Post-Slavery Vvardenfell
Here is a thread to discuss the changes that abolition has made to Vvardenfell, and here are my initial thoughts on the matter:
It has been said that there was violence when the slaves were freed, since I have heard no further elaboration, let us assume that it was stuff between guards and certain Hlallu, Dres, Indoril, and Telvani. These open skirmishes are probably in the past by now as some years have passed. On Vvardenfell, slaves were found in 1) markets being sold, 2) the Dren Plantation working the farm, and 3) Telvani territory working as experimentals and domestic servants. 1) The markets have obviously been shut down, and with them probably all slave hunters are no longer employed. Perhaps we have one working underground, but this is not a huge industry anymore. 2) The Dren Plantation would have been forced to free it's workers, but since it needs the labor, it has probably shifted in a Southern fashion to a system of "paid slavery." That means that ex-slaves live in dirt-cheap accomodations on or around the plantation and still work the land for highly racist employers. 3) Open Telvani slavery has ended, and the Council has probably tried hard to enforce compliance to abolition in order to secure the Betmeri League's alleigance. However, it makes sense that there would be rogue Telvani lords who still have hidden slaves for experimentation, and many probably legally employ their ex-slaves as domestic servants. So how does this practically affect our mod? 1) Racism should be a huge issue, especially near the Dren Plantation and other strong pro-slavery areas. Perhaps there are townsfolk in Suran who act as a sort of KKK, targetting slaves or friends of slaves who they deem "too uppity." On the Plantation itself, there should be the feeling that these people are still trapped in a legalized version of the past atrocities, perhaps worse because now there is no responsibility of ownership to hold back abuses. The Betmeri League should be upset by this; perhaps they intend to take matters into their own hands. Likewise, perhaps there are misc quests around to help relieve the suffering of the ex-slaves or to take out the racist lynchers in the area at the cost of certain people's respect. 2) The Telvani need to please their Betmeri allies as tensions mount with the other Houses. In order to do this, it makes sense that they would send representatives to make certain that abuses were curtailed. Perhaps the PC must go confront a rogue lord about his continued holding of slaves in the pits beneath his tower? Investigation, traps, etc. leading to political maneuverings. It could be good. So those are my first thoughts on these matters. Now get involved; let's sort this out. |

Vrenir very good idea, man, seriously I tell you- you are good...
the KKK idea is real good.... and I bet maybe these "KKK" are led by Cammona Tong or their affiliates... and maybe they have connections in guard forces so that way the KKK don't get into huge trouble but don't make it seem too historical.... we need to make it unique while based on realistic stuff the Telvanni... Aryon and Divayth already got rid of their slaves... Uvirith probably did in support of Aryon... Dratha is kinda crazy but she might comply.... if a woman character asked her forcefully or something.... and then Neloth, he is haughty and proud and might not comply easily might use a lot of persuasion... Therena, she is crazy but she might say yes.... she isn't against Aryon's demands... Baladas is for Aryon.... so it leaves only Neloth and Dratha... Gothren would if he were alive :brew: |

Thanks. I was thinking that at least in Suran the Cammona Tong would be encouraging the racist stuff, but that it would mostly be side stuff as the CT already has enough to do. Basically, they'll set the tone of the activists, but it will be people like ex-slave hunters who perpetrate acts of violence with perhaps a single major CT assisted attack on someone.
I was also thinking that perhaps the House of Earthly Delights could be a hot button place with this issue, being a tollerant and even-handed establishment. The CT and others think that they are a disgrace, not because of their dancing and prostitution but because of their inclusiveness. (It'd be an interesting twist.) There could be some sort of intimidation of Dresele going on or something. |

nice, there was a woman in st. delyn that i remeber reading the script, she was like a crazy fantatic anti-slavery volunteer. There is some type of quest where you give her a ring and she uses it to free a bunch of slaves. Possibly have hear be the leader of the abolishonists and have LOTS of people especially as you where saying angry at her.
There could be a decent size quest where you are on a faction or guild who go around and make sure that people are following the rules

Hey guys i know i havent been around in awhile. But slavery isnt all gone. This is the place you would aleast expect Slavery. I found Lord Druegs Estate it had 3 buildings and a mine. His house and guess what the other 2 were called? slave houses. I couldnt get into the mine because u need the key and you cant pick it. I guess all the slaves are making the mine in progress for Lord Drueg "Dummer" said the mine is still in progress. So maybe we could have some rogue hlaalu, telvanni, dres plantations, isles, farms with slaves. but this time they have them working very hard. Maybe hid them underground built them some place under the ground so no can rat them out. Or maybe they stepped up security?
Some say im here, Others say im there, but really... I am every where
Beware I am Shadow I am the darkness in the corner waiting for you to take your mind off things for a moment then I strike without hesitation and leave no trail |

I'd say that the slave trade and slavery itself has been driven underground, so to speak. Its obvious that it would still be around, but in a much more precarious manner.
