This is just a re-post of an idea I posted in this thread.

I'll just quote myself because I'm lazy. :D

We might place some generic hunting/mercenary quests throughout Skyrim. Yes You will need to talk to the head of the hunting/war party to get the quest. He will offer you a certain sum of gold (or other valuables) if you join his party on a hunting trip or in a battle. The player will be able to be a hunter or mercenary and do simple hunting or hack'n'smash quests if he needs to make some quick septims or if he has enough gold he will be able to hire mercenaries to help him in fights.

Now for the details...

Hunters:
The Jarls of hunting parties will be located at most Hunter's Halls located throughout Skyrim's towns and villages, the player will be able to get the hunting quests from them.
You will get the quests with different difficulty at different places and when visiting at different times, sometimes you might be invited to hunt small game like deer, while sometimes you might get a chance to hunt a Frost Giant.
You will hunt with a party of around 3 NPCs and will usually be given a period of 24 hours to return with the required number of pelts/hides/meat.
If you do not return within 24 hour with the required amount of pelts/hides/meat the hunter who hired you will suffer a disposition hit towards you and you will not get paid. If his disposition falls to low you will not be able to join his hunting party on hunts again until you raise his disposition to an acceptable level.
If you return with the required number of pelts/hides/meat you will be compensated (usually in gold) and for every extra pelt/hide/meat you bring in at that time you will be paid further (better then a normal merchant would pay for a pelt, hide or piece of meat).
A creature like a Frost Giant will most likely be hunted for fame and the player will also be able to sell a trophy from the Giant?s body for a high price.
After every hunt you will have to wait a certain period of time (3-4 days) until you can hunt with that hunting party again.
You will have to wait a week from the death of a hunter until a replacement is hired. If all the hunters in the hunting party die you will have to wait until they are all replaced before you can go hunting again with that party.
The hunting party will get smaller if you decide to take another hunting quest without waiting for replacements to be hired.

Mercenaries:
Mercenaries captains will be located in mercenaries camps throughout the wilderness. You will be able to do different quests for them, from clearing out a cave of bandits or creatures to escorting a rich merchant on a dangerous road.
The quests won't always follow guidelines like the ones issued by the Fighters Guild follow; some of them might go against Imperial lore and cause the players bounty to rise.
The parties of mercenaries joining you will number 3-4 people, but the quests will be balanced so that they will not be able to win without your help.
The deadline for most quests will be 24 hours; the consequences for missing that deadline will be the same as the ones mentioned in the hunting quests.
If you can afford it you will also be able to hire mercenaries from the mercenary captains to help you on your own quests.
You will hire them for a basic period of 48 hours and once that time has passed you will be asked by the mercenary (or mercenaries) if you want to pay them for a further period of service (minimum 24 hours). Once you are done with the mercenaries they will return to their camp.
If a mercenary is killed you will have to wait until the camp hires a replacement. If all the mercenaries from a single camp are killed you will have to wait a week before you can hire mercenaries from that camp again.
The war party will get smaller if you decide to take another quest without waiting for replacements to be hired.
Also, different camps will have different types of mercenaries, some will specialize in marksmanship, some in melee combat and a very few in combat magic.

So what do you people think?

Sounds great!! I like it just the same as the goblin killing thing, since it?s a way to make a living...

I thing the deadlines should vary though, it?d be cool to be out on a hunt for more than a day, making camp and stuff...

It?d be nice if this could scale up and down in difficulty to the point that some of these are a challange for a 40 lvl player, and some are doable for a low level player. The likelyhood of how difficult the missions are can be depended on player level, and also, before you go on the mission you?d have some knowledge of how difficult it will be (by knowing the "target", area etc).
So if it?s not too much extra work it?d be nice to allow lower lvl players to do this also, since much of Skyrim won?t be lowlevel-friendly...

In any case I like the idea!!! Good job!
Someone could start even now making these generic camps and the npc?s and scripts to go with it as well as the "targets", and then it?d just be a matter of placing them out when we have the heightmap...

That's the plan actually, I just forgot to mention all the details. Yes

Some of the scripts will depend on the location of the camps/hunter's halls, but work on the more standard stuff can begin at any time.

If everyone's ok with this I'll move it to the published quests section.

We should have an option to have the player's kills mounted as trophies in the lodge Yes and maybe the lodge shouldn't be located in Riften. I mean, Riften is a more tame part of Skyrim, it would be more likely to be located in a smaller, more rural town like Reich Corigate, as its decent sized, yet on the fringe of the wilds. Or better yet Sunguard, a hunter's lodge would fit perfectly with that town's warrior tradition.

The trophy option could perhaps be present for some of the more unique creatures you'll get to hunt.

And yes I agree, Sunguard would be a much better place for a hunting lodge in The Rift.

Yeah, Sunguard would probably be the best location for it.
