OH! Didn't know it was close to water. I'll continue the vertical feeling.
The map is a huge help
May post some more tonight. Achitecture never really was all that fun to draw for me, so I'm forcing myself to learn

Well you asked what needed doing so...
Since you're in art school I'm sure it will be of use at some point.

Oh trust me, I NEED to do this. My illustrations are so limited since I
normally don't do backgrounds, and I doubt a future client is gonna let
me not do one cause "I don't like em".
I forgot to ask, what materials should I stick with? I was going to go
predominantly wood, with stone as decoration and foundations.
I'm still looking at the map... The castle is elevated correct? If it
is I'm gonna do my best to make that the focal point. And do you want
me to keep the civic and admin building circular/octogonal to keep with
the map? I think it is a nice way to keep things organized in the
immense scope of this place. |

The castle is elevated above the higher class level, and the higher class level is elevated above the rest of the city.
For the civic and administrative buildings keep with the map mostly as
Amol already has octagonal architecture. The little green circles
around the city are actually park/garden thingies (though as Winterhold
is a VERY cold place trees are a luxury).
Timber is expensive in Winterhold so the higher a building is in class
the more wood it should use. That's something you can change about the
lower class buildings actually.

Oh ok, better to know. I'll keep timber to the minimal for lower class.

Here's a redesign of the tower incorporating the walls of the city. I
also did a quick armor design, that I don't know where to put cause I
don't want to start a new thread for just one newer design of armor.
I'm done for the day I think. I may just play some oblivion now
For Close-ups just give me a heads up.

Rename the thread to "-mp-'s Concept thread" you may find that most of
the things you post in here will come under the title

Helmet looks kinda hight-tech, but it's great otherwise... methinks.

I love the snow armor, I would gladly wear something like that myself.
I can see something like that being worn by White Hold bandits.
IMO the helmet for your first armor looks fine the way it is.

Very nice work! The sharpened logs for the wall might get changed to
rocks due to the scarcity of wood, but I like the concept. As far as
the first helmet goes, my first impression was that he's wearing
shades.
Good ideas!

Thanks all. I plan to color that first armor, as well as maybe redo the
helmet. I think my style got into it a bit too much creating that
awkward slant now that I look, and I see the shades now
I saw some neat helms at the official forums to be inspired by.
I'll keep going on architecture, and hopfuly doing more finished
concept sketches cause I think that really brings the stuff to life so
to speak. I saw a thread about a snow creature/beast contest. Is that
still open?
Tommorrow I don't think I'll be drawing much since in this month long
break I still haven't played any oblivion, and I need to arrange a
"seminar" thing with my old high school art teacher. I'll be speaking
about the school I currently go to and as long as she doesn't shut me
off, techniques she never taught us that I had to come up with my self.
Feel free to really give me some suggestions to alter these designs. Am
I going in a realistic enough direction? With the first armor in this
thread, I made it pretty complicted and thought more along the lines of
my favorite Morrowind armors, bonemold specifically. I'm still glancing
through the lore and "rules" of how it all works. You need
fort/military structures?
Next up look for some possible creature sketches, the lighthouse
(maybe, since I saw one modeled somewhere around here already), the
main castle, the Bazaar, market structures, walls and gates, the docks,
and the gardens around the city, I'll be looking up some wintergreens
for that. I'm shootin' for most of it to be in the format of the snow
armor.
This project is helping me out a ton,and getting me in the mood to work back at school.

I think the buildings look sweet so far!!!
I?m excited to see them develop!!
I especially like the hotel.
I see what you?re saying about the armours in Morrowind, I loved their
slightly alien feel. But I think Skyrim is very rooted in real life
nordic and celtic culture and needs to reflect that to some degree in
it?s designs.
I certainly think there is room for some of the more "high-tech/alien" looking armours though, just not on guards and stuff.
The snow armour me thinks is awesome!! It has the coolness of a ninja suite to it
It?d be sweet for any thiefs guild or dark brotherhood activities in Skyrim me thinks...
And what a tempo!!
It?s sweet to use the mod project as a source of inspiration and
motivation for work that will further ones career plans!! I do that
too.
Rock on!!!

One more armor. Read the description for the mauler of whitehold. First
thing that popped into my head. Have the main castle in the works, and
the gates now. Gotta start to pack.

Perfect!
No seriously, it's just like I imagined it.
You can draw some of the other warrior types (from the "Skyrim Military
Thread") if you like... and since you're so good at it.
You can also include their weapons along with the armor.
I know my descriptions are generally lame, but you know what you're doing.

Thanks!
Actually these are all photoshop. I downloaded some custom brushes
awhile back that are all pretty great. I can PM you the link if your
interested.
I haven't gotten to draw yet, but so far things are still calm and I may be able to get something done soon.

WOW!!! Your art is amazing! Really inspiring, by the way, I would like those brushes, Linky please!
By the way, I'm really trying to get into photoshop and Painter, and
start painting with them, My line art is decent, and I need to know how
to color them.
One last question: about the attached image, I outlined some stuff on
it, and I would love for you to telll me how you did it! By the way I
have a tablet so it should be easier for me to perform.

Thanks! Here's the brushes.

Be sure to check out the artist's site, and don't let the name of the
forum make you hesitiate. It's a great art forum with some of the best
critiques I've ever seen, even if it is running a bit rampant lately.
I have to say that all I can do with photoshop has come out of
experimentation. Use all the brushes you can, and work at a high dpi
and then shrink it down. I prefer to work at 300 dpi. Even if it is
simple coloring, when you shrink it down it will be very crisp. I
prefer photoshop for the no mess, and the shortcuts (ctrl-Z/ apple- Z
especially), but it is still painting no matter how it works out. I
haven't really got this till lately when I started to work
traditionally. I can give a few traditional tips you can apply to
digital if you want. I'll be bogged down in homework all weekend, so
just give me a shout.
On the torso of that pic you circled stuff on, the "chainmail" texture
is just a brush from the link a gave you. The other thing you circled,
is a big brushstroke starting at the knee. Really quick and letting off
the pad quickly utilizing the pressure sensitivity. At least that is
what I think it is
If you have anymore questions feel free to let me know. Thanks again
for the comment, it good to hear this stuff when I'm up to my neck in
projects.

A good resource for a skyrim mod would of course be solstheim from the
Morrowind expansion pack, Bloodmoon, and also what practically all of
it is based upon (Norse viking architecture.) I'll most likely get some
concept art in eventually. When I'm able to get my concept art in, it
should be pretty accurate for the style you're going for. |

Righto.
Don't mean to be rude but this thread is more than a year old
Perhaps make your own thread in the main forum instead of tacking it onto an old thread?
