Well, its taken longer than I expected but here's the first chapter of A Story from Summerset.
This story will take longer than my first one, so dont be surpirsed if
it takes a few days per chapter. Here's chapter one though
A Story from Summerset
By: Verlox
Chapter 1- Leaving Skyrim
Cedric rolled off his bed onto floor. His head was swirling and
when he tried to stand, he almost fell back down. Last night, the whole
guild had celebrated the success of a particularly strange contract.
There had been a snow wolf infestation of his home town of Greenwood,
and Cedric, along with three novice members of the guild, were sent to
deal with the problem. The wolves were quickly dispatched but soon
after, a band of roaming bandits attacked the village. This was not the
first time Cedric had to defend his home and he repeated his triumph,
this time without the near-death experience.
They tromped back to Whiterun and were congratulated by the
hall-leader, Jeeteus, an argonian from southern Black Marsh. The feast
had been long and full of drinking. Only the Nine knew how much Cedric
had drank but such a thing didn?t register with him. Nords liked
parties and often drank too much.
But upon waking, Cedric remembered this was the day he was to leave for
Summerset Isle, answering a call-to-arms by the Fighters Guild master.
Cedric wasn?t very thrilled by getting selected for the job, but it
could have been worse, he could have been sent back to the
Labyrinthian. Cedric went to the wash-room and cleaned himself up.
After that, he headed back to his room where he donned his armor and
slung his axe over his back. Cedric axe was a massive thing, honed to
such a sharp edge that one could cleave man in two if swung with enough
strength. It was also made of blue Skyrim steel, almost unbreakable.
Entering Jeeteus?s office, he was met with a just as hung-over
argonian. He looked up seeing the grin on Cedric?s face and gave a
small laugh, ?well lad, it?s time you headed out. I got you assigned to
a caravan as a guard heading for Rihad. There, you can take a boat to
Summerset. I?m gonna miss you lad, you?re my best fighter. But, before
you go, I have something for you.? Jeeteus lifted a small box from his
desk. Opening it, he pulled out a small amulet, which glowed with
magic. ?From what I?ve heard about those Altmer is that they like
magic. So I had this amulet made up by the mages guild. It?ll protect
you from magic. Take it.? Cedric took the amulet and fastened around
his neck. ?Now get outta here. And have a little fun on that island.?
They both laughed and Cedric left the office.
He exited the city through the south-gate, a gate that he knew well.
Who knows how many times he?d gone through it, he was going to miss it,
along with the snow, and the wolves, and his fellow nords. He turned
back along his path and headed south-east towards Hammerfell.
He arrived in Elinir two weeks after departing Skyrim. A blizzard
had blown through the region and Cedric had to stop in Neugrad Watch
until the storm left. Elinir was a beautiful city, towers that
stretched into the sky, and low houses, good for keeping in the heat.
He walked down towards the merchant district, intent to buy some
supplies for his trip to Rihad. The shop he entered was a small one but
was obviously popular. All sorts of good lined the walls and filled
barrels, ranging from basic food all the way to enchanted weaponry.
Cedric approached the proprietor who was busy rummaging through a box.
?Excuse me sir,? the merchant stiffened up and turned to face Cedric.
The merchant was a fat, short, beady-eyed Redguard, so unlike his
ancestors.
?What do you want? Can?t you see I?m a little busy??
?I just need some supplies?..?
?OHHHH, a customer! Sorry for my rudeness. I?m just a little on edge.?
Cedric handed the merchant the list of supplies he needed and the fat
man scurried about the store, picking up the things on the list,
putting them into a bag.
?That will be 200 septims sir,? Cedric grumbled as he pulled out twenty
ten-septim coins. ?Thank you for your business sir.? The merchant gave
him a sly grin, relishing the fact that he?d just cheated Cedric out of
forty septims.
With the supplies now acquired, Cedric decided to look for a place to
stay. He wandered about the city for awhile and happened upon an inn,
the Dancing Dragon. With a sigh of relief at finding an inn before
dark, Cedric entered the building. A wonderful smell went up his nose
and Cedric recognized it to be the smell of roasting beef. The
inn-keeper noticed Cedric and called out, ?looking for a room sir??
?Yes.?
?Then cmon in. I got a few rooms free. Reasonable prices to.?
?Before I rent the room, are you serving the wonderful roast?? The inn-keeper smiled.
?Yes sir, we are. Would you like a few slices??
?Yes please!? The merchant went to the kitchen for a few minutes,
re-emerging with a plate stacked high with roasted meat. Cedric laid
down another 200 septims, both for the room and the food. The
inn-keepers eyed widened at the sight of that much money and sent his
wife to go prepare the finest room for their rich guest.
Cedric carried his food over to a corner table. Sitting down, he
descended upon the food with fork and knife. He called the inn-keep
over for some mead and it was brought to him quickly. Such was Cedric?s
joy at being treated so well by the inn-keep he bought a round for
everyone within the inn. There was great cheering and laughing and soon
the bards began to play their songs, people began to dance.
While Cedric was busy with his food, a man sat down across from him.
His face was shadowed by a hooded cloak and his voice was very raspy.
?Enjoying your food??
Cedric stopped eating and looked at the man, ?Uhh?yeah. This place has got some nice food.?
Cedric never knew what spurred him to ask the question, but it did give
him some answers to a few questions. ?Where you heading? I can tell you
aren?t a native of this city.?
?Quite perceptive of you. Your right, I?m not a native. I?m heading
down to Summerset Isle, been sent to investigate some disturbances.?
This made Cedric stop eating and set his utensils down.
?Are you Fighters Guild?? Even though Cedric couldn?t see his face, he could tell the man was startled.
?Yes, how did you know??
?I know because I?ve been sent on the same assignment you have. My names Cedric.?
?Well, greeting to you Cedric. I am Roran Hiallu, champion of the
Ald?Ruhn Fighters Guild.? Roran let down his hood showing that he was a
Dark Elf.
Unlike most Nords, Cedric didn?t hate elves; he was only very
suspicious of them. But since Roran was also in the guild he trusted
the man. ?Are you heading to Rihad as well?? Cedric asked, hoping he
could travel with a fellow guild-brother.
?Yes, perhaps we could travel together? I heard the roads towards Rihad aren?t as safe as they used to be.?
?It would be an honor to travel with you sir.? They sealed the
agreement with a toast to the guild and the completion of the contract.
I am aware that towards the end it seems like I was running out of ideas. And it's true, I kinda was. But I hope it's ok anyway.

I'm just toying around with styles at the moment, I'll either go very
clean and slick (with photoshop) or hand drawn with pencil.
Here is first atempt at Roran Hiallu (Clean version).

Thats really close to my view of Roran. But I usally imagine him with a
little longer hair on his head, getting down to about the midding of
his neck and less forehead showing. But the beard and goatee were also
in my vision. Nice picture btw

The reason why there is so much forhead is that it is because in most
offical concept art that is how it is shown, also in Morrowind all
Darkelves were like that (male atleast were). Also the haircut I tired
to make traditional as posible, but making it longer is very easy to do

Here's three versions, the oringinal, one with longer hair, and one
that would be used ingame (It doesn't have alpha's yet though, as this
one is just for show).

Work on a Story from Summerset has been halted until after finals at
school are done and I've had time to re-situate myself. So expect the
next chapter...eventually.
If you havent read A Story from Skyrim I suggest you read that before this, will add a little insight into everything.

Strangely, I made up the name Roran before I even read Eragon (that was
a bad book btw). It was the name of my first Morrowind character back
in 2000. |

Jarlick: agreed. Eragon was a good book (a bad movie, though baby
saphira made it all worth it). considering it was written by a guy
about my age. the closest i'd come to something like Eragon is Dance of
the Ja-Kha'jay over in Elsweyr.
Verlox: keep up the good work dude
