Heightmap CURRENT
There are a few things we must diuss befor I can make our landmass. How large will elsweyr be? If we take its actual ratio, it is quite small. I am thinking the same number of cells as cyrodil(I need someone to tell me how many that is) and how gradualy we want the climate to change, and where.

If I recall correctly, Cyrodiil's landmass consists of 14 heightmap grids, each one I think is 64x64 cells (don't remember the exact number). Remember a lot of that was border land though.
If you were to do Elsweyr to scale you would make it roughly half the size of Cyrodiil, but I can understand your reasons for wanting it larger. I'm just lining up some perspective for you. From a lore perspective, Elsweyr is about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of Cyrodiil, depending on which map you're looking at. |

Yes, but I think that in order to encompass both rolling desert sand, deep rainforst, and border regions, we need it large.

Are we doing the 400% scale mentioned in this topic? I'd like that.
Exterior cell size in Oblivion vs. Morrowind If we make a huge lore-scale or bigger landmass, that'd be awesome. Especially travelling across the desert, and jungle. |

Cyrodiil, WITH border regions, is 4x4 (16) quads. Cyrodiil WITHOUT border regions is 12 quads. Each quad is 31x31 cells. Oblivion's cells are 1/4 the size of Morrowind's cells.

In heightmap terms a quad is one full heightmap segment?

Throwing in my two cents.
Well, I say make it larger than Cyrodil's scale... But be careful not to overdo it. |

well, I am planning 16 quads for elsweyr. and a border egion wih valenwood that is two quads wide and however many tall, you think I should add more? I was thinking about doing that..

Yikes!
I think that is way too big. I say about Cyrodil's size (not including border regions), no more. Do you always use fast-travel in Oblivion? I walk sometimes... And 12 is big enough... |

I'm not a modder, just a fan of these projects, so take my opinion for what it's worth.
I like what the Silgrad and Skyrim teams are doing in terms of increasing scale. I would like to see this project follow a similar theme rather than conform to Cyrodil's in game scale. If you feel your team can pull off 16 quads, I say go for it. The only way you could overdo it, would be taking on more than your team could handle. |
