Things not making sense.
When looking at the Maar Gan pictures, I noticed that they do not have the Morrowind feel to it, no offense to Dave, since I figured it is not because of the placements of the buildings, nor the meshes nor the self-made textures, but something different.
The shots of Maar Gan look like any time an airplane can fly over it, and kids running free playing with their favorite toys, riding their bikes. This is caused by three things: - The grass - The lighting - The sky So what can we do about it? - The grass: retexture the grass meshes into something browner, darker. and replace the green ground texture with darker green mixed with dirt. - The lighting, change it from gray to brownish, put in a bit more fog - the sky: We need new sky textures, they need to be less blue and more awkward clouds. Some brown ones as well for the strange weather conditions. And why doesn't it make sense like the way it is now? The buildings that are built by redoran consist of a special type of stone/clay. This kind of materials were harvested around the town, therefore, there is no grass, grass does not grow on such ground. On top of that, when you have such an ambient like this, the appearence will look browner overall, since the light which is reflected by the ground has a different colour. These three points will make Vvar more than Cyrodiil.

Actually, funny you should say that, I was thinking of requesting a few grass textures with a grey/dull brown look to them. I too agree, it feels nothing like the original, not because of the models or anything, the textures could be better, but I think it's more of the lack of resources availible as of yet...
I personally dislike the textures of the Redoran pieces, I think they look too orange, whereas the Morrowind versions were more of a yellowish/dull brown bone look, the ones we have (with all due respect to the texturers) don't really have the same impact. If we had everything we needed from Morrowind modelled and working, like armours and effects and various models, I bet the feel would return... I have new screenshots of the Maar Gan with the 2x heighmap I've been working on... I'll upload some in a sec. It still doesn't feel like Maar Gan yet, but I think it's getting there, the grey ground textures do make a slightly better look than the grassy version I showed earlier (which, remember, was in a fake worldspace for testing)...also, the new distant LOD landscape meshes make a considerable difference. The original version I made just as a rough idea as to what buildings would go where, which is why it looks quite different; I did try to base it on Maar Gan in Morrowind though. Thanks for your opinions and ideas, they're appreciated, and I'll take them into consideration. |

The ambient is easily changed:
go to weather, make a few new weather conditions with the lightingf setting set to a more brownish color, then go to the climate editor and put these weather conditions in there. the only problem is that you have to add a sky .dds file which I can't do just because I can't

I'll mess around with it later, see what I can come up with...
Here are a few early shots: http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot209.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot208.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot207.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot206.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot205.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot200.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot199.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot198.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t64/R...hot210.jpg |

Of course you could, but they're already done, sorry...
The houses are anyway, there's a few buildings I still haven't done you might be able to help with, like the Andus Tradehouse, or the Morvayn Clanhouse... |

Hmm... how far are we from Alpha? If we already are working on large towns like this... by the way, do you know anything about Telvanni and Hlaalu progress, Dave?
Edit- I just wanted to help, and I'M SURE there are going to be more chances. By the way, whats with the snowy mountains in the background? I assume it has something to do with LOD?

Well, there's a Hlaalu exterior tileset that's useable, so I suppose Balmora and Gnisis could be made. Thing is though, there's no interior Hlaalu set yet, so it would be exterior only. Which is a shame.
As far as I'm aware, there's no Telvanni pieces in the Silgrad Tower master yet, I'm not even sure if the models have been made yet. So, that's a no-go for now... I could be wrong though. Quote:Edit- I just wanted to help, and I'M SURE there are going to be more chances. By the way, whats with the snowy mountains in the background?Don't worry there's room for everyone, we're glad you're helping, we need all the help we can get. About the mountains- I imagine it's the LOD textures, they might look 'snowy', but that's because of the texture quality and textures, which is low in those screenshots. Good news though, Lightwave released higher resolution textures for the LOD landscape, so in the next update, they'll be better quality, and more recognisable. They're actually grey in colour, they are ash like in the ashlands. I can see why you think it's snow though... |

Hmm.. I'm wondering what sort of FPS we are going to have here, because in Open Citires, my FPS sucked in the towns, do we expect the same here? (Well there well be less flora, as it is Vvardenfell not Cyrodill)
