The thought process here is that when the quest is eventually completed in TES IV the PC will have or be given some special abilities, likewise our PC in TES III should recieve something of equal value.

raggidman agreed: that he has already pmmed razorwingy about that very thing, though put in different terms - and was planning to pm Rodan and Valderon too, then put out a general ST TES3 quest modders query on the subject.

Thing is that if this is to be a fair attempt at a Main Quest then it has to reach out to events generally in a fundamentally meaningful way - octopus style

raggidman: don't know if you realised it, but you have presented me with a very difficult set of options here - there are important potential gains either way... the scholar is a very useful go-between, but her death might provide pathos as raggidman (and hopefully the player is very fond of her) - the difficulty arises in that she is one of the Cerro - fooled you eh? :] So then the Cerro have to provide a new go-between. But the real problem is that NO ONE knows about the Cerro, so why was she assassinated? - I have an idea , but I wondered what would occur to you - so that I can come up with a variation on whatever you suggest

The idea of the potion is that it is likely by the time the player gets to this point he/she will have 'everything' ... and what do you give the player who has everything? Well, you can save him/her a bit of time in creating further high level pots. So maybe this first pot could be 300 for 120? And add a further letter to be 'found' that might say:

Here is a small potion that you may offer. If ...nerev... proves useful, then we will provide something more potent and eventually we may do business.

Not too sure of the letter as I do not want to influence the player too heavily - the experience of the choices should be as dramatic as possible... but additionally if there are flamers who howl about the strength of the later pots on ESF that will be great advertising! :goodjob: [/QUOTE]

[COLOR=gold]It might be worth offering the player a choice between access to really high level pots and and atifact - but you have to consider what the lpayer's needs might be by this time - a CE Invis is easy to create... However such a powerful artifact as a CE Cham 70% if passed up in TES3 could still exist in TES4, eh? :brew: These are questions I was keeping on the back-burner not least because I want to know more about the general reward scheme in TES3 ST and the rest - not any one artifact, but all of them really, and the quest importance and difficulties that they relate to, etc... another reason to get Razorthingy Rodan and Valderon in on this... if not I will continue as best natch hrug:

yup, you got me on the scholar, ok so we don't axe her, so then we need some imaginative ways for the hero to find these letters:

Scholars Home
Shipwreck
Pirates Cove
Library
etc....etc.....

As you said they can be found all at once or 1 at a time, I like the 1 at a time myself, as the smaller, go find-em or deliver-em type quests are done, these letters can be part of the findings.


Potion Idea:

I like the way you had it with it being given by the scholar, and then add to that.

Artifacts:

Do we want to do artifacts, I thought is was policy not to make artifacts unless we had substanial Lore to back it up ?

I've had this discussion before about artifacts and my stance is simply this: An artifact is something Old that has some historic value....

For ES purposes Artifacts "typically" have historic value or they are items with significant meaning, such as Clavious Viles Mask, Auriels Bow, Lord Mail etc etc

But I have no problem adding an Artifact to the game as long as we can back it up somehow.

Otherwise Special items or gifts can always be given

I like the Idea of actually giving the Hero a special ability, similar to the abilities they character has based on birthsign (just a thought)

I have not totally rejected the idea of the scholar being assassinated later - but it is just that there would have to be a damn good reason. Other than that she is a Cerro. She may have her finger in other pies for example, we'll have to keep this option open and see later.

That has to be worked into the Timeline Post but I think that the Sages' letters must be found in the home of the Redoran Scholar when the player finds it. They may be in different locations so that they are found one by one, and they may be hidden in plain sight = loads of clutter... scholar hrug: thus they can be found all at once, or bit by bit. In the shipwreck; in crates floating around there; in a leather case on the seabed below the shipwreck; among the loot that the pirates have taken; on the body of a dead pirate (just crumpled up and stuffed in there) etc...

Either sort might be found in the home or on the body of an enemy agent... so the more letters the better - have to upgrade them so that the player becomes fascinated by the tale - and there will be books natch. Maybe a few early volumes of the Botany Books.

What I really want to see are stacks and stacks of crates filled with all sorts of books and personal possessions from floor to ceiling in the hold of the sinking ship and dumped in the hold of the pirate vessel. Natch most of them will be ruined by saltwater so they will only have legible titles on the cover = we can thus include some of the famous past titles for which we have little or no content in-game...

Terrible thing to do to those who love to read eh? But it has to be done. :yes:

Why, an outlander may visit any City in Morrowind, even in the corrupt Hlaalu City of Balmora, and will be told by any pauper on the streets that even they, the poorest, benefit from the Temple's University system... it is ancient and revered. Quest: Shipment to Silgrad

Whether he/she has completed the Morrowind MQ or not does not matter at this point - the Nerev is intercepted by a messenger shortly after the quest bearing a crisp and succinct letter:

To The Rescue

Dear Sir/Madam,
it has come to our attention that you are both resouceful and capable, and we have urgent need of your services, please contact ...... at ...address... in Silgrad City ..... generous remuneration ......

The player meets the letter writer in Silgrad who is apparently a wealthy Redoran. The Nev enters the sitting room, where there is a side table laid out with three places and a choice of wines, and they talk:

Redoran scholar: "Welcome, welcome, please make yourself at home and refresh yourself. Gives Nerev various victuals. Redoran scholar: We have had dire news, brought by an old and respected colleague and dear friend..."

A Voice seemingly coming from thin air chimes in: "Really dear, not so much of the old, Ancient more-like..."
... One second there were only two of them in the room, and then the Nerev turns to confront - the most raggid and wild Indoril he has ever seen, with a looong beard, and tattered and stained clothing. And he is human!...

Redoran scholar: "Allow me to introduce you .......nerev name... this is Naimer Indoril, noted scolar and head of the Indoril party that is hoping to found a wonderful new University here in Silgrad"

Nerev: "But you are of mankind, how can you be Indoril?"

Naimer Indoril: "Ummm, well. Forgive this ragged appearance. Great to meet you at last, heard so much about you and your adventures. Hmmm, well, yes, it is a bit unusual. The people of our House can be rather stuffy and pig-headed about 'propriety' but they really are a kind people at heart.

My distant Ancestor was found by a Lord of the Indoril in the wreckage of a caravan that had been attacked by bandits or something. He was just a tot, but lusty for all that. When the Indoril warband cautiously approached the smoking ruin my forbear charged the warband with a terrifying scream and a somewhat bent, but very sharp dagger, crying out: "Death to bandits and daemons." Apparently they had quite a time convincing him that they were friends and had only stopped by to help.

Seems the Lord was impressed by his courage and determination, so he adopted him then and there..."

Nerev: "That's hard to believe, my experience of the Indoril reaction to strangers to date is more like: 'We're watching you, SCUM' "

Naimer Indoril laughs: "Ah, you've met some Ordinators? We believe that they are not actually mer at all, but rather Daedric minions in disguise - it seems to happen when they put the mask on. Maybe the masks are enchanted and transpose the real ordinator with a monster from Oblivion. Nice armor though, eh?"

Nerev: "You had a serious reason for contacying me... the reason for the message?"

Quite, quite, anyways. umm I'm afraid our party has run into an unexpected hazard. We were sailing a round about route to avoid the pirates, and ran straight onto a submerged rock on the Coast SE of Silgrad. Time is of the essence and the Argonian Legion is nearer, but if I had risked the Marshes and got lost ... no I could not risk that. We must trust in you. If the word gets out we may find ourselves in a race with rather unfriendly types. There are all sorts of ruffians in the locality. I will show you the path and be no trouble - you'll hardly know I'm there."

Nerev: "Excuse me, but you seem a bit the worse for wear...are you really up to this right now?"

Naimer Indoril: "Don't you worry about me, I've known greater hardship and survived worse than the shipwreck, and I'm mostly still around to tell the tale ... mind you, you'll be there to do the fighting if any, if that's acceptable?"

The player now has the follow / wait here commands in the menu.

The follow command just gets Naimer and party going along the pre-chosen route

They go to the most suitable place in Silgrad City to pick up a small herd of pack Guar and proceed towards the site of the shipwreck.

What the Nerev finds:

If the player accepts the commission continued: The player follows the raggidman - who is apt to appear and disappear at odd moments while the Nerev is busy herding the guar - they arrive at the site of the shipwreck to find that the survivors and the cargo are gone... continues below ...

If the player clicks no Nerev: "Sorry, not interested, but thanks for the potion" he loses a lot of goodwill with the Redoran, Cerro and Indoril. End of conversation.

Even though the player rejected the commission if he visits the site of the wreck later he will find Naimer Indoril there with a small herd of Guar.

Naimer Indoril: So you changed your mind did you? Well, as you see I have got here without your aid, but you may go some way to redeem yourself.

The player is again given a choice:
nerev: No, just passing through - seems too late anyway old man.

Naimer Indoril: Then you will forgive me as I have business to attend to.

This is an end to any dealings between the University and the player. much will happen, and the University will be built, but who knows how much better it might have been if the Nerev had decided otherwise?

The player sees the raggidman approach an Argonian solier who is sitting on the rocks above the ship, and after a whispered conversation the two move off with the Pack Guar in tow... and out of view ... end of quest ... the player will not be able to follow them. How this is possible with a whole herd of guar is known only to the raggidman...

There is an aftermath.

Shortly after the twain leave a band of pirates burst out of the undergrowth, and immediately assault the player... a tough fight ensues, with some medium tasty booty.

Assuming that the player triumphs, there is the ship. If the player enters the ship it shifts, and sinks and lands on the sea-bed upside down. He/she cannot leave. He/she drowns or starves to death - endit.

For Naimer Indoril this is just a temporary setback - he will go on with the lArgonian Legionnaire to locate the pirate ship, and do by stealth what the Nerevarine might have achieved by main force or magic.

The Sages are freed and the precious books and other possessions regained. Having made their farewells to their new Argonian friend - whom they handsomely reward they return to silgrad City and they found their beloved University at the edge of the nearby Dark Forest.

Once his colleagues are safely at the new building site (with a squad of reliable guards) Naimer Indoril returns to the wreck of their ship with an able work crew to attempt to refloat the wreck.

When he arrives he is astonished to see a scene of utter carnage - pirates (and pieces of pirates) are strewn all over the place. And there is the Argonian wandering about in apparent bemusement.

Naimer tells her that if he had realised what a fercious warrior she was he would have let her do the fighting at the pirate ship. Then remembering his manners asks if she is wounded, and she explains that this was not her doing - she returned to find this, and veteran that she is, is clearly shocked by the scale of the carnage... no mercy has been shown.

Naimer then wonders what happened to the pirate ship, were there any pirates left to return there? leaving the work Crew to clean up the mess the two friends carefully make their way there, to discover that the ship is empty, so the Naiomer remains to guard it while he sends the Argonian to fetch the skeleton crew that he has hired to salvage the Sages Ship, and he sends their prize to the nearest friendly port.

The loot from the ship is considerable, but they do not sell it as this will be a very useful asset in the long years to come. It's not every University that owns a pirate ship! Any the ship can usually be found at the port where they first berthed it. There the stands the proud new Captain in her splendid uniform. It is the Argonian Legionnaire who has taken honorable retirement from the Legion and hired on many of her old comrades to make room for the eager young bloods who wish to join the Legion. The ship now also serves as an auxhilliary defensive asset for the Redoran Portmaster in the event of Pirate attack - which brings in a tidy extra sum every year.

If sweet talked her attitude to the Nerev will temporarily improve and
she will be delighted to show them the unique sword she wears - the Pirate Captain had left it mounted on the wall of his cabin - and tell the tale. She remembers the Nerev as the one who was too busy to help and she makes clear that passage on the ship is only for University Personnel and their Honored Guests.

Once the conversation is finished she again regards the Nerev with suspicion.

The two travellers arrive at the site of the shipwreck to find it deserted, except for an Argonian Legio footsoldier sitting on the rocks above the ship.

If they talk to her the player may note that the social index is very low (this Legionnaire is clearly not in a mood to simply trust the unlikely pair) :

Argonian Legionnaire: Who are you? And what is your business here?

The player may try his/her social skills...

Nerev: Did you see what happened here?
If the player tries sweet-talking and is lucky or skilled the Argonian will explain that she has been following a group of pirates. They seized the scholars and the cargo. They would have looted the rest of the ship, but it shifted, and they decided that it would be too dangerous... so they took their prizes to their ship intending to return to see if anything could be done to loot or salvage the wreck later...... continued...[/I]

If the player tries bribery the Argonian assumes that they are pirates and attacks. Once the Argonian is disposed of....

I got to thinking about the boat ride and eventual shipwreackage....
some important things we need to consider.

The Pirate Coves are in the southeast section, in order for the ship to have to pass by it would have to leave from Ebonheart or other port town on the southern portion of Vv..

This would require the ship to pass by the Firemoth Region which is reletively close to the pirate coves. Their are many rocks in that area and with a little touch up we could make it very tricky to navigate and easy justify a wreakage.....

Also where is it they would port on the mainland.

My first thought was to have them sail to Ebbedin because their is no Imperial Presence in that town, of course the ship won't make it that far, but its a long journey to Silgrad from their and it might be more realistic, If we add a few NPC's and some pack Guar.... these people would have been waitng for the arrival of the ship to unload it and transport the stuff and scholars to Silgrad...

Instead of having our hero find the supplies needed in Silgrad or other place, we send him/her off to Ebbedin

Redoran Scholar: We had arranged for a crew to unload and transport our goods to Silgrad, it was rather costly and our budget is short. It would be benifical if you could meet with them in Ebbedin and arrange for them to meet us (tbd location)

Hero: No I won't
Scholar: I am sorry to hear that, well then I do not see any reason to continue this... unless you would consider paying for the needed items yourself, of course we can give you a small token of our gratitued.

Hero: Yes I will

Redoran Scholar: Very Good then, please find (someone's name) and give him/her this letter with new instructions, once you are done please return here so that we may continue....

Hero: Goes to Ebbedin...... finds (someones name) gives letter.

Someones Name: Wait, these terms are no longer acceptable, you've allready wasted our time and we require an additional 1000 septims.

Hero: I will pay
I will return with the money

Persuasion attempt: Bribe 10 gold: Reponse, "Do I look like a fool to you, do not insult me"
Bribe 100 Gold: Repsonse, "Don't insult my Intelligence (%pc name)"
Bribe 1000 Gold: Response, Thank you, I will take your money, but its a bribe, consider it a gift to me for wasting my time, if you want my crew then it will cost you 1000 septim.

From then on he/she will not talk, any of the others in that group will not either.

Guess i will have to do some map research = find out where ebbedin is for one thing If Ebbedin is a Redoran Port, or a small port that can be 'influenced positively,' then we might creatively implement your idea.

The basis might be that the scholars have been offered a 'good deal by the harbor authorities to berth their ship there, so later, when the player makes the decisions that result requiring a port to move the salvaged vessel/vessels to that would be difficult, but might be the natural option, unless: there is a small fishing village nearby that is prone to attack by the pirates - esp an Argonian one in TES4 that does not exist in TES3?

Just looking for ways to win friends later when the big pirate battles happen. and considering TES4 - you could check the TES4 maps and modders to see if there is an Argonian shoreline community in the region that was not there in TES3 that would be a big help. If there is then you might create a couple of fishing shacks and a tiny jetty. So that the Argonian Legionnaire then directs the salvaging crew to bring the ship/s there. That would explain how a tiny community grew to be bigger in TES4? All the wealth from the salvaging efforts, plus permanently berthing one of the ships there in agreement with the Legio and Argonian Community leaders to defend against pirates...

That might ultimately lure the legio away from the Imperials... after all they were refugees as the Dunmer were originally in Velothi Days... = if the Redorans and Indoril are fighting back against Imperial an dHlaalu Expansionism they need allies...

Ebbedin is on the eastern coast a bit north of the Legio

Looking at it , maybe its too far north

HOWEVER

DE had made a Redoran Fishing Village which for whatever reason didn't seem to work, I have recreated that village (see screeny)

It was originally planned to use this village in some of the Legio Argonis Quests (which we can still do)

I think If I move the land mass to a more prime location and touch up the Village a bit, it would make a perfect place for Secretive people to do secretive things...

• with a clear route to Silgrad City
  

Seems that the circle where you want to put the fishing village is in the middle of the water.

Is there somewhere further North on the mainland at the edge of Marshes? Where the Argonians, Redorans and Indoril could eventually meet comfortably?

Preferably near enough to a river that leads inland to Silgrad City that if the village expanded to town size it could be both on the river and the mainland at the edge of the Marshes?

Or could you create a small stream that could later become the basis of a canal from the sea to the inland waters that I remember were East of Silgrad City? Just looking for a location that with the right events might be a natural for expansion in TES4. the sort that a TES4 Develooper would find hard to resist...

Redoran is a possibility, but I am worried that the reason for the unfinished village was technical?

We can go with Redoran, this would adjust the overall situation of the Redoran more positively, adding a further location for Indoril refugees to settle in TES4. I just hate the idea that the little guys will go down without a good fight!

We would have to looking for other ways to involve the Argonians if it is still desireable to do so. That might come naturally with trade if yet another suggestion I made in the TES4 discussion Thread on plans for the Argonians is implimented

I do like the idea of 'turning' them. That would be very difficult for the Redoran lone due to the ingrained Redoran resistances, but the Indoril might be able to...

The current Redoran 'village' on the island - the people might have been killed by the pirates...

It is. But on the inside between the Mainland and Latrys Island, the original Fishing Village created by DE was an Island but it was further east, it was a technical problem which caused the village not to be in game.
That problem has been resolved and the Island and its inhabitants are all their.
As I indicated earlier, we had planned on using the village for the Legio/Pirate quests anyway so it would fit in nicely (I think) as a staging area for our group to start from.

Placing it thier (in that Circle) would put it north of the pirates and between the pirates and the Legio, the legio has several outposts in that area.

The Island would be close enough to the coast and their is a road which leads to Ashnor Valley and eventually the Forgotten Forest via Deepen Moor....

The River which runs into Silgrad has to go through Steadhelm, way too much Imperial Influence thier.... too many questions would be asked and the terrain would be hard to navigate if we tryed to avoid it, so we need to stay in the south section...

Further South of the Legio and Pirate Area is Veranis Hall, which isn't completely available yet. I've just finished melting the 2 mods together and still working on blending the landscape, its an inland town but has a small harbor nearby, its within striking distance of the pirates, But I do not beleive they would venture inland and the Legio fort is on the Northside of the Velothi Mountains and their is no access in that area.

The town is made up of mostly Nords, but it is controlled by House Redoran and has a Manor House, Barracks and Outpost for the Redoran guards and Official, I am sure this official pissed someone off, thats why he is their, If I were a Redoran Noble I would not want a town of Nords

But it would be a very nice location and easy to get to Silgrad as their is a road west of the town which leads into Silgrad

Modifying the current landscape to accomidate a stream or canal would be a massive undertaking, would not be my first choice or second or third

So
Option A: Move the Village

1) a place to stage for our journey to Silgrad
2) gets the pirates involved
3) gets the legio involved
4) avoids imperial interference
5) makes the journy longer and more difficult

Option B: Use Veranis Hall Harbor

1) a place to stage for our journey to Silgrad
2) may get pirates involved
3) legio has no access to area
4) closer to Silgrad easy journey
5) avoids imperial interference

Option C: ????
