Quest Idea: "Eaters Of The Dead" style mission Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

So, anyone who has read the book (or indeed seen "The 13th Warrior") knows what I mean.

For anyone who hasn't, short rundown: The story is similar to Beowulf, except the Grendel becomes the Wendol, and changes from a single beast to a tribe of nomadic humans who believe themselves to be bears. A small town is being terrorized by these people and they call for 13 warriors to help. They do. The End.
Like I said, short rundown.

Anyway, the idea is that the mission could work similar to the film/book, but with differences. The player could come across a small town in the wilderness somewhere, with a few burnt houses, heavy defences and a few NPC warriors left. They could fill in the story, saying that they are being attacked every *length of time* and they could use some help. The mission should take place at night, or early morning to up the suspense. The town should look similar to the setting in the film, so people who play Skyrim could associate with it, but not go "omgz ripoff". I especially like the sharpened wood barricades and overturned wooden cart. The enemies could really be anything. Reward could be anything also, really.

So, yeah. Pretty vague idea, but one that could work well I think.

Ah... good movie. Yes

We could do something similar, but the balance between a rip off and an inspired work is a very thin one. I invite everyone to post ideas about how to make this similar, but different (and also as lore correct as possible). I'm dead tiered at the moment so I can barely think, but maybe I'll come up with something later.

Cool idea. Enemies could be bandits or werewolves (your deciesion), the reward be you have free accsess to the small armory and free beer.

Edit: Or what about Elven fanatics who are bent on taking control of that village as a small revenge (thatwill spark other raids) from the past.

We need something savage, werewolves are good, but any Elves... not so savage. :D

And it would be nice as you suggested if a few of the NPCs that offer services in the town/village offered them to you for free after you've completed the quest. Yes

Yeah we should go with werewolves. Then maybe you would have to go to several cities to find the warriors. Each of them has a specialty. Also maybe on of them would become a companion at the end.
