Thieves' Guild Quest, Busty Blackmail |
|
((Feel free to change the name... I just wanted to make a name with the
same letter for each word. One had to be about a woman and the other
had to be the word Blackmail))
After you turn in the Butcher's money fromthe Joining Quest, an
Imperial Thief(Flin) walks up to you. (I know in other quests NPCs went
to find you... So if you can, Flin's coming to you is triggered by
completion of "Joining the Thieves' Guild")
"You're the new kid, huh? Well, I have a job for you. You joined the
guild to steal stuff, right? Well there's this prime house just ready
to be plundered. If you're succesful I may put in a good word for you
and train you in the ways of stealth. It's in Whiterun... Here, I'll
mark it on your map. Get all the expensive loot you can."
This gives you the quest, Steal from the Rich, Help the Poor. (I'll
make that one later. I changed it up entirely. Just wait, I'll flesh it
out.)
After you steal and fence enough money (You guys can decide the amount.) the boss has a new mission for you.
"I have a special mission for you, Associate. You see... There's a rich
noble named Vinran Harenus(Imperial Noble) in Windhelm that insulted me
the other day. He said that the Thieves' Guild is a minor threat and
that I'd die soon enough... He said he'd deal with me... personally.
I'd like you to go into his villa and find any dirt on him you can...
Then come back to me and report what you've found... Vinran will learn
I am not to be insulted."
This is the quest, Busty Blackmail. You must go to Windhelm for this
quest. If you ask around, you'll get three different comments with the
topic "Vinran Harenus". They can be dispersed randomly through the
crowd.
"Isn't he that Imperial Big-Wig here to sort out the problems with the
Thieves' Guild? Oh, he's great! He's brought Imperial Guards and a
Detective with him to track down the Thieves and destroy the guild!"
"Vinran has an impeccable record. Loyal to the Empire, a confident
soldier, intelligent, moral, he doesn't use skooma, and he doesn't
drink! It's as if he's the perfect noble... Unless you're a Nord...
They love to drink. I always try to see him from six P.M. to eight P.M.
when he goes to dinner at (Restaurant name) every night. He doesn't
come out on Saturdays though." (Of course a Nord won't say this. This
gives you info on his schedule.)
"Isn't he that Imperial who has the villa on the north side of town
with all the other rich folk? He decorates his house with purple
flowers around the front door. He's rich, handsome, an ex-soldier, and
has a great house... His wife does seem to nag him a lot though... I
guess no one can have everything..." (This gives you information on his
home's location, and his marriage problems. And maybe if you guys can
put purple flowers around the front door? Just incase some people don't
know what the red triangle on their compass means... lol)
If you go to his house you can speak with any of his servants. He has a
guard at his front door, a cook, and a stable keeper. He has a maid,
but she won't talk to you and only says, "I'm sorry, I have to clean."
(The house will need a place to keep a horse in his back yard. And you
have to be able to get from Vinran's backyard stable to the road some
how, preferably with a locked gate.)
The guard comments that, (He's an Imperial too by the way)
"I feel bad for Vinran. Everyone thinks he has a great life... But if I
was married to that crone of a woman, excuse me, the Lady Harenus I'd
hang myself! But he married her for a strategic political career. Her
family's rich and well known. He was just a poor, yet succesful Legion
commander. Atleast he has that beautiful Bosmer maid. I usually don't
like the Bosmer, but Almara Lightfoot... <whistles>"
This gives you the topic of Almara Lightfoot. If you ask the guard about her he says,
"A beautiful Bosmeri maid. She yells at me for not being able to keep my head from drooping when I speak to her."
The Dunmer cook talks about his master only with a disposition of 60 or higher,
"Yep. Vinran pays well and treats me nice. He even lets me stay in his
villa! I do his taxes and pay his bills.Though... He keeps waking me up
with his Friday night excursions. He must be going to the palace or
something to talk about politics and the Thieves' Guild."
You also get the Taxes and Bills topic... But only for the butler.
Taxes and Bills:
"Yes, he has me do his taxes. He's intelligent, but no one can beat me
in math skills. He bought this strange property in the wilderness below
Windhelm near (landmark). It's probably a fort to launch offensives
against the Thieves' Guild in Whiterun and The Pale."
Almara Lightfoot leads to,
"Yes... I guess she cleans well enough... Though, the master could find
a much better Nordic cleaner around Windhelm. I wonder why he keeps her
around."
Talking to the Nordic Stable-Keeper with a disposition of 60 or more will get you,
"Vinran loves his horses and makes sure to get him the best. After a
while, his horse started dissapearing on Saturday morning, when I come
to work, then reappearing on Sunday morning.
Almara Lightfoot gets you,
"She's a good enough maid... But I don't want to talk about her. Though
of course... There is -something- that might make me talk..."
This requires a bribe of 10 gp.
"Yeah... I started noticing another thing with the dissapearance of the
horses... Not only did Vinran dissapear, but so did the chesty Bosmeri
maid."
Now you have enough information to find his new property and when to go
there. (A red marker would help too) You should be able to put two and
two together to figure out his maid goes to the same place. (Tell me if
it's not clear) On Saturday mornings at 5 a.m. he takes his two horses,
and Almara to his estate below Windhelm. They spend the day in bed.
(Yes, they're doing the dirty deed if you didn't get that.) And he
returns on Sunday mornings at 4 A.M. so no one sees him come back with
Almara. If you look around his estate, you can find a love note from
him to Almara.
"My Dearest Almara,
You are probably wondering why I'm not here at the villa. I am not able
to come... I need to make a speach for the people, and I believe the
hag may be getting suspicious. But believe me, my darling, I will come
next Saturday for you.
Love,
Vinran"
You can also talk to Vinran and his wife themselves. But they aren't very useful.
Vinran: "My duties are to govern Skyrim and keep the people of Skyrim
safe from any evils, such as the Thieves' Guild. I'm sorry, but I
cannot speak now, good (race). Good bye."
Lady Harenus: "My husband is never home! He's off doing good for Skyrim
and keeping the people safe! Blah! He should be at home trying to
produce a child or pampering me! Screw the people of Skyrim!"
(Make her very ugly and Almara very pretty and if possible increase her
chest size to show why everyone is attracted to her. Remember, for The
Boss we're sort of being evil.)
You return the letter to the Boss, get your money, and the quest is finished.
Boss: "That pissy little Noble won't be messing with me again! Or I'll
reveal to the world he isn't as faithful as people think... And then
he'll lose all that precious noble money."
Should you be promoted or not? And Vinran's schedule isn't changed, but
if possible, make it so every Monday or so a man in expensive clothing
comes to the Thieves' Guild to pay the Blackmail money.
(Made it up as I went along... So tell me if it sucks.)

Nice work, Karzan. Especially if it was made up as you go along
Maybe a bit more stealth involved though?
The only thing I can really think of is that the guard response to
Almara Lightfoot sounds a little mechanical; the "A beautiful..." one.
The same with Vinran's "My duties..." bit.
It's going to be very hard to find a voice actor for this as well but
we may end up using silent .mp3s if we have to (it's hard enough
finding voice acting for HG
)

of honor true thieves follow. He extorts the poor as well as the rich.
Our true leader, the Grey Fox, has sent me to rein him in. He also
beats and kills people. We are thieves, not murderers! (name of boss)
is destroying the good name of the Thieves' Guild! Will you help me
bring back the traditional ways of the Thieves' Guild? There are a few
who agree with me, but they are still few. (Boss' Name) knows why I'm
here and who I am. You're a new-comer. Maybe if you can rise through
the ranks, trying to be as honorable a thief as you can, then you can
help us overthrow (Boss) and his corrupt ways!"

I think Flin's dialog to the player is a bit too out-front... for a
thief at least (he sounds a bit like a noble knight IMO). He can't be
sure that you're not loyal to The Boss, even if you are only a new
member. I imagine Flin as a character that represents a true veteran
thief, very cunning and hard to read... perhaps he can put the player
trough a test of some sort (without the player realizing it of course)
in order to assess his loyalties?
Other then that and what Smokindan mentioned it is an excellent quest.

a black button. The e is completely ripped off. I have to copy e from
other text on screen...
I'll try to fix it.
