The New and Improved Redoran Progress Thread
There. A more aptly named and tidy place for us to further develop our lovely redoran architecture! I was going to wait until I had the medium sized walls done before I made this, but ive had alot of RL stuff going on (graduation and whatnot) so I only just started it and figured I should get this up before Zarf started wondering where to post progress, so here it is!
I can keep this post updated with all of the buildings that are fully finished. Here are the first two... Door: 6.4 KB Barracks: 6.9 MB Hole: 8.7 MB Hut1: 5.0 MB Manor: 7.9 MB Porch: 1.3 MB black[/hr] Sorry for hijacking your post, I just wanted to squeeze this index into the initial post since it can be handy to have easily accessible. /RW 01: = Barracks [finished] 02: = Guild [placeholder in use] 03: = Hole (caterpillar-like) [finished] 04: = Manor [almost finished] 05: = Home, Oval [placeholder in use] 06: = Home, Round [placeholder in use] 07: = Tavern [placeholder in use] 08: = Guardtower [finished, not related to this collection] 09: = Council Club [finished, not related to this collection] |

Oh, you graduated recently? Congrats!
I must have missed that the Hole building was finalized, so rebooting the thread was a really good idea. Thanks for the link, I'm downloading it now and will update the Alpha promptly. Edit: Downloaded and added, and then I went ahead and brought in the awning you modelled. It fits snugly and perfectly over the entrance, nice job! Mapping it was hard though. The mapping should preferrably be added before, for instance, bending a cylinder in order to look perfect. For now I guess the crude mapping I set up 'after the fact' can work, but it won't look good until a map can be applied before the cylinders are bent and deformed. Max really can import map setups from obj files, as it works every time I bring in an obj I've extracted from a TES3 nif. I don't know what caused the problems earlier but perhaps you could try that again on this awning sometime later on? Oh, and maybe after the interior room models are finished I can convince you to give Max a second chance? Caligula/Zarf, I need the door- and porch model too. When it's convenient for you guys.

The door? I'm not so great with wooden plank textures... though I think I know a way around that. By "porch" you mean the stair model, right? Or I'm missing something.
I'm almost done with the Redoran House. Mapping the ring around the bottom is proving FAR more difficult than I thought, and I'm not sure how I overcae this with the Barracks and the Hole. I'll think of something, though. I think the hut that I have will be easy.

Together I imagine those two buildings would account for like 85% of the total buildings modded into the city, just because they're the default buildings to use for homes, and homes are far more numerous than any other type of location.

I'll get to work on the hut soon. I just finished the texturing of the house, and will very soon release it to the public, along with desktops. :-D
This desktop will be different. It won't show he building from the front and back, just the front. Not enough room for the back.

Whoops. I did mean the house. It's done, and here's the download: House - 7.6 MB This includes all three texture maps, normal maps, and the mesh itself. 1600x1200 1200x800

Sigh... not even a "Hey, that looks good, Zarf. Except..."
I looked in the back and they look crisp to me. Also, I've found there is a series of smoothing errors and texture errors on the doorway. RW, don't use this unless you REALLY want to. I'll upload a fixed one later tonight.

I think it looks really good. I think you should improve and make the back texture lighter, but other than that its great
