits.

Ok see, thats better. Now I know what your going on about.
I understand that it may not be what your used to, but I actualy know an old guy, who owns a store, and he talks like that

Thats what the style was based off...

but in the end, smokindan is the guy working on it.. and so far he's said he likes it. If he wants it changed, I can change it.. but you know how it goes.
