Irregular pattern, you mean like more random? Not so straight streets and houses so symmetrical rows?
I think you may be right in case its on the swamp. With the cities non-swamp areas i think its different case though. And even there could be more and less advanced city types even on marsh. If it was advanced marsh city build on stilts then patterns could be quite symmetric and clear i think, when if it was more like a "tribal town/village" it would be different. But ill look into what you suggested Raggidman, just when i got the time and will =) |

raggidman is right. Argonia is not a pretty place, we don't want it to be. It will be interesting and different, not pretty and organized. Leave that to the other mods.

Nice to find agreement, so I'll push my luck and suggest that you will find it easier to come up with 'the feel' if you try doing concept art of individual buildings - as in a formal drawing or painting, one for the imperial style, one for the Argonian style, and a hybrid too if possible, thinking carefully about the available materials and imported materials that they might use as well.
Consider the way the Telvanni (magii) grew their houses, while the Redorans (military) built in rock and stone - then consider the Hlaalu who combine Wood and Stone into something far more sybaritic... What is Argonain armor like, what is their attitude to objects? Take a look at the interior of hte Argonian Mission in Ebonheart to see how they combine interior styles in Morrowind with their own taste and the dress of their people in there for example...?
Because loyalty is not to be spoken of and honour is to be endured. Whilst courage is to be survived. These virtues belong to silence.

Theres an argonian mission in TESIII: Morrowind?
Unfortunately i dont own it. Ive had it some years ago but not anymore. If anyone has it and has savegame so you can get to Ebonheart mission easily please take screenshots and post to the forum? That could ease things up to see actual Bethesda vision of things. Im sure one mission has no enoughtmaterial to cover whole scenery of all sides of Argonia but maybe some direction? Problem is also that no TES game really presents Black Marshes. TESI engine is way too limited, never yet have i ran into anything that had different and interesting city structure, stilts or so on? Too much rock in there etc im sure its cause of the engine. Daggerfall never touched BM'hes either. I guess that would give us some freedom of planning cause the place never has been presented fully? But we need to find the agreement though and plan on some things or the place wont have a face.. or feel of its own. These are not easy things to create up so it satisfies everyone. So we need to discuss about the things. I think first we should decide what landtypes are in BlackMarshes and how much abouts each. My idea is the ones that are not in marsh can be more advanced build, like i made concepts at the start for Soulrest (coastal city, different enviroment), Blackrose (its in the middle of land, i based my vision to the TESI map so it could have dry land around, came up that it could be on hill, and having mines working on slavery at the hill too so it could have stonewalls build and quite advanced look afterall, its supposed to be a big one!). Im not certain but i think both of those are major cities in BMshes and could have little more wealth than non-major.. now if anyone has problem with that, post to the city topics? Considering Rockgrove this was one i was thinking to base to the marsh.. and im not certain myself how it came out, i wasnt so happy than with Soulrest and Blackrose. Im ready to rethink the concept but i need some help here too I was thinking about doing concept for individual buildings first too but then i went this way. Concepts about non-marsh cities are easier, cause image about real argonian marsh cities are not so clear for me... So i suppose its good idea to try some building concepts. Any help and ideas for those will be welcomed, i may just try sketches and see what i come up with too. |

I really like this concept, it really brings out the marsh in me. I think I could make this enviroment with a ton of depth, but it should be reserved for one of the bigger towns. Not smaller, just diffrent town. This is not as much of a main town as Stormhold or Blackrose, but it's bigger in the concept then the Stormhold ingame or inconcept.

maybe Rockgrove has a small quarry or rock formation near it? maybe that's where it got it's name... a long line of boulders?

I have a wounderfull concept for that, but I need to finish it. I am really proud of this concept, though it is very unique and will require the most open mind to be accepted. I'll be posting it all over when I finish.

I really like that concept, perhaps we could you use a bit of it, or all of it, elsewhere?
