I'd like to ask if someone would be willing to help me test out an experiment. If it pans out, many of the models in our mod will look a lot better.
The jist of the experiment is that I've been getting signs that it's possible to use opacity maps with the Civ4 exporter - but to use them, the opacity maps have to be put in the alpha channel of the color texture. I don't have any idea how to go about doing that, so I thought I could supply the texture sets below and ask if someone could add them for me, and save them as DDS. http://files.filefront.com/willow_flower...einfo.html TIA.

Argh, no matter what I do I can't get it to work
See the leaves and things-in-the-center-of-the-petals? The black parts should turn up invisible, but it won't work for me. Isn't there someone here who's used to working with alpha channels who could show me the ropes, or put the opacity in the color textures I linked above? Pleeease?

I aaaargh in sympathy - all I can do is suggest that the central structure might be called the 'trumpet.'
If there is a 'pole' sticking out covered in pollen (seed) that is called the 'stamen.' You have the words now at least...

Aah, thanks! I've been wondering what those things that bees collect pollen from in the center of the petal clusters were called in English. Stamen. Never heard of that before.

razor, the way i do the transparency is i save the texture in .png with the parts that i want transparent... well... transparent. Then i use a .dds converter on the .pngs' and the transparency carries over, completly skipping the entirety of the alpha channel problem
(i used it this way because i was having problems making the .dds icons have transparent backgrounds, they would always come out with tan backgrounds until i used this) hope that helps
