Here are the Journal Entries for the beginning of the quest and the
finding of the bow. The Maze would be a simple one, with only two or
three wrong passages and dead ends. The center of the maze has six
large rocks, of different sizes. The third largest is also the third
smallest, and is a chest that holds the bow. It is also the third rock
in the circle if you count clockwise from the rock situated towards the
North. A few beasties in the maze spice it up. After these journal
entries the Dialog of the quest begins to arise.
This also takes place on the middle island, and the maze is below it.
[Journal Entry 1](After Reading the Book)
I found a book in the home of Denego Monthala, a story about a
Bosmer and a cursed bow. Apparently, Denego believes this story to be
real, as he scribbled hasty notes concerning the hiding of the bow on
this middle island. His writing is near illegible, but he has hidden
this artifact in a maze beneath the island. If I can find the cave, and
solve the maze, I might find the bow as well.
He makes mention of ‘magic guards.’ So it may be trapped. Nonetheless,
I am keen to see just how true the legend is, and how powerful the bow.
[Journal Entry 2](After approaching cave entrance)
I have found a small cavern entrance on the island, and am almost
sure this is the one Denego wrote of. Who knows what the lunatic has
placed in the maze to keep adventurers at bay, so I best move with
care.
[Journal Entry 3](After reaching cave maze center)
Only a lunatic can make a maze like this; any sane man would hardly
call this a proper maze. Likewise, hardly would a sane man hide a bow
in a room of large rocks. He spoke of a third rock, hollow and hidden
by five. And a Chest of Rocks, so perhaps one of these rocks is a
chest? ‘Magic guards’ so I must tread carefully.
[Journal Entry 4](After finding Bow)
I have found the bow, just where the lunatic had described it. Like
the story says it is indeed of a beautiful make, and finely crafted. I
can feel the magic emitting from it, so the enchantment must be strong.
I wonder if the legend is true.

Here's the first bit of dialog concerning the quest. In () I have
included the conditions through which the dialog occurs for ease of
reading and creating the quest. Do tell me if anything I write is not
going to be possible or will be too difficult in the game.
Two branches appear early in the quest, shown as (A) and (B). Destroy
the bow, or not. Not a major Branching, since trying to destroy the bow
will end up with the result written below. I hope it is possible to do
this.
(After finding bow, and after journal entry, Denego Monthala enters the room and approaches the player.)
Denego: “No! No no no no no! Bow found, I failed, evil unleashed! Why?! Why?!”
PC: “How did you-?”
Denego: “Book moved, page out of place. Shifted on table just
slight. Not all right, someone had touched, someone had read! I knew,
and rushed to find bow and keep it safe. But no! The Gods curse me and
the evil unleashed upon world again! Bow must be destroyed, has to be
destroyed! Hiding won’t do, won’t do. Must destroy bow!”
PC: (A) “Okay, okay… we’ll destroy it.”
(B)“Not a chance! There has to be another option!”
(A)
Denego: “Yes, yes, destroy it we must! Come, come with Denego. We burn
and smash the bow. We destroy the evil.” (End Dialog, Denego takes the
bow.)
[Journal Entry A1] (After Dialog)
Denego had somehow known I was here, taking the bow. He seems to be
very observant despite his insanity. He insisted the bow be destroyed,
and after reading the legends, I can’t help but feel it may be better
for me to agree with him. I will follow him to his home where we will
attempt to destroy the bow.
(At Denego’s home, the man is standing outside in front of a fire, with
the bow in his hands. What follows is simple speech, independent of a
dialog box.)
Denego: “We burn bow, burn away leathers and burn bones. Then we smash, smash to tiny pieces.”
(He tosses the bow into the fire, but nothing seems to happen. The bow
does not burn. Denego cries out in anger and grabs his shovel, and
begins beating at the fire and the bow.)
Denego: “Burn, burn! Smash and break! Smash and break!”
(After a while, Denego stops, dropping the shovel. The bow is still in the fire, still intact.)
Denego: “Take bow out… Bow won’t burn.”
(PC removes the bow from the fires. Denego initiates dialog mode with PC.)
Denego: “Bow wouldn’t burn. I fail to stop evil. Failed, failed, failed.”
PC: “There must be SOME way? Can we remove the curse?”
Denego: “Remove the… Yes! Yes! Remove the curse! Remove the curse! But… Denego don’t know how.”
PC: “Is there someone on the islands who can?”
Denego: “Maybe Weird-Spirit-Man. He knows lots about spirits,
always talks about them. He lives on large island, in sea hide hut.
Rich man, rich in soul and gold. Denego like him, he talks with Denego
often. Dressed in fish and turtle and bird. Maybe he can remove curse?
Go see him, tell Denego sent you.” (End Dialog)
[Journal Entry A2] (After Dialog ends)
We tried to destroy the bow, but nothing worked. It would not burn,
and it would not break under pressure. Denego seems defeated, but I
have suggested that the curse could possibly be removed. He seemed to
like the idea, and suggested I see a ‘Weird-Spirit-Man.’ I’m not sure
who he means, but I think the townsfolk on the large island can help me
figure it out.

Pretty much everything seems possible besides the shovel thing, unless
we make the shovel act as a sword and him attack an imaginary target
where the bow is in the fire.
Otherwise, I like the dialog

I was thinking... why not steal the two-hand chop attack animation,
rename the file, and then have the script play the renamed copy of the
attack animation?
Anyways, will work on the other branch in a mo.

The choices seem to be non-consequential. I'm assuming that you learn
that you will lose the bows great power from the Spirit-Man if you
choose to un-enchant it. But this happens either way, perhaps if you
choose B then the crazy man attacks you and you kill him. Then later on
when you get attacked by the spirit you realise your mistake and must
go back to search the Crazy-mans house for clues as to who you can
contact?

Here is the complete B branch, up until the point of discovering who
could unlock the spirit from the bow. I've decided the killing of
Denego will raise your infamy though not count as a murder that you
could be arrested for. B branch is the evil branch, while A is the good
branch.
The only way to move from B branch to A would be to yield to Denego and
then choose option A, destroying the bow. I'm not sure if this could be
done, though, so if not don't bother with that.
I will work on the naughty quest side first, then the nice.
(B)
PC: “Not a chance! There has to be another option!”
Denego: “What other option? Evil must be destroyed. Curse must
be destroyed. Evil bow must die! Denego make sure evil not released.
Denego make sure!”
(Denego draws a weapon against the player and attacks him.)
[Journal Entry B1] (After Denego dies, Does not count as murder. Infamy raised.)
The lunatic followed me into the cave; somehow he knew I had read
the book and come to find the bow. He ordered me to destroy the bow,
but I refused. Such a finely crafted object should not be destroyed.
Not to mention the power in it. The fool attacked me, but he was
pathetic and died easily. The bow is now mine and no one even knows of
its existence.
(Around 11 pm, the spirit of the bow attacks the player character.
Arrows shot from the bow do not harm it, but normal weapons do.)
[Journal Entry B2] (After defeating spirit)
Some guy in robes attacked me! Completely out of nowhere, he just
jumped me and attacked. He almost would have killed me! The bow was
useless; every arrow just stuck in him but did nothing! I had to resort
to drastic measures to kill the man. I wonder, though, if the legend of
the bow IS true. If so, I need to find a way to stop this curse. Maybe
Denego has something in his home that can give me a clue.
(After going to Denego’s home and rummaging through the desk, PC finds a scrawled note)
[Note]
Necromancy.
The bow must be necromancy! Made with bone and imbued with spirit, work
of necromancer has to be. Abomination it is, abomination.
[Journal Entry B3] (After reading note)
I have gone through everything, but only a single note showed any
worth in the lunatic’s home. It spoke of necromancy, blaming the
creation of the bow on necromancers. Maybe if a necromancer created the
bow, another could remove the curse the legend speaks of. If there is a
necromancer on these Islands he shouldn’t be too hard to find. All I
need to do is find some undead.

Thats pretty good FC4. The necromancer should be associated with the
naughty part of the quest (B), and shaman with the good part (A) if you
choose to go with the multi dis-enchantment way.

Okay, if you look at my past quest posts you will find I have labeled
the Journal Entries. Numbers are those entries before the A/B split.
Then they go A1, B1, etc. This is to simply transitions between them,
because as you will find here, you may not be able to complete the B
quest line with high Fame.
I will try to make sure both branches can seamlessly merge into each
other. This is up until you find your Fame denies you the necromancer,
and you switch to the Shaman instead, following the remainder of the A
quest line from there. I'm working on finishing up the rest of the B
questline.
[New Topic for conversations] Undead
Yeah, there are a few undead on the islands. Most of them are around
the small island though… and no one can seem to get rid of them. They
just keep coming back.
[Journal Entry B4] (After dialog above with any NPC)
Apparently the locals have had issues with undead around the
smallest of the islands for some time now. It was mentioned that no one
can seem to rid the island of the plague, and they just keep coming
back. Sounds like a necromancer to me, and if the lunatic’s scribble is
correct it is a necromancer I seek. I best head for that island and
find the source of this plague of undeath, and speak with him.
(PC will find undead on the island, and find the entrance to the cave, before meeting the necromancer, and speaking with him.)
Kuritan: Who are you? How did you get past all my experiments? And why aren’t you attacking me right now? Explain yourself!
PC: I need your help with something.
BI:(if fame is higher than infamy)
Kuritan: Oh really? A good and pure angel like you needs help
from the abomination like me? Ha! That’s a first! Bug off, paladin, you
are in the wrong place for any sort of service. Maybe your pathetic
Shaman will do you better?
[Journal Entry B5]
The necromancer refused to help me, or even listen to what I had to
say. He’s obviously not going to be of any help to me. Perhaps there
are other options though, as he made mention of a shaman. Maybe he can
help me.
(From here, the quest plays on from Journal Entry A2, though Journal Entry A2 is replaced by B5.)

Here is the end of quest branch B. Now, I may be asking for too much
with this, but the animations for the ritual can be done, I'm sure,
considering how wonderful the spiders were animated. The animation can
be short and loop, it doesn't have to be overly fancy either. For those
who don't know, the words he speaks in the ritual are Ayleidic, taken
from the Forum Scholar's Guild studies on the language. I will have
concept art for the Shamanic totem in time.
I also thought long and hard on the reward spell, and came up with Soul
Release. If we cannot manage certain aspects of the spell, I can remove
those aspects. I made it a Greater Power to limit it to once a day
casting.
BII (Fame is less than Infamy)
Kuritan: You need my help, eh? Well that’s certainly something
unusual. Most people don’t even want to be near me, much less get my
help. So, what could a shady folk like yourself require of a
necromancer, then?
PC: I have Insanity’s Soul, and it is cursed.
Kuritan: Insanity’s Soul, you say? That legendary cursed bow? You have it on you now? Might I see it?
PC: [hand Kuritan the bow]
Kuritan: Ah… this is indeed the bow of legend. I can feel the
soul pulsing within the bone. Work of a powerful necromancer, I can
tell. What do you bring this to me for?
PC: I want you to remove the curse.
Kuritan: (frowns) Remove the curse? Are you mad?! This is an artifact of untold power, I could learn so much from this!
But it appears you are indeed adamant in your wish. Very well. I do not
want to possess the bow myself anyways, as that would turn the curse
upon me.
But the soul in this bow is strong. This is an artifact of Dementia,
obviously, as it is demented in nature and can drive a person insane.
Perhaps you are ill-equated with the Daedra?
The Prince of Madness, Sheogorath, has two brands of insanity. When
most think of the mad god, they think of Mania. But there is another
side, Dementia.
Wabbajack, one of his artifacts, and the Fork of Horripilation, are of
the aspect of Mania. Insanity’s Soul is an aspect of Dementia, however,
an entirely different form of madness.
And since the soul was imbued by a god, it is very difficult to remove.
I will need a special item, to augment my own power. Where can you get
it, you ask?
From the local Shaman at the large island. He wields it. Likely the
only way you will get ahold of it is to kill the old bat. Which is
actually a benefit to me.
That old religious zealot has been naught but a bother for me since I
came here, sending holy warriors and mercenaries at me left and right.
I can’t do my studies with such nonsense.
Put a stop to his incessant nagging, and get the item he holds. It’s
powerful, and unique in appearance, so I doubt I need to tell you what
it is. Kill him, and bring back his head as proof. I have a use for it.
Then I will remove the soul.
[Journal Entry B6] (After dialog with Kuritan ends)
The necromancer agreed to aid me, though reluctantly, in removing
the soul from the bow. He explained that the bow is an artifact of the
Mad God Sheogorath, though it is an aspect of his rarer form Dementia
rather than Mania. Because of this he needs aid to remove the powerful
soul. He has asked me to find the Shaman of the Island peoples, and
take from him an item he can use to help remove the spirit. His
personal suggestion is killing the Shaman, and seems my only choice, as
he desires the Shaman’s head as proof before he will remove the soul
from the bow.
[New topic added] Shaman
Yeah, he’s on the biggest of the islands, in a small shack of his own.
He runs an alchemical shop there. Lot’s of people have been visiting
him lately, since he’s recruiting to get rid of the undead plague on
the small island.
(PC enters the Shaman’s shack, and approaches him.)
Mitillath: And how may I help you?
PC: I’m here for your head.
Mitillath: Oh really? Take it from me, then!
(Initiates battle, Mitillath will strike out and it will not be murder count against PC.)
PC: Oh, nothing.
Mitillath: Well than get out of here, because this shack ain’t big enough to allow for dawdling shoppers.
(PC can attack Mitillath after, but it will count as an assault and can get them jailed.)
[Journal Entry B7] (After killing Mitillath, taking the totem, and his head.)
I have killed the Shaman, and took his head as a trophy. The item
the necromancer spoke of must have been the totem the Shaman attacked
me with, as I can feel power radiate from it. I should take both back
to the necromancer, so he may remove the curse from the bow.
(PC returns to the Necromancer’s cavern, and approaches Kuritan.)
Kuritan: Yes! He is dead. I can feel the power from his totem as
you hold it, and I felt the cry of his soul when he died. Give me his
head, I have plans for it.
PC: [Gives head to Kuritan, and totem]
Kuritan: Yes, yes… Finally, I have gotten rid of that pesky oaf. Now he shall-
Oh, right… the bow… Yes, well, if you will follow me here into this
chamber, I will commence the exorcism. It’s my usual summoning chamber,
adapted for our purposes.
I cannot touch the bow, lest the curse come upon me instead. You must place it upon the altar.
(Kuritan moves to a previously locked door behind him, unlocking it
with his key before opening it to reveal the chamber. PC activates the
Altar, which will place the bow atop it. Kuritan approaches the altar
with the Totem equipped. He holds the totem over the altar, waving his
other hand over it as he speaks, and the air around him glows violet.)
Kuritan: Vasha mathmeldi, ye tarnabye aba rahtan sepredia. Heca. Laloria ya ada ye shanta mitta rahtan tyavoy malatu va nagaia.
(Ayleidic Translation roughly: Dead from home driven, and passage
forbidden reach peace. Begone. Abandon your god and come taste truth in
death.)
(Kuritan repeats it like a mantra. After he says it once, the violet
light dissipates to reveal the cloaked figure standing on the alter,
who will charge at the PC and attack him. Kuritan remains in his
position until the PC defeats the cloaked figure, at which point he
steps away from the altar. PC retrieves bow, which is a darker color
than before, and weaker than before.)
[Journal Entry B8](After PC beats the cloaked figure)
The Necromancer has summoned the spirit from the bow, and it moved
to attack me instantly during the ritual. The necromancer continued
despite that, and I had to defeat the spirit on my own. The ritual
seems to be done though, so I should take back the bow.
[Journal Entry B9](After PC takes bow)
The bow definitely feels different. It feels powerless, and weaker
than before. And the bones have darkened some, as if the bow has been
bathed in mud or painted black. I should speak with the necromancer as
to why.
Kuritan: The deed is done. The soul has been vanquished, and it
cannot return to the bow. I locked it, so that no souls may enter, and
none may leave.
It was the best way to keep the spirit from reentering the bow after it left it to attack you.
PC: Why does it seem… different?
Kuritan: The soul inhabiting the bow also strengthened the bow,
and as a result it has lost both the enchantments upon it, and much of
its strength.
It is still a pretty decent bow despite that, though. Can’t explain the dark tint on the bone.
You won’t be able to enchant it ever again because of how I had to lock away the soul inhabiting it.
PC: Is there any way at all?
Kuritan: Well… here, I’ll teach you a variation of the ritual we
have just preformed. It will remove the lock upon the bow, allowing
spirits to traffic into and out of it. It will remove any enchants
placed on the bow, and allow it to be enchanted as well.
Be careful with it, though, as the spirit could return.
[New Greater Power added] Soul Release
Will remove any enchantments from an item permanently. Target spell,
works like Open Spells with chests, cast on item when it is on the
ground. Can only be used once a day.
[Journal Entry B10](After dialog ended)
I have spoken to the Necromancer, and he has given me a spell that
will allow me to enchant the bow again. It also removes any
enchantments placed on an item. I should use it carefully, as I cannot
restore the enchantment once it is gone. I am glad to have gotten this
fiasco done with.
[Quest end]

Here it is, given to you from the beginning of the A branch. This is
not yet complete, but here is the start of the A branch.
(A)
PC: “Okay, okay… We’ll destroy it.”
Denego: “Yes, yes, destroy it we must! Come, come with Denego.
We burn and smash the bow. We destroy the evil.” (End Dialog, Denego
takes the bow.)
[Journal Entry A1] (After Dialog)

Denego: “Remove the… Yes! Yes! Remove the curse! Remove the curse! But… Denego don’t know how.”

[New Topic] Spirit-man
Spirit-man? Well you must mean the Shaman. He owns a shack on the largest of the islands, where he runs a medicinal shop.
[Journal Entry A3] (After above dialog with any NPC)
I have discovered through the locals that spirit-man refers to the
Shaman, who runs a medicinal store on the largest of the isles. I
should head there and tell him Denego sent me.
(PC approaches Shaman)
AI(Infamy higher than Fame)
Vendessin: Who are you? Why are you in my shop? I don’t like the look of you! Out with you! Your kind is not welcome on my sacred ground!
(Dialog Ends)
[Journal Entry A4] (After dialog ends)
The Shaman, Vendessin, told me to leave without even hearing me out!
He won’t allow a single word with me, except ‘out!’ Obviously, he is
completely useless to me. I will have to find someone else who works
with spirits.
(From here, quest will play through from Journal Entry B1. Replace Journal Entry B1 with Entry A4)
AII(Fame higher than Infamy)
Vendessin: Who are you? I don’t recall your face. You must be new here. So, what do you want from old Vendessin?
PC: Denego sent me to find you.
Vendessin: Denego you say? To be able to speak with him and divine his words is skillful indeed. What has he sent you for, I wonder.
PC: I found Insanity’s Soul, which he told me to give to you.
Vendessin: Hmm… So this is the bow he spoke of. Why are you giving this to me?
PC: He said you might be able to remove the curse.
Vendessin: Did he now? Well, he is correct in that. I can remove
this curse. But I am ill prepared for such a task, and my services are
not free, child. The evils in this bow are strong.
It is an artifact of the Daedric beings, child. Specifically, of the
God of Madness Sheogorath. Two sides this being is composed of; Mania,
and Dementia.
Many think of Sheogorath, and think of Mania. They think of Wabbajack, and the Fork, and think of Mania.
But Instanity’s Soul is different. It is Dementia. An artifact of horror and gore, of evils and sadism.
A necromancer and a God imbued this bow; undoing their work is not a
simple task. I require the assistance of a powerful talisman. One held
by a necromancer in this very region.
He has placed himself here, rooting his vile magicks in the small
island. Try though I may, none of those I have sent have managed to
slay him. The taint of his evils always return and my people do not.
I want you to slay the necromancer, and bring me back the talisman
around his neck. I need no further proof of his death than the
talisman, and the end of the taint.
Do not try to trick me; I will sense the deception.
[Journal Entry A5]
Vendessin, the local shaman, has agreed to help me remove the curse
from the bow, but at a price. He spoke of a necromancer holed up on the
smallest isle, and demands I slay the sorcerer. Considering he requires
a talisman from the neck of the necromancer, I don’t see any other way
of going about this.
