Yeah, don't let those little turds get you down. Dingleberries stick for a while, but eventually they fall off.

Ok, folks. Here are the new pictures of the tweaked tree:
http://img186.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=ba...anches.jpg I show versions both with and without leaves. *There is a closeup shot of the more bare upper branches (the pic of the branch tip that has the moss to wood transition texture). *There is a closeup of the yellower colored moss on the upperside of the branches. The higher up the branches, the more dominant the yellow is. I did this with vertex color painting, instead of making a new texture, cause it'll save on file size. Plus this way, the same texture on the underside of the branches can stay green, by just not vertex coloring them yellow. *Tweaks made: *Added yellow to upper branch parts *Added less mossy texture to upperside of branches as well *Deleted some blocks of the drooping moss that runs the length of the branches *Used less moss coverage further up the tree overall, by using the "moss to wood" transition texture on the highest branches' ends. *Stained the top parts of the Spanish Moss green, but it gradually goes to white again at bottom of these dropping moss types. *I also had been using the "moss to wood" transition texture on the trunk of the tree the whole time, but I deleted the drooping moss I had placed on the trunk from the picture view, so you can see that transition texture that was under it. So I took into account all the tweaks wanted in previous posts, except for adding different hues within the same mossy texture (because instead, I added the yellow highlights with vertex painting). So now what do you think? Koniption EDIT: I don't know why, but some of the pics duplicated themselves on ImageShack. But they are all there, for the most part. So you will still get the overall picture.

Damn, it looks fine close-up! :bananarock:
That mossy texture is really working and the bare bits really do help a heck of a lot. For other tree versions, I would have some that are more wide and feature a few more hanging moss parts lower down.

Which type of "hanging moss" are you referring to for the lower down parts - Spanish moss (white at the end) or the puke-green moss that runs the length of the branches? Koniption

Oh, yes, those close-ups look great. You know your stuff. The only thing that doesn't look quite right is how sharp the edges of the branches are, but I guess that's a mesh thing and not texture.

Quote:Originally posted by Xaeaix I know they are angular, but they need to stay that way. In order to make the angles smoother, I'd need to add more polygons to the branches, and that would impact file size and performance ingame. So it's a sacrifice that is necessary. Besides, I've seen plenty of old mossy tree pictures where the branches' turns and curves are quite angular, especially on the older trees. I'm happy you approve of the pics, too. Koniption

Quote:Originally posted by Koniption I was referring to the Spanish moss. For the overhang, I can't believe how hard it is to find a picture of what I'm referring to X( but it's basically a halfway house between the first two pics here. The idea is for it to be more of a straight trunk (I would go for the bent trunk of pic1 but I'm guessing it's impossible to do that with, at least with a speed tree. Then the overhang spreads out on a virtually straight horizontal from the top and stretches a good way out in one or more directions.

I once saw a model of the tree on the first pic!
