Resources for Dawnstar and Northshore |
|
In a final attempt to stall before getting back to the tileset
, I was looking at the map of Skyrim and reading some of the lore on
this board to try to get a feel for this region. The very first thing
that struck me is that this region would be utterly dominated
economically by both Solitude and Winterhold, which seems confirmed by
the regional economic entries on this thread.
After all, Northshore is bracketed by two capes, and ships don't sail
around capes without very good reason. So it makes sense that ships
from other provinces would dock at the two major cities and offload
without proceeding on to Dawnstar. This means that most traffic through
Dawnstar would be from Skyrim itself, which would make Northshore
essentially an economic vassal of either or possibly both regions. I
can't imagine that sitting too well with the Northshoremen, who I
picture as being in the mold of the old-style fishermen from Maine or
Newfoundland.
I also noticed that Northshore was united via royal marriage to Solitude in this article.
When did that happen relative to the Oblivion timeline, and what are
your thoughts (from lore or just your ideas) on that regional union? Is
Northshore as a whole seething, bickering, or OK with this?
Feel free to post any links regarding this region you find and any
commentary is of course welcome. If the moderators will it, this could
be the go-to thread for Dawnstar/Northshre lore and history. BTW, does
the cellphone game contain any lore about Dawnstar or is it just a
dungeon crawl?
Thanks,
Steve

Dawnstar isn't really reliable for much of anything, it's probably a worse source than Arena...
But really it doesn't have much to do with the Architecture...but
Dawnstar is most likely to be a fishermen sort of area, you could model
some warfs, etc.
