Hunt of the four furs - hunting mini guild |
|
quote: |
I have a pretty good idea for a faction, not a particularly large one.
It is like a hunters guild but it goes a little deeper than that. For
starters the guild HQ is 3/4 fur tents, which moves round skyrim at
different times of the year, to a total of about 4 locations, the
travelling won't need to be done in realtime or anything just one day
they are in one place, the next they can't be found (as part of the
journey), the next day they are in the next location.
They move around purely to hunt different creatures when they are most
fruitfu in that location eg deers in spring time, in a location where
there is plenty of theml, the hides and such which they hunt for is
collected and sold before they move on. I think the hides from new
creatures should be much more valuable to make this worthwhile, but
basically, it consists of 4 unique (or at least obscurely retextured
animals/beasts)(one for each location), each one can only be hunted at
the right time of the year which will be the same time as the tents are
in that area, to get information about the different creatures, you
must first hunt enough of the local creatures and sell the hides to the
main huntsman (for less that what you would get at the shop), before
one of the members approaches you or trusts you enough to talk about
the next bit.
This should be a bit different for each region just to keep it interesting. Here are some ideas.
Region One: The guy approaches you and says that because you are such a
good huntsmen he would like for you to join him on the hunt of a pretty
beasty beast he has been tracking for the last couple of years, he
tells you he figured out last year where the creature goes but it was
too late to do anythign about it, he offers to split it down the
middle, whatever you get.
After various scripted trackings and followings of trails and
conversations you find the beast (need ideas for what these are) and
kill it.
Region two: The guy you sell the hides to (because you make him loads
of profit and he trusts you), shows you a letter from a relative
detailing his lucky escape from a beast but he just jokes about him
always over exaggerating. using the information from the letter you
track it.
Region three: after selling so many hides (just to force the player to
stick around with the camp a bit) there is a scripted unique beast
attack on the camp, the whole camp cains it, but because it is pretty
large it takes a while to get, the whole camp gets a share because this
creature is so large
Region four: After selling so many hides, talking to one of the drunk
huntsmen (who is only drunk at night) will reveal the clues of another.
The rewards you get for finding these creatures is a) the achievement
of finding the unique beast b) If you get ALL the hides (you cant sell
them, they are quest items) (then for a price one of the huntmen who is
skilled in fur crafting, will make you a very warm looking piece of
unique pathed looking armour).
Anyone like this idea? There are no ranks, but I think it could be
truly immersive, and the sort of thing I wanted from oblivion for my
hunter sort of character, most of the money made is just spent on booze
and better hunting equipment, these people live for the hunt and all
enjoy each others company so much that they simple want to grow old
doing what they love. |
Here I'm just going to go into this further. The hunters who spend
their whole life doing this, the four locations they visit, the
creatures they hunt, the quest structure, and the unique beasts they
find.
I'm going to start with the characters, as I only came up with this
earlier today and I'm way to tired to come up with the quests just yet.
CHARACTERS:
The campsite is split into four tents (my nomadic shelter would be good
for these). There are 7 huntsmen that travel here, 8 if you join them.
Tent one:
Name, Race:
Holgarf the blood-eye, Nord
Background:
Holgarf is the leader of the hunt, and was once one of the greatest
hunters to have ever lived, he is also the one you can sell your local
hides to for recognition in the guild. He lost his sight to a
particularly large bear - the only target he has named and not killed,
this particular bear also lost an eye to holgarf (an eye for an eye
heheh), it was an encounter they were both lucky to have escaped,
despite his blindness, Holgarf still remains one of the more adept
hunters amoungst the guild.
Name, Race:
Daramir, Bosmer
Background:
Holgarf's best friend, a particularly wise member, he seldomly speaks,
but when he does it is usually something particularly intelligent and
well thought out. He almost acts as holgarf's conscience, when he is
doing something stupid. He is the blacksheep amongst the huntsmen, and
is frequently mocked by the large number of nords amoungst the group,
Holgarf is frequently mocked for this obscure friendship. He also has a
biting, dark humour.
Tent two:
Name, Race
Kiav, Nord
Background:
A rowdy, noisey, drunkard, he is the weakest hunter amoungst the group,
not because of skill but because of freqeunt inhebriation and
noisyness. Despite severely distrusting Daramir, and occasionally
mocking holgarf for keeping him around, Kiav has a very deep sense of
loyalty and respect towards Holgarf.
I'll update this tommorrow.

Very interesting. I wonder what would this unique beast be.

"Four furs" doesn't sound that great. Change it to something else, also
I suggest you take up some tutorials and start learing how to make
quests as this would be good practise for you.

One of them is going to be the bear that blinded holgarf, which is
recognisable by the scar, I tried to think of something that wouldn't
require hours of work to implement.

You not think? I kinda liked it, I'll see what other people think
before changing it. I've literally only just learnt how to do an
interior. I am doubtful, I will have the patience and abilities to
learn something that complex, I enjoy writing things anyway, so even if
this doesn't get used I wont be too bothered.

"Four furs" is ok, but try coming up with a few alternatives and we'll see what sounds best.

I think Four Furs does have a kind've ring to it that sounds good.... I
tried to think of something else but nothing popped up so I guess that
name is simple but just sounds right.

Tent two
Name/Race:
Ragvaar, Nord
Background:
Ragvaar, loves nothing more than eating a large chop of bloody meat,
and drinking mead during the height of winter around the campfire.
Ragvaar is more of a warrior than a hunter so prefers to hunt tougher
but slower creatures that won't run away when he is spotted, his
prefered weapon of choice, it the battleaxe. He also has strong family
values and is frequently seen paying strangers to send letters to his
family in greenwood. |

Some off-the-cuff quest name ideas:
The Art of Hunting
Nomadic Life: Hunting for Existence
Nomadic Life: Hunting for Profit
Advanced Hunting
Nordic Nomads: The Art of the Hunt
I'm sure I'll think of more name suggestions shortly...
Furthermore, after completion of all four quests, would the player then
be able to sell hides obtained in Skyrim to the tribe? (Kinda like how
one can sell vampire dust in perpetuity to Roland Jenseric after
finishing the quests associated with the Order of the Virtuous
Blood...)

Hmm, an interesting idea, although having 8 hunters, they will probably
hunt for any furs they need so it may just seem like they are paying
someone to take away the animals they hunt, as opposed to ridding the
world of evil like in the order of the virtuous blood. |
