They were elite, but thats not where they got thier name |

Some info from my uncle (He is like the Greekest person in the whole world)
He saw the trailer and in the movie it makes the Persians look like total neanderthals, thats not the case. Back then Ancient Greece and Persia were the most advanced Empires, and in the movie some are mutated barbarians!!! It may be incorrect, but i think its gonna be fantastic,i saw the trailer and i adore the bit where the Spartan cuts all the arrows off his shield. Awesome!!!! |

History Channel had a thing on about this. It was interesting.
Spartans were trimmed to be warriors from the first day. any imperfect babies were left on a hillside to die. The "little league" for them was flogging competitions ouch . They only got gravestones if they died in battle (or childbirth for women). they had to kill a slave (in a stealth op) as a right of passage. it was really harsh. Its no wonder they were so kickass. they only sent 300 of the thousand of spartans in their population, which kinda shows you what they thought of the war, even factoring in the fact that they had terrain advantages. Quote:Originally posted by A_flyboy Yes what most of Flyboy said is correct, mutated or sick or "weak" babies were killed or abandoned, the Spartans were extremely healthy. But thinking of it,if i was born back then i would've wanted to be sick so i could be killed, the life the healthy Spartans lived was extremely harsh, boys at 7 were put into dormetries where they were starved and trained and disciplined, the older boys would even beat the younger boys up if a Spartan Elite said so. A story proving how powerfull and how much willpower a young spartan boy held i'll tell you,its one of the favourites i've heard. Spartan boys would hunt and eating dead animal corpses etc was forbidden,so one boy killed a fox and wanted to eat it (RAW BTW) but he saw Spartan Guards coming and he held it under his shirt, the spartans approached the boy and talked to him.The fox was eating through his stomach but the boy didnt say one thing,he stood there silent and listening,he didnt show one sign of distress and later ate the fox. |

I heard the kid actually died...
I also got another short story for you about Spartans: "An old man wandering around the Olympic Games looking for a seat was jeered at by the crowd until he reached the seats of the Spartans, whereupon every Spartan younger than him, and some that were older, stood up and offered him their seat. The crowd applauded and the old man turned to them with a sigh, saying "All Greeks know what is right, but only the Spartans do it."
