There are two ways you can do this quest. Either Part A then Part B or
you may accidentally stumble along Part B then Stumble along Part A.
A: This can take place where ever in skyrim, I don't mind. You speak to
a woman at a mages guild and she tells you about how she is worried
about a friend who recently got expelled from the mages guild.
He is an extremely experimental alchemist and grows all manner of
obscure plants in order to get their ingredients, he also sends
adventurers on wild goose chases in order to find rare alchemical
ingredients. His experiments frequently lead to dead ends and he often
gets bored of ideas and then moves onto something else. She tells you
how his latest interest has been growing plants from the realms of
oblivion, and he has managed to keep them at a reasonably healthy level
(however the plants have had extremely stunted growth) despite the
harsh climates of skyrim. The reason he got expelled from the mages
guild is because one of his small stunted harrada roots snapped at the
guildmaster giving him a nasty cut, the guildmaster said it was the
final straw etc and ran him out of town in a fury.
The woman says she wants you to find out where he went as she was out
travelling when he was expelled and no one knows (or cares[apart from
her]) where he went. She says he probably didn't go far as he isn't
much of a traveller, he is rather frail and pastey. She says your
reward is whatever weird and wonderful potions you find with him, plus
one very potent potion which he left in his room by mistake when he was
leaving.
B: In a nearby cave (the entrance should be fairly well concealed,
maybe behind some bushes or something), you enter a corridor filled
with a strange coloured gas (you can do this with fog, no?), where all
of the mushrooms are rather larger than normal, and roots have started
growing up walls etc. There are no enemies as this cave is too small.
The corridor opens up into much larger room, where you find the body of
the alchemist, lying next to an extremely large (but dead) spiddal
stick. A notebook near him describes his attempts to create a potion
which should allow the oblivion flora to grow full size, in his notes
he describes how the potion has affected each plant differently, until
he moves on to say how the spiddal stick, which previously created none
of its toxic gas, was going to be the next thing he tests. Logic and
the notebook shows that is gave the spiddal stick an incredibly fast
growth spurt in which is released all its gas until it died, killing
the alchemist. It will be much better explained in the actual notes.
For the reward she gives you, I think it should be a couple of potions with the following properties:
Fortify Speed 50 pts for 30 seconds,
Fortify Athletics 50 pts for 30 seconds,
Fortify Acrobatics 50 pts for 30 seconds,
Drain Blade 100 pts for 60 seconds,
Drain Blunt 100 pts for 60 seconds,
Drain Hand2Hand 100 pts for 60 seconds.
(or is this too many effects, I wanted the idea of being able to jump
and dart around for 30 seconds but not being able to fight for that
duration plus some more time afterwards, I'm sure there is a more
economical way of doing this)
This is basically just a way of teaching myself to make dungeons and
also because I thought it would be a variation on the ordinary
dungeons. So I will make the cave and clutter it.
If this is all fine what cave set shall I use? Ordinary or ice? Also I
won't be able to do the rewards (the potions you find in the cave), so
that will be anything that anyone comes up with. This could be
something as simple a potion with unusual properties or something with
a scripted effect, this is open to suggestion, and could be very
negative.
Fin.

Sounds like a good miscellaneous quest for the Riften mages guild, I
would use the standard cave tile set as I don't think plants would grow
very well in an ice cave. |

Great quest
*Use the normal cave set.
*Learn how to make quests, and make it yourself (This one is quite easy).
*Potions are easy to make you'll learn how.
*Smoky should be able to give you a quest claim code for this.
cheers,

*How about Shygir Caverns
*Your not allowed to use the googles, they don't work that well and they are dwemer.
*You can begin making the quest, just don't put the mage in the mage
guild yet, put them in a test cell or don't even put them in a cell.
*Go on the CS Wiki for Quest tutorials

Ok will do, and thanks. I'm a bit worried about Textures being stretched with this, but I'll sort that out later.
I had the idea of making some of the surrounding trees/flora, outside
the cave much larger too, as it might hint to his whereabouts. |

If you want to connect your Alchemist's background up with the TES3 University of Silgrad Quests somehow then have a look at what's up here
The Quest is about the player connecting up with the Cerro Vampire Clan
and the Uni has a School of Alchemy that will eventually open up to
like-minded tutors and students from other areas of Tamriel.
There is also a TES3 Book about a Famous Garden and a TES4 Botanist in Elsweyr who is due to link in with that too.
Good times and better quests
