Note: This is the Cheiften's Quest for Greenwood.

Location: Greenwood.

Father Highorhn, Chieften of Greenwood is a kind man, full of joy and good spirits. He looks after his towns folk like a shepard would his flock, he sees them as his children and they look up to him like a father. He has seen many a generation grow up before his eyes, many went off to distant lands, but always returned to the welcoming arms of Highorhn.

Father Highorhn recently has fallen ill, and his workshop remains quite. It is said that a dark Warlock cast a spell over him that drained his strength, and escaped into the wilderness.

The Huskarl of Highorhn calls on you tohunt down this warlock and either get him to take of the spell or slay him, which would brake the spell anyway.

You go of to seek the Warlock.

When you find the Warlock (and if you don't imediatly kill him) he approaches you and asks what you want. You say that you want him to lift the curse bestowed on the Chieften. He responds that he is the Chieften's Son and that he never put a curse on him, he was trying to cure the Chieften from posion the Huskarl was giving him. But the Huskarl found him and tried to kill him. He luckily escaped with his life.

You ask why the Huskarl was trying to posion him, he says that if the Chieften dies the Huskarl inherits the right of Chieften. You ask why the warlock wouldn't, he says that his father the chieften banished him from the village after trying to resurect his mother with necromancy, and that he could not inherit without being reinstated into the village. He says that if you kill him the Huskarl will probably stop posioning the Chieften anyway as the Huskarl will still eventually inherit the title if the Chieten no longer has an heir anyway.

You now return to the village, where the Huskarl waits. You approach him, saying what you know. The Huskarl gets enraged saying that it is none of your busieness and then attacks you.

When you kill him, the Chieften quickly gets better. As a reward he offers you a the house of the Huskarl as he no longer lives in it (This is if you kill the huskarl). The Huskarls furniture is sold of to the local shop in which you may buy it back from for a price.

If you killed the Warlock, the Huskarl rewards you with a large sum of money, and a suit of armour.

Reminds me a bit of LORT... how King Theoden of Rohan was being poisoned to be more specific.

Nice quest! Good job!

Like the idea :D dont see the connection to king Theoden though, I assumed theodens curse had more to do with the lies snaketongue told him, not really magic.

Theoden was also under a spell, that's why he was so susceptible to Wormtongue's lies... that is also the reason why The White Wizard had to intervene to save him. Eomer was also banished from The Golden Hall by Wormtongue because he was "overly ambitious" (though that obviously wasn't the case).

Nothing says cool like a LOTR debate :D .....I got the impression the book construed it as being non-magic like Siesta said while the movie made it out to be pure magic. Doh, couldn't resist :) .

I agree, though we probably shouldn't debate it in this thread.

Good point. Getting back on topic, I like the quest. The only critique I have is how the Huskarl attacks you when you question him. Although it is feasable that he would do that (stereotypical hot-headed Nord) perhaps having another level of investigation would make the quest better. For example, actually searching and finding the tools used to make the poison, or following him out on an poison ingredient collection expedition, before you get into a fight with him. For example, maybe there is a way for the game to only allow you to confront him with evidence when he has a certain item on him (I know picking can be done, I saw Honmund pick Clouded Funnel Caps north of Bruma). If you confront him when he lacks evidence, then you fail the quest. If you catch him with the materials, then that can provoke him to fight you. Just an idea.

Ah good idea. Yes How can you be sure that the son of the Chieftain is really his son... and even if he is how can you be sure that he's telling the truth? An investigation would make things more interesting and realistic. :)
