Well it lasted about a day in the concept stage. I couldn't resist a
quick pop at modelling it. It's very much a WIP. I've already worked it
since the photo. I will not update another untill there are some nice
details to show off such as oar holes and a mast ect.

How the hell do you UV something this big? are the textures on large
objects on 2048x2048? I want to get all the curves in the wood in the
texture, and some lovely norse runes carving work like in the original
museum piece.

I'm loving it! I do however suggest at one end you make it look more like a head, as the other end reminds me of a tail
or you could make ttwo, one like that and one with a head(A dragon or monster would look good).
Also I suggest that when you come to make a sail that you make it a
seperate model, so we can also make plain row boats from it, also if
your going to put shields on the side then make those a seperate model
for more customisation.

Oh yeah all that. Why would I try to extrude a big cylinder shape out
the middle of my boat when I can just make a cylinder and sit it
exactly where I want.
I was planning on actually using the same shield model as the one psychotic did a load of textures for.
I have been thinking of a dragon head totem on the front....But this perticular ship is gonna look like this http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/model-...8%20oseberg.jpg
Making a dragon head after this one is completed to make a quick variation wouldn't be impossible. I found this: http://www.insinga.com/merle/oseburg_lion_40.jpg
http://www.georgetown.edu/departments/medieval/oseberg.jpg
If anyone finds something cooler please post it up. I like the above pic....but I think we can do better.
for a smaller row boat. the same model could be used, but I'd remove
the curled ends and make them end much more simply. Acutally I think
I'd model a completely differnt model for this.

The second dragon would fit better imo.
And for the sails we will most certainly make a few variations for every hold with a navy.

You read my mind.
Sorry, no idea about your modeling question. Maybe you could PM someone like Zarf or Heywood for a faster response.

ah ha. a good shot of various bits and peices for the ship. I have
ammassed a large collection of images and research for the Oseberg
ship- which is what mine is based on. its not ezact. but I tried
. I think I have the knowledge to go in and comlete the model relatively brain spazzum free
.....cept for the boolean thing. I guess I'll see if Zarf and Heywood know.

Man you're good!
I like the shields they look very much like the real thing. I made some
textures for the shields the Skyrim guards will carry, they fit the
shape of your shields closely. If you want I can send you those
textures (there are about 10) and you can use them for the shields on
the side of the boat.
That claymore is a genuine Scottish claymore form the 1600's if I'm not
mistaken. Highlanders are sort of like Nords, can we use that sword?
The hook swords look very exotic, perhaps something you would find on Akavir.

excellent as always.
Although, One question Psychotic. Aren't those shields meant for the
different cities? So each one has its own shield? Mind you I suppose
that could look quite cool if different cities have their own longboats

What should I do with the claymore? It can't just be another genaric
weapon can it. Special soldiers or some banit leaders sword I think.
equivalent to say dwarven maybe. But whats the texture idea..I want a
little bit of engraving on theblade. but thats as far as I got.
Anything special it could be made of. I don't feel its ebony or
anything. maybe an ebony inlay on it perhaps.....shoot me some ideas.
the shields are made purposely for the boat. Its just for the looks you know
and the look I wanted, calls for a lot of shields
also I figured out a good way to do all the sail rigging.

How about some special alloy? Maybe primarily silver for magical properties combined with ebony for durability?

Here it is in the CS, the normal mapping still needs some more work but it looks OK at the moment
Can't wait for your next update

I didn't take a pic of the back but the wood is way to bright, like
freshly cut wood. Just needs to be darkened, I suggest using the burn
tool not just generally darkening it.

Hmmm. I think the wood I used in that one is touch greyed like old
wood, It shouldn't be too bright...I was using a couple diff wood texs
to give a varity to the shields. Does Ob tend to make things look
lighter than how you texture? It's not a major problem to darken the
wood. I do really need to see all this stuff in game so I can see what
needs what. I'll 'borrow' a pc later and test a out my texs myself.
any custom collision mesh tutorials floating about?

Only is the lighting is strong, but the brightness might be due to the secular maps.

When you click on the pallet icon that's next to every
"NiMaterialProperty" node in NifScope a window will open and the first
slider in it adjusts the glossiness (secularity).

Claymore test texture. Any good? I think I may fixorate a bit of funky
alignment and finish the untexted bits and just have it done as it
stands basicly. It just works.

Does anyone know anything about how sheaths work?

Perhaps you could add some leather to grip?

I have a leather texture somewhere. I dunno if it'll look better if I
use it though. I think some kinda leather wrapping rather than just
leather wrapped might be cool if you know what I mean. Dunno if I have
a texture for that.......*googles*
I quite like the wood myself. I was thinking of maybe a little bit of scrolling engraved in the wood. but meh
Honestly I don't want to spend forever on this. I didn't even meant to make it in the first place.

Leather wrapping is what I meant.
You might recycle such a texture from the texture for the steel bow in OB.
