Hello all,
You may or may not know me but I'm recording the generic lines for
Nords in the Silgrad Tower project. As I was working on the khajiit
lines too, I was asked by Jha'Kha'jay to record some more MW-friendly
lines that gave the khajiit a little extra character.
You may or may not also know that the accent I am using for the Nords
is Scottish. If a true Scandinavian steps up to the plate then we can
record some regional variants of the generic dialogue but, for the time
being, it will be just my Scottish Nord. Speak to SACarrow if you need
to know more.
Anyway, I am presently in the process of reviewing the lines for the
Nords. The script-reworking is not going to be extensive, just a few
additions here and there. The khajiit have references to 'sugar and
sand' and refer to 'me' and 'you' as 'jaji / this one' and 'jajo / that
one' but this is what I have come up with so far for the Nords:
INSULTS - "Get yourself adrift on the Sea of Ghosts!"
THREAT - "Thu'um rain down on your head!"
EXCLAMATION - "By the bones of Ysgramor", "Blood of Ysgramor!"
WAR CRY WHEN FIGHTING ALTMER - Justice for the Night of Tears!
Many of the lines will have variations on a series of themes according
to their use in the game such as: "fire and ice of Atmora", "rest in
the halls of the Nedic" (particularly for those recently deceased) and
"strong as Riften (or Windhelm) Oak". These currently fit a number of
uses for the lines as they appear in the persuasion game, in combat
situations and so on.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received and I hope that, in future, you will enjoy using my Nord voice files.

Scottish is completly alright for Nords, it was actually the oringinal
accent used for the (partially Colovian) Nord in Redguard (yes, there
was only one), before Morrowind was released.
Oh, and add "By the Cliffs of Solitude!" as an exclamation (a saying that dates back to Arena).
"rest in the halls of the Nedic" - I would change that to the '- halls of Shor' instead.
"Thu'um rain down on your head!" - Thu'um is Nordic voice magic, and it
seems strange to use it that way in a sentance, more logically,
something like "I'll shout your face in so far, it'll be comming out
your arse", which imo think fits the sterotypical nord better aswell.

Thanks for the suggestions and the heads-up about the Thu'um line!
I've changed that one so that it now reads: "Wither under the winds of Thu'um!" Do you think that will suit okay?
Anyone have any more suggestions before I go ahead and commit these to a recording?

I would say that usage is to mellow, and it's grammatically incorrect anyway (it should be 'of the Thu'um').

I was trying to get at the old 'fire and ice' thing again. I used to be
a big fan of Swedish Metal, especially the band Bathory, who often
included ancient Nordic legend and culture in their songs. Elements
such as these are often used in various metaphorical/metaphysical
contexts. Nonetheless, I take your point. How do you think a good old
bellow of "Thuuuuuu'uuuuuummm" would go down?
NB: - I'd need everyone out of my house before I recorded such a
line or they might think I needed medical or psychological attention
and call for an ambulance.

Hello all,
This is just a quick FYI notice cut and pasted from my review of the generic Nord Battle & Persuasion lines:
quote: |
ALTERED LINES
StGeneric_BOASTLOVE_00062313_1 That's amazing! (or, "By the bones of Ysgramor, that's amazing!")
StGeneric_BOASTHATE_0018B2B5_1 You're full of it. (or, "By the Cliffs of Solitude, you're boring me senseless")
StGeneric_Attack_000242DC_1 Anger:50 "Hurh!" (or, "Thuuuuuu'uuuuumm!!!")
StGeneric_Attack_00023EC3_1 Anger:50 "Die, cur!" ("By the bones of Ysgramor!")
StGeneric_Attack_0018D269_1 Anger:50 "Grrrr!" (or, "By the blood of Ysgramor!")
StGeneric_Attack_0018D2B9_1 Neutral:50 "Do your worst!" (or, "I'll set you adrift on the Sea of Ghosts!")
StGeneric_Attack_0018BD7B_1 Anger:50 "You're outmatched, Elf!" (or, "You Elves are all the same! All flash and no fury!")
StGeneric_Attack_0018BD68_1 Anger:100 "You Elves are all the same! All
flash and no fury!" (or, "Justice for the Night of Tears!")
StGeneric_Flee_000251A4_1 Fear:50 "I give up!" (or, "Oh, for the solace of Atmora!")
StGeneric_Assault_000624FF_1 Surprise:50 "By the Nine Divines! Assault!
Assault!" (or, "By the fire and ice of Atmora! Assault! Assault!")
StGeneric_AssaultNoCrime_00066338_1 Surprise:100 "You dare attack me?"
(or, "Hey, watch it! My sword arm is as strong as Riften Oak!")
ADDITIONAL LINES
StGeneric_Murder_0009EA82_2 Fear:75 "Help! Call the Inspector! There's
been a murder!" (this is here simply because I like the Scottish TV
detective series, Taggart and this is sort of a catchphrase for it -
it's an optional line!)
StGeneric_MurderNoCrime_00062507_1 Neutral:50 "Rest in the halls of Shor." |
I'm hoping I'll have time to get these recorded tomorrow. I'll post up
a few samples, if you like, to show you how it's getting on. I've tried
not to intervene with new lines too much but so far it's only for these
two types of lines. If anyone thinks that the context is wrong, let me
know.
There's still stuff like conversation, greetings, detection, service
and miscellaneous lines to go. Post suggestions if you'd like to
contribute something that you think ought to be included.

Sounds good! I'm not sure whether we will want to use fully voiced
dialog in the mod, but these smaller sound bites will definitely be
useful. |

Hmmm, I was under the impression that this mod was basically being used with Silgrad Tower where we're doing a complete voice overhaul. Anyway, it'll be an option at the very least.
In the meantime, does anyone have any views on the following
modifications to the conversation tab dialogue? They are all just
options at the moment but, if agreed upon, can be used.

Skyrim is totally separate from ST when it comes to dialogue. We
haven't really started implementing it yet, so I can't really say how
we will use your lines in the mod, only that we will find a great use
for them somewhere.

Good work! I'm scottish as well, although my accent is very west coast
so completely different
Good to see that there will be good dialogue in the mod, will ad a lot
of playability. Another option would be to get specific actors for
specific characters in game? I wish I had a mic..... I could just stick
on a ned accent and watch as bus stops all over skyrim are trashed

Thanks for the feedback Coinneach! I absolutely adore Scotland and have
a fair amount of Scottish friends but I can't say that I'm Scottish
myself as I've lived mainly around Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire
for most of my life.
I think having specific actors for individual characters would be cool
too. Particularly different inflections of the base accent such as the
Scottish Nord. So I hope a decent mic falls in your lap at some point
because it would really help the game to have different but similar
voices.
Edit 2008.03.23 22:16:
Okay, I'm just about to finish off the remaining tabs for the Scottish
Nord generic files and I wanted to give you a preview of some of the
additional lines for the last part. Any constructive criticism, or
especially suggestions, would be gratefully received.

Maybe instead of "These fine garments will make you fit for the halls
of Thirsk!" you could have "These fine garments will make you fit for
the palace in Windhelm!". I don't remember Thirsk being a place of high
culture and fancy clothes in Bloodmoon, more animal hides and mead.

Thanks, Alasdair. I've just finished the lines but it's no problem to
redo some of them. I agree with you and I'm actually quite thankful as
the name of Thirsk to me is too close to home. There is a little market
town quite close to where I live called Thirsk ( http://www.thirsk.org.uk/
) and to think of it being a flashy place for Nords to skulk around and
drink mead is a little silly, despite the links with our area to the
Vikings.
One of the town's biggest celebrities, James Herriott, the 'famous vet
and author' doesn't even come close to animal hides and mead!
The Nord generic files are now complete! I'll post up some samples from
the latest recordings once others have had a chance to peruse these
lines and make suggestions where necessary.
