Capadocia - Fairy Pillars and Cave Dwellings
Take a look at these views of desert/near desert hills and dwellings
3 Linkies: Wiki - Capadocia Goreme National Park and the Rock sites of Capadocia Capadocian cave and rock formation images There are loads more on google - I believe that these could be very useful for our desrt rim areas. And believe me there are more stunning examples and views. One of these gigantic 'fairy' pillars is honeycombed with cave dwellings ... I have a few pics from a Polish paper, but no scanner right now that really rock.

Seems we have more than just concepts here - but need moddeler/s to make it so. I keep thinking of kingevil's 100 cities concept that he forsook for fame with ST ...
Those kind of cave excavations could as easily exist in underground caverns as on the surface - if fact a few abandoned surface dweelings of that type would add character and might intrigue the player. Then create underground ones inhabited by the 'long-lost' original inhabitants. = a ghasp from the past. Another Claim option methinks - tileset, modder and maybe mayor.

The capadocia suggestion is the most ambitious one I've seen on these forums if it were done right.... But it's also caught my fancy, so to speak. I think that we wouldn't be able to call our mod complete without such a region. Still, we're going to need ideas on how to attract the talent for it, on how to impliment it, and where it would be. Suggestions?

If someone could check the available images on google - there are more. I discovered this via a Polish paper but have no scanner - some of the Polish pics are superior to the ones I googled.
Then go to ESF - + chat with friendly ex-Vvardenfell modellers and sTers etc? The wonderful thing about kingevil's 100 cities concept - lets call it the 100 buried cities - is that it ties in with Bobby Hood who wrote "It is said that a hundred cities are buried beneath the sands" in his intro for the Trailer. So the Cappadocian caves could be one of the layers in that buried multi-city.

I agree, it would give some life to the idea.
And as we are lacking a system of fast travel, wouldn't it be nice to be able to discover ancient means of travel through the cities, from beneath the sands?

If this were implemented it would be really awesome.
This temple built into the rock that would be cool if we could do something like it ingame. It would be very awesome to find an entrance like that instead of just the usual door. |

See kingevil's 100 cites thread X23 - there is definite scope for linking up these ideas and adding in Coineache's Serwithe Book - as a part of that lore re the Ancient Houses and the treacherous Hidden House.
Linkies to: Ancient States Lore-heavy linguistic contributions from Kyoushu and others. Linking The 16 Ancient States of which 14 were wiped out by the great plague ... with names linked to the 12 constellations - (possibly there were once 4 or 5 more constellations - now lost or no longer exist) add in the hidden State within the States - the snake or serpent. The Hundred Cities Connects nicely with Bobbyhood's video intro clip Coineache's Serwith Possibly connected with the Black Marshes Rimmen and the Secret Passages The Ghost Door The Wyrm Tunnels - aargh - can't find that thread, but basically DAs mentioned the possibility of underground fast travel and I suggested Worm Tunnels. [edit] :lmao: well the thread is this one - see above! What I propose is this: The Snake Brothers and the Ancient States
There were 16 Ancient states whose 16 centers of power were connected by Giant Wyrm Tunnels arranged like a Wagon Wheel. These were Draconic/reptilian deep Delving Wyrms and the organisation that looked after the tunnels and the creatures were the counterpart of or became connected with and named after the snake constellation? There was a Treaty between the States such that the Tunnels, the Wyrms and their guardians were held to be neutral and eventually came to be seen as sacrosanct. Trajically and perhaps inevitably at some ancient point in time there was a war (who started it and why?) and betrayal. The Snake Brothers rejected the 16 states, closed off the tunnels and hid with their charges - the Wyrms - deep in the Hub in the Hundred cities - which already had a multitude of more ancient levels ... On the surface all memory of the Snake Brothers disappeared into myth and legend ... Within the Community of the Snake Brothers eventually arose a faction that held they had been deprived of their rightful heritage etc and these guys then set about undermining the 16 states that they believed had all betrayed them. This secret war continued with varying degrees of success until the great plague (could the Snake Brothers have had something to do with that?) wiped out all but the 2 great states remaining on the surface. The Snake Brothers created a vaccine using their Wym's blood but as side effect of the vaccine the Wyrms rather than dying were sent into a deep coma. Quest is to locate the Hundred Cities, connect with the Snake Brothers and win their trust by curing/reviving the Wyrms and thereby effect the re-opening of the Wyrm Tunnels etc ... or not :brew:
