Houses in ST: Oblivion - Sylvan Houses
I found these four house models (which also comes with interiors) and I fell in love with them So peaceful, rustic and deep fantasy, not to mention I think they look absolutely great. The textures are all his, too. They are from the modders resource "Sylvan Houses v1.1" by Olaf 'Soulshade' Corduwener. According to the readme they can be used by anyone as long as he's credited. The original download is attached to this post.
As the readme says, he created them for a project that never got finished and so they are missing certain things. They don't have doors for example, but as the interiors are always just one room I don't think they'd need holes for animated doors. Assuming Oblivion uses load doors, otherwise I'm sure it can be fixed. So we could maybe use normal doors that come with Oblivion. While there's only four models that can't be readily customized I figured that window models could be added in the CS to add variety, and so I don't think it would feel repetetive to have twenty or so of these buildings in the mod. Especially if they're spread out. Question is... in what situation do you guys think can we use them? Would they perhaps be appropriate for Deepen Meadows? Exterior screenshots: Interior screenshots:

Wow, I understand why you are so fond of these models. This is excellent work.
The problem I see with implementing it derives from its name, Sylvan houses, which leads me to the assumption that they are built - and inhabitated - by people who are living in the trees. This would make Wood Elves the first logical choice IMHO. So if we're using these models, we need to answer the question "Who's using them?" I'd hate to leave them out, but I don't want to use them just because they look good unless we have a solid and reasonable explanation. - But I don't think it will be too difficult to draw something out of our sleeves. Greetings Quentin
That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs, but what a ship is - what the Black Pearl really is - is freedom.

They struck me as somewhat of a cross between a log cabin and that elven city in the first Lord of the Rings-movie. I didn't get the sense that they were meant to be tree-houses, but I understand that was the theme the modeller was going for. They definetely look elven. My first hunch is to use them for a small settlement of wild dark elves, similar to the Ashlanders of Vvardenfell in that respect, but not sharing many other characteristics with them.
But I'd scratch that idea in a heartbeat if we can somehow weave them into the things we need to tick off for Oblivion. On one hand I think they look suitable for a non-Dunmer rustic farm setting, but on the other hand we hardly need houses for Imperial farms. But if we can't come up with something to use them for, I wouldn't mind seeing them used to add diversity to our Imperial farms. Might just be me, but I find less-than-perfect stuff I've never seen before more exciting to play than perfect things I've seen a thousand times. Another idea could be to offer them as a future claim, and award exclusive use of them to the modder who can come up with the best explanation? Because I don't think we need to use them from day one unless we can weave them into Silgrad Tower/Reich Parkeep. Anyone else reading this thread - let your creative juices flow freely and make a post =)
