Rift Area 2 - Aspen Forests |
|
I've got some pretty screenshots of some lovely Aspen forests, far more
lovely than trying to move Riften to a new Heightmap that is...

I like gold
But maybe I could throw in some green Aspen trees just to mix things up
a bit, there are already quite a few (green) east hemlock trees, but I
don't think you can see them in the screenies. |

Some aspens with orange/brown/red leaves would be nice, autumn colors
would fit better with the golden tone that's already present. I don't
think there are aspens with those colors in OB, but it's an easy re-tex
job. I'd do it myself, but I still can't find my Photoshop CD... *sigh*
...maybe I'll just torrent it.
Of course it looks beautiful as it is now... just nitpicking.

Looks great Alasdair, the arch is nifty looking. I'm not sure if you
should throw in more color variation or not, it actually looks pretty
cool as is, and in reality aspen forests are generally the same color
all at once. Maybe put in a few white pines if you want more variation,
as those blend nicely. I think it would be fine as is though, and there
are several other aspen claims in the area, so someone else could
always mix the colors in their claim up more, or if you wanted to do
the mixing up, someone else could go for the straight-up gold.
Just a thought, I was considering putting some kind of standing stones
around in my aspen claim? Would you be interested in doing it in your's
too? |

I like it all apart from the boulder arch, it looks man made. If it is man made then what would its purpose be?

Looks tasty! Let's just say the arch was made by the gods

Nah, I removed the arch, it didn't look that good.
Also I managed to get Riften onto the new heightmap without any fatal errors, or any objects vanishing.

Update:
I've almost finished the entire region, as well as the exterior of Riften. I'll post screenshots soon.

Yeah, when I went up that hill I was like "OMG ?bershiny"
, and promptly snapped a few screenshots. If you want that in the
video, head south of Riften in the morning, and then turn east after
you walk up the steep part of the path. |

Riften's exterior is included, but the interiors still need to be
merged. You could download a few interiors from the Riften Claims board
if you want. |

I had a look around and you have been very busy, it all looks
excellent. Riften is taking shape nicely too, I like the market stalls,
that was some good use of the stuff from the CS. I don't know how much
of Riften I can really use in the video though, whilst overall the city
looks good, without any clutter the streets look a bit bare.
I used your into the sun idea too. That could probably make a nice ending.
Edit:
Btw what is this tower thing in the background? (taken from one of the gate houses) |
It's an LOD deformity

Yeah, I thought I got rid of all those (they happen at the corners of
quads). It'll be fixed when the next HM master is released. |

Any progress? No pressure
Once again, just wondering...

The area itself is pretty much complete, Riften could use some more
detail. But other than that, there isn't much left to do. |
