Quest idea, writing in progress |
|
Player goes to an Inn and gets a room for the night. The Innkeeper
warns the player to stay away from a certain ?important? guest because
he is important. If player?s personality is high enough or through
bribing the player can find out from the Innkeeper that this important
guest seems suspicious and paid for an entire floor of the Inn as well
as some extra money to ensure no one would bother him. Top floor of the
inn is locked and needs a key to enter so player cannot get into it.
Player sleeps on the second floor of the inn and is woken up in the
middle of the night by strange sounds coming from the first floor. When
the player goes down to the first floor he witnesses an altercation
between three dark robed figures that are so tall then have to hunch
over to fit in the inn and a man (the important guest).
The three dark figures seem to get the upper hand on the man but then
the man pulls out a red cube with black writing all over it and holds
it towards the figures. Suddenly there is a large explosion that causes
the player to black out. When he awakes the man is standing over him,
seemingly badly injured. The man speaks to the player.
?Our meeting has been fortold just as my loss to the Caels on this
night. Take this [artifact] and run as fast as you can. There is a town
not far from here called [town name]. Go there and head to the church
to find [Character name], he will be able to tell you what to do next.
Now hurry before More Caels arrive.?
Player is given the red cube, a quest item, no drop, no sell, and no weight.
After this point in the quest the player will be assaulted by the tall
dark robed figures once every two days and when the player beats them a
quest reminder will pop up.
When the player arrives outside the town directed in the quest he
arrives to see the church on fire and the town filled with dark robed
figures. Player is then approached by a man.
?You are the one who has the [artifact]??
Player has choice of response.
A ?What [artifact]??
B ?Yes I am.?
A response. ?Then leave here, this place dangerous.?
B response. ?Then you must follow me before the Caels find you.?
Player is escorted to a cave where there are a few people inside. The person who escorted the player says:
?[Character name] knows what you need to do. You should speak with him.?
Player can talk to anyone in the cave, they are all survivors from the
town the player was just at. They have random dialogue about how their
town was attacked and perhaps a few can be trainers for random skills.
Near a door that leads deeper into the cave the player can find
[character name].
?You must be the one who was given the [artifact] by [important man].?
Player has choice of response.
A ?Indeed I am.?
B ?Yes, speak fast old man.?
C ?[Important man]??
Response A leads to the paragraph below
Response B ?Patience traveler, I will explain.?
Response C ?He was a traveler much like yourself until he was handed
the [artifact] by another and that man was also handed the [artifact]
by another and so on. The [artifact] has traveled in this fashion all
the way from the icy depths of Solstheim and we believe it originally
got there from Oblivion. It is a weapon of immense power but none of us
have been able to figure out how to control it.?
Player response ?So the explosion at the Inn??
?Yes, that was but a fraction of this weapon?s awesome power.?
All the other player responses above lead to the below paragraph.
Player response ?So what now??
?At the bottom of this cave there is believed to be a shrine of great
magical power. Once there you will hopefully be able to unlock the true
power of this [artifact] and learn how to use it.?
Player response ?I will go?
?Be careful. There are many beasts in this cave that have not seen
humans in thousands of years and they will be hostile. Move swiftly
though because the Caels are likely not far behind.?
Player must then navigate through the cave until they go through a door
that leads to a large shrine like area. Upon entering that room a quest
reminder pops up and tells them that they feel a strange tingling
sensation and that they must be at the magic shrine.
When the player reaches the middle of the shrine and finds a statue he is given the option to click on it.
When the player clicks on the statue he is transported to another
realm. Player finds themselves at the shore of a great river lined with
people wearing only rags. The people are bloody with small bugs flying
around them eating at their flesh. They randomly cry out in pain as
more people approach the player. One of those people says.
?You must be a new arrival. Follow us to see if you are permitted to cross the river.?

Wow, very nicely designed quest.
I could see this becoming part of the MQ somehow, but that's up to Sieg.
I think perhaps three days, instead of two. What was the frequency of
the Mythic Dawn attacks or where they just random people who attacked
you when you were near?

Yeah, I was referring to an NPC name. I will eventually fill in the names but I left them blank for two reasons.
1. The story was coming way too fast for me to stop and think about a character name.
2. to leave it open incase we want to use any lore characters.

Interesting idea Trees, it could be included in the mainquest, and the
weapon necessary in beating the villain, as he is trying to discover
"the secret of life" to attain immortality/divinity, but its just the
secret of life, it doesn't guarantee him the power of a god, so he
might want the weapon, plus it could be the only thing that can defeat
him once he has the secret of life. Wouldn't it be cool if based off
the player's highest weapon skill when the weapon was acquired it would
transform into a weapon of that type? |
