The Southern Islands! New Thread.


Hey again guys,
I have decided with your perimission that I would like to do the three islands of the south end of Valenwood. I have actually started and have now completed the heightmap (first one). Its copied from this map. The scale is correct to the size of oblivion. I have added some small streams to the largest island (see image).

There are a few things I want to know:
1. What are they called I could not find any info on them.
2. Do you have a resource pack for me to use.
3. I would like a few uniques building preferable the tree type so they are fairly hidden. Looks ihabited at first.
4. What should be on these islands.
5. Is the forest tropical rainforest and if so can I have all the trees.
6. Any specific quests?
7. I will link a boat to the island so do you have a custom boat?
8. Havn't tried much about this, but how do a create a custom music set, which only plays on the island, using the new tracks.
9. Any caves etc?
10. Probably more later!

I have also attached a grid/oblivion cell.

Could you plz post anything which is related to the islands lore wise.

Just to warn you that a fair bit of what i'm doing I have never done before so I may need some help. Eg LOD!!

Weren't those already granted to Kingevil(might mix up people) Confused If not, welcome. Our current resourcepack is not that big. We started on the North of VW, so are the availlable models. ANd well we ain't got no palmtrees yet Wink

Oh ok, if he has it i'm too late. I just felt like trying some landscaping and this looked like the perfect opportunity. Shame about the resource file, what about all those trees that have been made in the thread. Are they in there.

I may be able to get some palm and jungle trees of Renzekin who is making the most amazing mod if you havn't seen it already:

I know himn, I've been following him for months now. Already asked for the models myself. JUst some teammembers don't like it that they're static, I don't care, but they do. For trying out landscape, make your own little mod. Dunno make some sort of Oblivion Realm(Mehrunes Dagon happens to have lava and fire, not all have Tongue )

Didn't know they were static I swore they blew in the wind in the vids? I dont want to make any old landscape mod, I can easily do that I wanted to make some lore based and useful landscape mod. As Valenwood an Skyrim are my favorite landmasses I wanted to help you lot. Also Valenwood doesn't yet have a release to the people over at the official forums (best place to get helpers) I though I would do one for you guys. I may still do it if I can get some nice tree models.

Could you plz check with whoever said they would do it to see if they still are.

I'm sure Kingevil could use all the help he can get, three islands are a lot to mod; especially so if you are on your own.

check this thread out to see whats going on with the islands but to be honest I'm confused myself!

Kingevil seems to have quite a lot on the go at the moment and he's taking a break right now I believe, maybe FLESH could grant you an island hehe? :)

Ok I see, I read that thread and he had some problems etc and is starting again.

Most of the islands should be dense forest anyway so that easy to do. With a few buildings hidding in the trees. I thought the smallest islands should just be tree covered with one wet damp cave.

Where do I download the resource pack, and do you have any custom animals? A few wild pigs wouldn't go amiss.

Not neccesarily most anamals can be rigged to the existing skeletons in oblivion. Although the attcking animations may not be aggressive enough. For my mod AliveWaters I rigged fish models to the slaughterfish skeletons.

Ok I have now textured both of the small islands. I created a tiling custom texture for the sand as the vanilla ones arn't tropical enough. I'm moving slow on this because I still have no concent. Could somebody also answer the questions in my first post.

I was away when this was created , but I'm back again and will start working on it this tuesday . I could use any help , but the heightmap of the islands was already done by flesh .You are allowed to do some interiors once those models ar done , however . Custom models also are usefull . Especially palmtress , but those appear to be impossible . Oblivion doest understand the font thing .

Hey everyone, I'm glad to say things havereally lightened up lately and I have more free time on my hands. As mentioned the heightmap for these islands is part of Valenwoods main heightmap and has already been made. However if you would like to work on some other exteriors PM me and we can sort something out. Also we do need those retextured interiors for Arenthia.

And KingEvil, before you start I need to give you an updated version of the ESM.

Yeah we are currently thinking of combining but he has not responded in a while. I mean combining my mod the Ocean Mod and his mod the Island Mod. I would just restart in his world and start building cities and AI which I seem to be talented at. Good job!

great to see you are getting involved! So far Winsurfer has been doing an exceptionally skilled job of bringing the southern islands to life. Heyy, I have been trying to book a holiday there, but the travel companies say they have never heard of Tamriel - can you believe it? Eek 1

I imagine that Windsurfer will be very happy to have some new meshes and stuff input from you, and remember that the islands are basically 3 islands surrounded by ocean - so maybe we will end up with an ocean (including islands) that is hotter than any other ocean in Nirn!

It will be very useful to have an extra hut type too (saw your pic) as we have a pirate infestataion in the coastal area somewhere, and pirates come from all over the world. Wink

I still imaging lots of of Ayleid/Aldmer towerruins along the coast, some can easily, with some (drift)wood, be turned into piratehideouts, further we can use caves :)

He already knows, he has already done a superb interior for me. The pirate idea would be good for the mainland as i'm running out of space on the islands :D (want to have some plain jungle)

Perhaps one cave near the sea. I agree some plain jungle is more important master of the South :D
