Shields of Antiquity v1.0 Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

here is the first public version of the Shields of Antiquity mod.

WIP Thread at:
Official TES Forum
and
Greetings to you all nord lovers =)

This mod is the product of my devious mind. and with it I set out to add more shield variety to the landscape of Cyrodiil.
with this version, I added 16 new shields, 14 of wich are strongly added to the Leveled Lists, and two of them are simply acessible by doing quests...thus they are owned by two unique NPC's(wich i'll not name here...)

I've tested this mod for quite some time with three diferent char's...at diferent levels..all worked well, but there is always the possibility of bugs.. so if you find any bug, please report it here, or pm me if you want... only by reporting bugs can I improve the mod=)

in future versions I intend to add more shields, quests, some suits of armor, a Shield collector, and things that I don't know yet... as the development goes, ideas will pop up, and I might use them...alternate ESP's are also planned to improve compatibility

as for incompatibilities and conflicts, i've only found one to date... a Conflict with BoB's Armory mod... this mod is compatible with MMM so far... Conflicts and incompatibilities might come up with mods that alter the leveled lists for shields. if you find any please report them too=)

I'm also pretty open to suggestions. if you think you know a way how to improve this mod, please share it with me in this thread. if you have a suggestion of possible shields to be added to the mod, feel free to say it, and if possible some screens=)

Cheers Gervas

Question in the role as a oblivion player: Would it be compatible with frans + mmm??

i'll create more shields in the future of course, some of wich for skyrim, if you ppl want me to...and these already released can be use at will by Skyrim.

This mod is great to use with MMM, specially if you have a level up reducer mod... as for Frans and OOO, those are mods that I can't garantee you, cuz they were not used during testing... but if you use them, I advice you to load my mod last... if you get to know if my mod conflicts with Frans please report me=) BTW if the lvl lists conflict you can always merge them with the list merger released by wrye...

Congrats on the release gervas! Good job!

I think a few of those shields could fit well in Skyrim. Yes

If you are interested in making some Skyrim-specific shields feel free to do so... check out Viking and Norse shield designs for inspiration. :)

Yeah, we should all play the game once in awhile. :D

Gervas, have you checked out the shields that Psychotic did awhile back? Maybe you guys could put your heads together and come up with a combined plan for each of the holds?

There's a screen of the shields I did in my attachment. They are supposed to be guard shields, one for each hold (and one extra... you can never have too many shields :D ). The black oval one is for the Bear Legion. You can find them in the Skyrim master file.

Ghogiel also made some Nordic shields, you can find them here.

Psychotic has attached this image (downsized version):

Yep - never have too many shields. Too bad the Havok is such a pain ingame. I'd like to make a shield display rack, but it'd be nearly impossible getting the shields to stay on it.

Can't the havok for the shields be disabled? I remember Ghogiel mentioning that he was going to do a havoc-less version of his shields.

They are in the latest Skyrim master file, you can download it here. I'm afraid they're not available for download separately.

I saw that, too. But I'm not sure if the shields would work as shields if the havok were removed. Might be something worth looking into. Thumbs Up

just to anounce that more shields are in the oven... and I'm proud to announce that my efforts are now going to extend to armors a bit.... roman lovers don't feel bad that v1.0 had only a two roman inspired shields opposed to all those celtic and muslim shields.... the new update is sure to bring more logs to the fire....and nords all around here, fear not...you will get more treats=)
BTW my internal build has already corrected the bug that arised to ppl who have Oblivion installed in folders other than the default folders...

EDIT: Damn! couldn't resist...

here are two nifskope pics...

although they might look photos croped and put here, I can assure you they aren't... in game pics will come up as soon as I put this two plus two other I started in the mean time are put in game...

I prefer the hammered brass with iron banding. I can see the smiths in Whiterun making things like that.

I actually played the game today and I found that it works great with frans + mmm, I found 2 wicker shields, a hoplon and a ........ hoplon (on a guard).

Somehow the icons seem to be (a bit) messed up, but I've had that with some
frans items aswell (big randomly colored blocks, very strange).
I really liked the hoplon and the .......hoplon (forgot the name), the wickereds texture is also great but it looks a little too shiny for this kind of material.

the battered(as in worn, old, wheathered) hoplon and the Wicker shields appear right off level one... and the hoplon a bit after level 3... the icons are ok here... I double checked...
the wicker shield was made to be a bit shiny as this kind of straw is polished before being cast into the pretended form... its a kind of reeds we have around my country...it is a bit like bamboo, but when its dry is of a shiny yellowish color... its not as hard as Bamboo, but quite more durable than normal reeds

Guess the icon issue of something of my computer then, I think I found a old hoplon ( a black one) and some hoplon with a frog on it.. or something like that... Anyways it seems to be compatable so far, I wish more mods added their unique stuff to leveled lists like you do... it sucks to have to go to a chest in the market district to get your items... having uber-stuff on level 1 is jsut boring.

the hoplon with a pegasus is the normal version...the battered is a version a bit more worn...the Spartan Shield is a Hoplon in mint Condition..and soon there will be a version really used up..really really old and wrecked....to be appearing right at level 1 also, having really crappy stats, adding to the variety and uniqueness of the enemies....

Even more immersion breaking than the chest in the market district..is to make the new items only available at shops....as if anyone else could buy/steal them...there are quite a few good armor mods out there, but they refrain from adding the new items to the leveled lists... and in the end only you get to use them, or nobody using it, as you can only use an armor at a time...

big update now... Roman goodness for the peoples of Roma.... the scutum use Grumblepunk's scutum mesh, present in his mod called Bella Moretta

this needs to have the boss remade...but the rest is more or less complete...

Edit:
The red painted scutum has been remade...now with a much better boss, and some improved parts on the texture...

All the Scutums have similar stats, except the Praetorian Scutum(but not overpowering) wich has a higher weight but also a higher A.R. ... in most of the Scutums the biggest difference are the paintings, and their prices...being the more elaborate ones, a bit more expensive... they will start appearing to midlevelers and the Praetorian will appear to high levelers.

and some Bronze Celtic Shield... in game...

The mesh looks cool, but the texture is too... Roman (though also cool). Perhaps with the appropriate re-tex it could work.

not tottaly done with this mesh...i intend to try to do something a bit more celtic with it as this mesh allows for more types, I suppose...maybe even the Gaesatae shields....

and I had said that next I would make some roman stuff...don't fear with the new update nord lovers will get more shields... and for all of you fearing for lore conflicts..well from what I remember of Morrowind lore, and its armors, the imperials were supposed to be really romanish inspired so, roman scutums and in the future gladius are not that off placed... I really was dismaied when I first saw the shields used by the imperial legion in oblivion....
