I should have thought of it in the earlier post but it didn't come to me until after thinking about it for a while (and this is my field of expertise being in IT). Like I said in the last post, if anyone is using it, they could always set up a new user and just disable it for that profile and use that one for Oblivion and the other profile for when they want to use the port rather than having to enable and disable it multiple times. I guess it would depend on how comfortable someone is with enabling and disabling items in the device manager. Edit: I just added to the note on the UESP page that disabling the built-in infrared receiver on a laptop can fix the console function in case someone else runs into the same problem. |

Thanks for the replies.
I installed OBSE and the Console Ring but it does nothing when I put it on. The screen darkens a bit but the console still doesn't work. I also found and disabled the ehome(windows media center) stuff. - Windows Media Center Extender Service - Windows Media Center Receiver Service - Windows Media Center Scheduler Service - Windows Media Center Service Launcher That still had no effect on the ingame console. I guess I will wait for something to turn up. In anycase my only option is to pay special attention when modding in the CS to minimize any issue in reviews. |

It sounds more like you were disabling items in the system configuration startup or services console. I don't have my Vista machine anymore so I can't tell you how to get there properly. In XP its right click on "My Computer" then click on "Properties" select the "Hardware" tab and click on "Device Manager" and if there is an infrared device it should be in there someplace. Maybe Hegemege can post a screenshot of where he found his? |

You may know that I have Vista, so I can help you with disabling the infrared.
>Start >Control Panel >"Hardware & Sound"(or similar, I have finnish version so I'm not sure) >Device Control( You must be Admin to use this)>HID-devices(again, I'm not sure about the English Translation) > Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver. Doubleclick it and delete the device driver. That should do the thing.
Programming language knowledge: C#(+XNA), Python, C++, main interest is game programming with so far a few succesfull test projects on the first two platforms.

OK rather than going blind again I took a snap shot of my Device manager. Under Human iterface devices I have a bluetooth driver, HID device and a USB optical device driver. I am not sure which one if any would be an issue.

Well, its definitely not the mouse.
I would have to say that if you have an infrared device installed, it would probably be the "HID-compliant consumer control device" in that image. Try disabling it by right clicking on it and choosing disable and then see if the console in Oblivion works. |

I disabled the HID but it had no effect. I guess sooner or later I will come across the issue specific to me that someone else has solved. I did a search on this Asus series notebook with no result so I am pretty sure it is vista that is causing issue.

Sounds like a notebook issue.
Could you give me the notebook brand and model? That button might have some specific NB function mapped to it that interferes with the Ob engine. It would also help if you could take a photo of the whole keyboard and post it up here. EDIT: One more thing: and IR port is usually not displayed in the device manager as it is a very simple device that often uses bios firmware to function. The only way to switch it off might be a switch somewhere on the side or bottom of the notebook case or through the bios. Quote:Originally posted by Hrafnkel |

Hi Gyssar,
It is a Asus M51Ta notebook. Bios 204 (is upto date). I couldn't get the whole keyboard so I cornered it to the tilde section. |
