replaced with Caribou Skulls, and they wear tattered rags and wield
powerful weaponry. They are also considerably larger than the average
skeleton. They spawn exculsively in the densest parts of forests only
when there is fog out during dawn, dusk, or dark, they will spawn as
early as PC level 1. They don't come out at day. At minimum 4 spawn at
one time, but usually more, their minimum level is 40. Before they come
out when you first enter the fog you hear children's laughter, it
functions as a kind of sadistic way to tell the player they are about
to get the crud kicked out of them. They use powerful magic, and are
capable melee fighters. They are capable of summoning multiple lesser
skeletons, paralyzing you, draining/stealing your attributes, casting
poison spells, and have extremely powerful disintegrate armor/weapon
spells. They are immune to frost, shock, poison, and normal weapons,
they have constant effect reflect damage spells, regenerate hitpoints
when they hit you in melee combat, but have a 200% weakness to sun,
fire, and light. When they take heavy damage/die, they have child's
scream. Should you kill one you get a lot of fame, phat looz, and very
valuable alchemy ingredients. I think there will be some kind of
legendary weapon that will be able to eat these guys for lunch. |
They probably do need a better name (something hircine related
perhaps), but I've made the caribou skull and stuck it ontop of a
normal skeleton; as per the description. Need to add vertex shading to
the head to make it darker, but other than that the model is pretty
much finished. I'm thinking about adding the tattered rags mentioned in
the description, but I'm not sure how to best do that.

Yep something like that, I imagine they would be related to Hircine in some way.

And if you're looking for tattered robes, you could always pinch the ones used on the Lich, and give them a retex

Actually the name "Hreinn-Hauss" is from Old Norse and it means
"Reindeer Skull". When Siegfried wrote that description the name of the
creature was "Antlered Skeleton" so that's why he was looking for a
better name. Later on however I suggested the name "Hreinn-Hauss" and
since it was accepted at the time I edited the thread to add the new
name.
I kinda like Hreinn-Hauss since it sounds Nordic, but if people really
think a new name is needed then we can consider other options.
Oh and of course the creature looks excellent Alasdair!
The only thing I would suggest (if it is possible) is to make the antlers bigger and more evil looking.

How did they come about? Result of some necromancy or something?
Probably best NOT to have them as Daedra as that is straying from lore
a bit. They could be some guardians/servants of a cult associated with
Hircine or something though.
What is Hircine's stance on necromancy?

THey actaully look a bit like a skeletonversion of Hircine, perhaps the
remenants of a lost race of Hircine now becomming undead and roaming
dungeons?

Looks excellent Al, I think though we should maybe darken/dirty the
skull a bit to match the rest of the body a bit more. Still great work.
About an origin for the creature, perhaps rather than telling the
player outright, we should have all sorts of different thoeries, many
of them being exagerated and over the top. That would ad to the
mystique of the creature.
BTW, just some Norse word I know, "Vakirauta" I think it could be a
good name for them because it sounds badass, course I have no clue what
it means, it was just the name of some Korpiklaani song. |

Väkirauta is the name of a magic sword of great power in the
Korpiklaani song with the same name so I don't think it really relates
to our creature here.
However I do think Väkirauta is a really cool name for an actual
sword... perhaps we can make a unique sword with that name and use it
in the mod.

Where are these puppies going to live? Some sort of tomb guardian? I
think it'd be cool if they lived in tombs and pine/fir forests, but not
mountain areas or plains. They remind me a bit of Bone Lords from MW so
I think they'd make good tomb guards.

The plan was originally to have a very small chance for huge groups to
spawn at dawn, dusk, or night in forests when the weather was foggy. |

What if these nightmarish creatures weren't the only things that had
chances to spawn during the night? What if nighttime in Skyrim were
trulydangerous, thus establishing the need to return to the safety of
an encampment or village each night?
I'm imagining a sort of frenzied rush for shelter as dusk approaches; a
genuinely scary race to get back to camp before you get gobbled up by
scary monsters such as this. |
