Book Idea: Tales of Shor Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

I was thinking it may be fun to write a fiction piece for Skyrim about the lesser exploits of Shor. These small tales would be based loosely on stories of his obvious Earthly inspiration, Thor, taken from the Eddas- with enough details changed to make them seem like tales unto themselves. These stories would be on a small enough scale so as to not conflict with the established lore surrounding him. What do you think?

Interesting idea-- isn't Shor the Nordic equivalent of Lorkhan, and isn't Lorkhan somewhat inspired by Loki?

Either way though I think its a good idea, and would be fine if you wrote a couple of stories about it yourself-- though you might want to clear it with Psychotic and Alasdair first.

Shor also has parallels with Hades IMO, but he is an original creation in essence. He IS mostly inspired by Loki, but Loki's trickster element has beer replaced by a warrior element. He was also doomed to the underworld by other gods, just like Hades and Loki.

quote:
Atmoran myths depict him as a bloodthirsty warrior king who leads the Nords to victory over their Aldmeri oppressors time and again.

That's from The Imperial Library and I think that it's a good point of inspiration for any tales about Shor. My suggestion would be to depict him in battle with the Aldmeri gods. The way I see it while the Atmorans battled the Aldmeri, Shor battled their gods. Since Nords like epic and overly-exaggerated tales of war I suggest writing stories of Shor's epic endeavors against the Aldmeri pantheon (i.e. Shor kicking the s*** out of Trinimac :D ), while paying specific attention to the smallest bloody details. =)

Also I suggest checking TLI for some extra lore on Shore.

Anyway, excellent idea. Yes

That's what I was thinking. There is a story about Thor in which he visits the home of a giant king. Interestingly enough, Loki is also involved in this story- in the Shor version, he could play both roles.

I won't go into too much detail, but he is challenged by this king (who could vry well be replaced by an Aldmeri god) to five contests: drinking, eating, running, weight-lifing, and wrestiling.

Thor drinks from the very ocean, creating the tides, lifts the World Serpent itself, and resists being pinned by the very force of death, before the king finally becomes frightened and banishes him.

It's this kind of story, capturing the Nordic spirit, that would be the kind of stories I would adapt.
