I think it would be best to have a worm title between maggoth and summoner. I don't really like the deathlord title for some reason. He has been referred to as god of the worms on several occasions. There was some discussion on wether he was a god on the lore boards. But daggerfall says he joins the daedra gods in the skies.

Quote:Summoner Summoner refer to someone using Summoning(of Daedra)/Conjuration.. DeathLord sounds was to much Warcraft(or something like that) too me.. Duke doesn't sound Mage like.. and something tells me we won't find a perfect set of ranks. King of Worms: "The Jills of Aka-tosh have mended this numidition. Mannimarco remains as he was: the high priest of maggots." - Sphinxmoth Inquiry Tree Please get those titles of Mannimarco right. God of Worms and King of Worms. And two Mannimarco's dead? I've only heard of one of them dead.. the weak bloke from OB.

Another one slipped when he tried to get out of bath
And to be honest, I too found summoner to be not necromancer. Maybe just necromancer instead of that. The lich thing I suggested maybe would not be forced to be done, but will become optional when you are necromancer? so, titles that I like and are lore correct right now are: -maggoth -worm -necromancer Others that I came up with: -graverobber(righ before necromancer) -resurrector(rafter necromancer) -priest of the maggoths -lord of the worms -underking of the worms( not sure about this) |

It could be made that features are more important than ranks. ie you do a task for a Necromancer and he teach you something. (Useable)
And then keep it at some few ranks.

Yes, features should be more important. The option to become a lich would be a very nice feature IMO. And then, of course, some necromancy spells.
A spell that turns a corpse in a zombie makes sense, but maybe spells that allow you to turn corpses into healt or explode corpses aswell? |

Ok so we have
Maggot Worm Grave Robber Necromancer and a 5th un-decided or do we want 6 (in which case we can add Resurrector I like Attributes shouldn't be any different from other mage sorts, I think ********************************************** Also, do you all think we can somehow tie this in with the Temple of Arkay quests : Temple of Arkay, Soluthis [open for discussion] ********************************************** btw, Necromancer = Summoner, 1 in the same (defined) Necromancers practice the art of divination, which is to summon spirits (good or bad) Enjoy Bob

I don't think that is true, at leats not in elder scrolls.
Necromancy is resurrecting the dead. Forcing a body to live again or forcing a dead spirit to return to the mortal plane. The mages guild is strongly against this. Summoning is bringing a daedra/creature that still is alive towards you. The mages guild has no problem with this. then there are dark elfs who can let the spirits of their ancestors aid them in combat. The spirits want to help and ere not forced, so mages guild is perfectly ok with this aswell. I believe it is something like that. |

Quote:Originally posted by kingevil Yes, that is what it is. But in order to get the body animated the spirit must be summoned. Summoning is not limited to the necromancer and it is only part of what they do, in most cases mages who summon a creature are limited, we see this as summoned creatures after a time vanish (return to wherever they were) the summoning is a connection of the summoners mind to the mind of the summoned, it calls the summoned forth and the summoner controls it for a limited time (depending on the summoners ability) Necromancy does the exact same thing, in this case however the Summoner(necromancer) has practiced this art and is extremely skilled (more so than others) and can usually control the spirit for longer periods of time. The neromancer forces the summoned spirit into the corpse, this corpse must be prepared to accept and hold this spirit and it always requires a scarifice. Once in the corpse it is bound (this is due to the preperation) This is primarily why necromancy is shunned, it requires the killing of innocent people, typically the one killed is the one summoned and since they are probably pretty pissed that their being called back from the dead they are usually very violent and thats why the corpse must be so well prepared and the summoner(necromancer) well trained. Regardless of the definition or the rank stucture, it is good to get some talk going on what necromancy really is and what they do...it could give us lots of great ideas on how we would like quests to develope Enjoy Bob

not the spirit, just a spirit. And for most part summoning a spirit(of a dead person) is impossible due to Arkay's Blessing(or was it law can't remember)
A easier way for most Necromancers is either trapping a soul(: using (black) soul gem) or a soul snare(: any Necromancer can't do this, catches every soul within a area who isn't protected fast, its unknown how they are contained) I wouldn't mind the player getting some place to do Necromancy. Some cave made into his(or several peoples) hidden Necromancer base. With features and (quest related) upgrades as the player learns more.
