WARNING: Confusing quest ahead! :D

You meet a drunken Nord by the name of Hodlin in a tavern in Greenwood. When you talk to him he angrily mumbles something about a hammer and punching his brother?s face in. When you ask him what he?s talking about he will tell you that he got in a big fight with his brother Loronr who supposedly made his pet bear disappear the other evening (his brother is a mage) and threatened to kill him for it. Loronr enchanted his sibling?s hammer which flew right out Hodlin?s hands and gave him a swift hit in the head. The next thing Hodlin remembers is waking up on the floor of his house with his hammer gone and his brother nowhere in sight.

Hodlin asks you if you are willing to find out where his hammer and pet bear are so that he can get them back. The hammer is a powerful family heirloom that Hodlin inherited from his father so he is quite eager to get it back? and the bear has been his pet since he was a little child. He remembers that Loronr said something about going to the Riften mages guild on business so you should start by finding Loronr and asking him where the hammer and his brother?s bear are. Hodlin promises you the recipe for a special battle potion as a reward if you are successful.

You then need to go to the Riften mages guild and persuade Loronr to tell you what happened. When you first ask him about what happened between his brother and him he tells you that his brother was drunk (as usual) and accused him of making his pet bear ?magically? disappear? after which he tried to kill him. He says that he always hated his brother?s ?little beast?, but has nothing to do with it disappearing? he says that the bear just decided to take a trip to the forest that morning (while Hodlin was out drinking in the local tavern) and never came back. However Loronr admits that he did take his brother?s hammer away in self defense? and in order to teach him a lesson, but he refuses to say where the hammer is now. You will need to raise Loronr?s disposition enough in order for him to tell you what he did with the hammer. If you do raise his disposition enough he will tell you that he enchanted the hammer with a ?wandering spirit? and eventually sent it off to the nearby legion fort.

When you return to Hodlin with this information he will be reluctant to believe you about the fate of his bear, but will eventually agree to look for the his pet in the forest? just in case his brother was telling the truth. Though before he goes, Hodlin will ask you to retrieve his hammer for him as he doesn?t feel like going near the legion fort in account of being arrested several times for his ?disorderly behavior?. If you agree he will throw in 450 gold pieces together with the recipe for the potion? if not you will just get your recipe and the quest will end right there.

You will need to sneak into the basement of the legion fort in order to get to the hammer (the basement will be an ?off limits? area). If you make it into the basement you will have to ?kill? the spirit with which the hammer is enchanted. The hammer will attack you as if being wielded by an invisible opponent (this will be done by using a variation of Alasdair?s ?ghost sword? script). It will be highly resistant to normal weapons, but if you manage to do enough damage the hammer will eventually fall to the ground and you will be able to pick it up. At this point you can choose to keep the hammer for yourself? otherwise you can return it to Hodlin and receive the potion recipe and 450 gold as compensation. If you return to the tavern (having acquired the hammer) you will see Hodlin with a huge bear standing next to him. He will tell you that he found his bear in the forest chasing a rabbit.

-If you give him back his hammer you will receive the recipe and the 450 gold as promised.

-If you tell him you couldn?t find the hammer you will only get the potion recipe, but will be able to keep the hammer.

-If you tell him you decided to keep the hammer for yourself he and his bear will attack you. You will not find the potion recipe on his body, but you will find a nice pair of enchanted boots.

If that made any sense I wouldn't mind getting a few comments. Yes Any suggestions for the specifications of the reward items mentioned in the quest would also be nice.

The Gold is to much, a high gold reward in OB was about 200 gold.

But I llike the quest, very nice.

I'm going to slightly change the thread name.

The hammer should be pretty powerful, if you were to sell it to a merchant for its true price you would no doubt get something around 400 gold from the transaction. I know the gold is a bit much, but the alternative would be to make the hammer very cheap so merchants would not pay you too much for it and make the gold reward form the quest obsolete.

The gold is too much, 200 would would suffice.

I agree, though as I said, I will have to make the hammer unrealistically cheap just in case someone tries to sell it for a bigger gold reward then the one in the quest.

Edit:
@Siesta Guru: You can find a demo video of Alasdair?s ?ghost sword? spell in this thread.
