Frequently Asked Questions
The Elsweyr Confederacy
Project FAQ
What's the mod trying to accomplish? We are trying to add Elsweyr, the home province of the Khajiit, a feline race in The Elder Scrolls Series. The province borders Cyrodiil to the south. So what gameplay changes does that entail? Well a large new chunk of land, full of jungle and desert, and a lot of new adventures for the player. This includes quests, dungeons, items, and lore. How big is this chunk of land? We will be building to scale with Cyrodiil, meaning Elsweyr will be roughly about half the size of the landmass that ships with Oblivion. Why is this necessary? The landmass that came with Oblivion is pretty big already! Tamriel was a continent envisioned by the developers over a decade ago, and was realized once, but not to the detail that we have now. With the detail now, we can see each grain of sand, the glint in a cats eye, and the shimmer of the Topal Sea in the sunset. So not only are you getting tons of extra entertainment out of your game, but a piece of that world that was envisioned so long ago will be in place. In time, hopefully the other provinces will be similarly remade, and we can walk from the Padomaic Ocean to the Eltheric Ocean in one sitting. What happens when we hit the border of a province that isn't complete yet, or the border of your current progress on Elsweyr? Well, either we will place temporary natural barriers, like large cliffs, or we will model quite a ways outside that point and place an invisible wall, so you can't go there but you can see outside the border. How long is this going to take? We are going to release chunks, starting with the No-Quin-Al Desert, so that the user can see the mod as we progress. How long each segment will take I cannot tell you, as we will try to polish it as good as we can before releasing. What's with those cat guys? The Khajiit, or Khaj-Iit (Desert Walkers) in Ta-Agra, their native language, are a race of felines that live by the moons. According to lore, Azura started with some of the Bosmer, and removed their ability to morph back into Bosmer from their beast forms. A few thousand years later you have Khajiit. However, there is one caveat - the Lunar Lattice. After a Khajiit is born, the current phase of the moon determines which of twenty forms it will take. There are Khajiit that look almost like Elves, and get mistaken for them commonly. Some look like house cats, and some are gigantic tigers that you can ride. The important thing to remember is that all of them are still Khajiit, and all of them are sentient, and intelligent. Twenty forms?! Are they all going to be playable by me? We aren't sure yet, if that's even possible for some of them. Even if it is we aren't sure if we want to populate the playable race list with twenty Khajiit and one version of every other race. We'll just have to see what the editor is capable of first. What factions are there? There are the tribes of the North, and the tribes of the South, they are both vying for power, but the Mane keeps them neutral. You will find the typical guilds here, thief, fighter, and mage, as well. You will just be reporting to different people than you are used to. Each city has a King, and there are smugglers in the East working sugar into Cyrodiil. So overall there is a lot of stuff going on, and a lot of factions to work for. Is it true that this is where Moonsugar comes from? Quite true, you will see the process upon which the sugarcane is grown in the south, and harvested. The sugar is in everything - the meat, the cakes, the bread, it's everywhere. It's not considered "bad" as it is in the Empire, it's an accepted evil...sort of like alcohol in our world. Before you ask, we do plan on adding assorted...visual effects to the stronger doses of the sugar, be it in Skooma or extra potent Moonsugar. If you have a question that has not been answered here, please PM me with your suggestion and I will add it as soon as possible. |
