I'm wondering, which perspective is to be used in text in-game? I'd
personally advocate a neutral perspective; "Final chest located" as
opposed to third-person "You've located the final chest" or
first-person "I've located the final chest".

I think a first-person perspective is the way to go. "Final chest located" sounds too mechanical IMO.
The other thing we have to remember is not to have a 1. I've found the cave.
2. I've reached the second level 3. I've reached the room with the bad
guy in it. I must kill him. 4. I've killed the bad guy I should loot
his body 5. I have looted the body I should return etc. etc.

Okay that was a bad example; a better one would be "Activate the runestone?" vs "Will I activate the runestone?"

It depends on context. For the runestone (a message box) "Activate the
runestone?" would be best, but for journal entries first person: "I
located the final chest" should be used. |

Yeah I agree with journal entries being first-person.

My bad. I thought you talking about journals. For message boxes go what Al said
