Possible Recruits

Hi all,

I thought I would start a 'possible recruits' thread so that people from whichever department can consider approaching their fellows and attracting them to work for the project.

To kick off, I thought I would mention one whose work has stood out considerably of late - zertual, the modder of 'Divine Beast Kylin' http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18446 .

Although the mighty ModaxJago has done some fantastic work on the Kwama for us, he is nonetheless otherwise occupied now with his new job and has less time to spend on the project.

I'm sure zertual could rustle up some more nightmarish creatures for the bestiary which could receive a full lore and quest treatment if we work them into the framework of ST.

Eager downloaders will recognise the name of Scruggs as being most renowned for his 'Thieves Arsenal' mod. He is someone I personally appreciate, being a big fan of the 'Thief' series.

However, I recently came across some other mods, possibly of particular interest to ST. The first three include the 'Morrowind Inhabitants' series whilst the last one is the first taster of what will eventually become a 'farming' mod, apparently. It features the inclusion of fruit trees...quite cool... :goodjob:...:

In the meantime, I wondered how I might get my Fort Ruins completed recently and thought of the following possible solution. There are presently eight Fort mods on TesNexus available to download that look like they might be very good. These include:

Fort Charrish
Fort Cooper
Fort Falkenshire
Fort Ferrion
Fort Krakatus
Fort Magius
Fort Tempest
Fort Valdis

It may be possible to approach the modders of the Forts and request the layout of the Fort for inclusion within Steadhelm (credit, of course, being duly given). I could then set about adding some more ST-specific items and enemies as required.

Many of these have traps included and quite a few are very highly rated, and whilst they remain original pieces of work, I would like to guess that the overall DL rate of a mere Fort mod is not very high and I could therefore sell the idea of increased exposure of their work as a definite plus.

Some of these, I think, will have missions attached, some will simply not want their precious forts altering, whilst others may look fondly on the possibility of their Fort receiving a second breath of life in this way. What do you think of this idea?

I should have replied earlier but I didn't know how to phrase myself right then and then it slipped my mind.

Over time I've compiled a massive amount of information for interested modellers and also engaged myself in both PR and recruitment for that purpose. I don't know how well it has worked out overall, but I remember the last time I did it and I spent twenty hours compiling information, material and resources - text, images, videos, files - and then set about recruiting modellers from non-game related places. The net result was hours of emailing with bonkers who knew squat about game modelling or used obscure, worthless modelling programs or mistook my recruitment for a job ad. Plus one potted plant model. Well, at least it was a very nice potted plant.

But anyway the essence of my stance is that when it comes to models and textures our requirements are so specific and advanced that it disqualifies most modellers from being able to contribute meaningfully. We don't just need a plant for instance we need a plant that has the facecount of a game model, a visual quality on par with the work we've already done, and fit a very specific purpose as a replacement for a model from the old Morrowind game. It's hard to find modellers who can pull off things like that. But the essence of my stance is that I (and others) have already done what we can do to recruit new modellers and that it would be a near-futile effort to attempt to recruit a modeller that can take on one of the big open modelling jobs. I'm not saying I'm against trying, just that my enthusiasm for doing it just isn't there because of my experiences. As long as we have the information on what we need available here then in my opinion our best bet on solving the open jobs is to focus on general PR for our mod and then modellers whom are interested in working with us will find their way here through that PR.
